Autor se zabývá otázkou inteligentních domů se zaměřením na seniory či postižené lidi. Jako srdce domu používá standardní počítač architektury x86 a SmartHome komunikační modul \cite{Doktor:2010} jako prostředek pro faktické ovládání vybavení domácnosti. Největším přínosem tohoto projektu je ve velmi intuitivním a jednoduchém uživatelském rozhraní. Toto rozhraní bylo speciálně navrženo, aby jej lidé rádi používali. Tohoto bylo dosaženo vytvořením MythTV plug-inu, běžícího pod GNU/Linux operačním systémem. Dalším významným přínosem je Fedora GNU/Linux instalační předpis, který automaticky nainstaluje a nakonfiguruje cílový počítač.The author addresses the question of intelligent building for elderly or disabled people. It uses standard x86 architecture as the hearth of the house using SmartHome communication module \cite{Doktor:2010} to handle the home equipments. The main advantage of this project is very intuitive and simple user interface. This interface was especially designed to make people like it and use it. This was achieved by creating MythTV plug-in running on top of GNU/Linux operation system. Another significant income is special Fedora GNU/Linux installation script which automatically installs and configures the target computer.

In Moving Color: Motion Controlled Art Program

Computer hardware has greatly expanded from the standard keyboard and mouse. Touch screens seem to be taking over that field. Recently a new technology has been developed that offers an alternative to touch screens. Myo is a motion controlled armband that uses hand and arm gestures to control various Bluetooth devices. The objective of this research is to create a game or write a program that uses Myo’s capabilities as its main control device. The primary focus of the game will be drawing and painting. Expectations include using Myo to draw on a blank canvas, control the utensil color, control the utensil size, as well as change the type of utensil. This research will investigate the language compatibility of Myo which is capable of using several languages such as Java, C++, Python, and many adaptations to other languages. The research project will experiment with multiple languages to see which one is the most compatible for its purpose. Myo is still in development stages so as the research is being conducted, more possibilities may open up. New gestures are being recorded which can be translated into tasks. Future research will experiment with what these developers have in store for Myo, and expand the project to test Myo’s limits

Investigating DHA Levels in Rat Brain Tissues in Relation to Maternal THC Exposure Using MALDI-IMS

This research focuses on investigating whether maternal exposure to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) has an effect on lowering DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) levels in female and male offspring, and if an omega-3 rich diet, containing DHA, is able to recover DHA levels following a THC caused deficiency. To study this, DHA levels in rat brain tissues from 21-Day-Old offspring were compared across four different groups of maternal rats, vehicle rats with a controlled diet (veh/ct), vehicle rats with an omega-3 rich diet (veh/n3), THC treated rats with a controlled diet (thc/ct), and THC treated rats with an omega-3 rich diet (thc/n3) using MALDI-IMS (Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Imaging Mass Spectrometry). Using MALDI-IMS allowed a mass spectrum of all the ion masses present in the rat brain tissues to be collected, and the spatial distributions and identifies of the various compounds present in the sample could be determined. The effect of each condition on DHA levels was then able to be studied by comparing peak area ratios from DHA ions to the veh/ct group. It was determined that on average, THC is responsible for lowering DHA levels in thc/ct rats, and that omega-3 rich diets were successful at increasing DHA levels in both the veh/n3 and thc/n3 conditions, with DHA levels usually being found in higher amounts than in the veh/ct. Female rats on omega-3 rich diets also showed a greater increase in DHA levels than male rats
