La novela femenina española y el canon

The article examines the formation of the concept femenine novel in post-Francoist Spanish narrativefrom the double perspective of Spanish and U. S. Hispanism. The study argues that the femenine novel constitutes a "historical genre" defined by particular circumstances that come together towards the end of the seventies (among others, the establishment of feminist theory, the arrival of democracy in Spain or the normalization in the status of women). We are thus dealing neither with a category that can be applied to any period, nor with a specifically femenine discourse expressed in a set of features (autobiography, metafiction, etc.). In the last section the author focuses on the implications that this acceptance of the femenine novel as critical category may have in the future configuration of 20th-century Spanish literary hislory.El artículo examina la formación del concepto de novela femenina en la narrativa española posterior a la muerte de Franco, desde la doble perspectiva del hispanismo peninsular y del norteamericano. El punto central del estudio es que la novela femenina constituye un "género histórico" delimitado por circunstancias particulares quc convergen hacia finales de los setenta (entre otras, el asentamiento de la teoría feminista, la llegada a España de la democracia o la normalización de la situación de la mujer). No se trata por tanto de una modalidad presente en todas las épocas, ni tampoco de un discurso que se exprese en rasgos propiamente femeninos (autobiografía, metaficción, etc.). En la parte final se analizan las implicaciones que la canonización de la novela femenina podrá tener en la configuración tic la futura historia literaria del siglo XX

The restoration of absolutism (1814-1820) in 19th-century liberal historiography and in Benito Pérez Galdós’s Episodios Nacionales

En este artículo se analiza la imagen que la historiografía liberal decimonónica construye acerca de la restauración del absolutismo fernandino (1814-1820), comparándola con la que ofrece Benito Pérez Galdós en los episodios Memorias de un cortesano de 1815 y La segunda casaca. Los dos componentes de esta imagen son la figura de Fernando VII y la crisis política que conduce a la quiebra del régimen en 1820. En el apartado de las conclusiones, se señalan las semejanzas y las diferencias entre la visión de los historiadores y la de Galdós.The article analyzes how the image of the 1814-1820 absolutist restoration in Spain is constructed in both 19th-century liberal historiography and Benito Pérez Galdós’s historical novels, Memoirs of a 1815 courtier and The second jacket.
