Leukemia, originating from the hematopoietic system, is a malignant disease for the treatment of which various glucocorticoids are used. The use of natural products alongside conventional therapy has focused on increasing drug-drug interactions and reducing potential side effects. Based on the idea that propolis and caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) can stimulate cancer cells to differentiation and enhance the effect of chemotherapeutic drugs, we conducted this study. In this study, we investigated whether the synergistic effect of olive oil-based propolis and CAPE is effective with metylprednisolone (MP), which is used for supportive therapy in AML. In the study, OEP (Olive Oil- Based Propolis), CAPE, MP and their combinations were applied to HL -60 cells for 1-3 days. Then, CD11b, CD14 and CD68 antigens were detected on HL -60 cells using flow cytometry techniques to determine the cellular differentiations. As a result, HL -60 cells were found to be significantly directed to CD11b differentiation. OEP and CAPE will enhance the effect of chemotherapy by differentiating cells and ensure treatment completion by minimizing damage to normal tissues and cells

Honeybee products are rich in phenolic compounds, which effect as natural antioxidants. These compounds may be attached as indicators in studies into the floral and geographical origin of the natural bee products. In this study, we aimed to determine average total antioxidant capacity, average total oxidant capacity and average oxidative stress index of natural bee products obtained from different regions of Turkey. Collected honeybee samples were kept at +4o C until extracted. Natural bee products were extracted with specific methods and antioxidant capacities were defined with in vitro analyses and data were compared. As a result, the highest average total antioxidant capacities were observed in propolis and pollen samples. Total antioxidant capacities of honeybee products collected from various regions demonstrated differences (P<0.05) because of different phytogeographical characteristics of regions of Turkey.Honeybee products are rich in phenolic compounds, which effect as natural antioxidants. Sertoli--Leydig hücreli tümör (SLHT)'lerin %70--75'i 40 yaşın altında, 0/010'dan azı menarştan önce veya postmenopozal dönemde görülmektedir. Az diferansiye SLHT nadir görülen, ayı-- rıcı tanısında iğsi hücre komponentli tümörlerin düşünülmesi gereken overin seks kord stromal tümörüdür.70—75% of Sertoli—Leydig cell tumors (SLCT) are diagnosed at before age of 40, and less than 10% takes place before menarche and following menapouse. We report case of right adnexal mass in 59 year—old postmenapousal woman who presented with vaginal bleeding. Sex—cord stro— mal tumor was diagnosed at peroperative frozen section assesment. Staging surgery consisting of peritoneal biopsies, omentectomy and pelvic paraaortic lymph node dissection was performed. ln histopathologic assesment of the slides which were prepared from solid—cyctic areas of the mass, revealed immature sertoli cells forming tubules and wide sarcomatoid differantiation. lmmunhis— tochemically, neoplastic cells stained strongly and diffusely positive with CD 56, focal positive with calretinin and inhibin. Poorly differentiated SLCT was diagnosed with the consideration of both histopathologic and immunhistochemical findings. Poorly differantiated SLCT are unusual sex cord stromal neoplasms of ovary of which differantial diagnosis should include spindle cell neoplasms

Scopu

The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of propolis on biochemical parameters in tissues of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) exposed to Cypermethrin. Cypermethrin is a potential toxic pollutant that directly threats the aquatic ecosystems and environment. Sublethal Cypermethrin concentration of 0.0082 ppm was applied to the fish for 96 h. Propolis is a natural product collected from plants by honey bees. Its polyphenolic components, caffeic acid derivatives and flavonoids in particular, are matter of interest because of their strong antioxidant properties. Therapeutic concentration of propolis has been determined as 10 ppm in a previous study. Herein, malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and catalase (CAT) activities were determined in spleen and heart tissues of rainbow trouts. Results showed that CAT activities and MDA levels increased (P?0.001) in tissues of fish exposed to Cypermethrin compared to control group. CAT activities and MDA levels in the tissues of fish decreased in cyperme-thrin+propolis group (P?0.001) compared to Cypermethrin group. Propolis (10 ppm) on the tissues of the rainbow trout showed significant therapeutic effects. Propolis may serve as an antitoxic agent against pesticide toxicity to aquatic animals
