Love, Joy, and Intimacy:: One Family's Response to 550 Days of Lockdown

    Get PDF
Two parents and their middle school aged child reflect back on 550 days of COVID-19 lockdown.  Using a Poem in 3 Voices platform, each of them respond in conversation-style about their love of each other, their love of learning, and the joy and healing they found in common everyday things like reading, writing, cooking, music, and gardening.  Their playful banter seeks to speak to the intimacy they intentionally built with each other during the pain of the pandemic and their unspeakable losses.  The purpose of this aesthetic work is to illuminate that not all of lockdown was despair and that, in the midst of pain, there can also be moments of love, joy, and intimacy

The outcomes of psychotherapy in mixed features personality disorders: a systematic review

    Get PDF
Mixed features personality disorders (PDs) are highly prevalent and associated with significant burden of disease. Despite that, it has been an overlooked diagnostic category with respect to clinical research. This study aims to review empirical evidence about psychotherapy delivery available for these patients. We present a systematic review of clinical trials investigating the outcomes of psychotherapeutic interventions in adults with a primary diagnosis of mixed features PDs. Data were obtained from Medline/PubMed, Embase and PsycINFO. Seven studies met inclusion criteria; in one of them the whole sample was of this diagnostic group; two studies analysed psychotherapeutic intervention outcomes in this population, among other types of PDs, yet drawing specific conclusions on mixed features PDs patients; remaining studies addressed patient samples with different PDs types, mixed features included, where specific findings in this group of patients were not described – nonetheless, they included representative numbers of subjects with the diagnosis of interest. Available studies suggest that mixed features personality pathology per se does not seem to be an impediment to benefit from psychotherapeutic treatment, and improvement in different areas of life is possible for patients undergoing psychotherapy. The extant literature is marked by multiple challenges and inconsistencies across studies

This work is financed by national funds through the FCT—Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., under the project UIDB/04585/2020.Obstructive sleep apnea is a sleep disorder with a high prevalence in the world population. The mandibular advancement device is one of the options for treating obstructive sleep apnea. Neck computed tomography and drug-induced sleep endoscopy are complementary diagnostic tests that may help predict the effectiveness of mandibular advancement devices. This study aims to analyze the best method for predicting the effectiveness of mandibular advancement devices in the therapeutic approach to obstructive sleep apnea. PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and Web of Science Core Collection databases will be comprehensively searched. We will include randomized clinical trials, non-randomized prospective or retrospective clinical studies, case controls, cohort studies, and case series. Two authors will independently conduct data extraction and assess the literature quality of the studies. The analysis of the included literature will be conducted by Revman 5.3 software. The outcomes that will be analyzed are craniofacial characteristics, cephalometric assessments, site and type of obstruction of the upper airway, mean values of the apnea-hypopnea index, and SaO2 verified in the initial and follow-up polysomnography. This study will provide reliable, evidence-based support for the clinical application of mandibular advancement devices for obstructive sleep apnea.publishersversionpublishe
