The Impact of Cell Phone Texting During Aerobic Exercise on Measures of Cognition
International Journal of Exercise Science 12(5): 646-656, 2019. This study assessed the effect of cell phone texting during a 30-minute bout of cycle ergometer exercise on measures of cognition (i.e., reaction time and accuracy). Twenty-eight college students participated in two conditions (cell phone and no cell phone). Reaction time and accuracy were assessed pre- and post-exercise with the use of the Stroop test. Reaction time was significantly worse (p \u3c 0.001) in the cell phone condition from pre- (1003.75 ± 178.04 ms) to post-exercise (1124.46 ± 238.55 ms). Reaction time was significantly better (p \u3c 0.001) in the no cell phone condition from pre- (1107.71 ± 229.54 ms) to post-exercise (953.86 ± 177.42 ms). Accuracy was significantly worse (p = 0.01) in the cell phone condition from pre- (97.61 ± 2.32) to post-exercise (94.04 ± 7.88). Accuracy was significantly better (p \u3c 0.001) in the no cell phone condition from pre- (94.82 ± 4.42) to post-exercise (97.39 ± 2.42). In conclusion, using your cell phone for texting can interfere with the cognitive benefits associated with reaction time and accuracy that are developed from participating in aerobic exercise
Sinteza, antitumorsko i citostatsko djelovanje derivata 6H-indolo[2,3-b]kinoksalina
Various 6-aralkyl-9-substituted-6H-indolo[2,3-b]quinoxalines were synthesized by reaction of 1,5-disubstituted 2,3-dioxo-2,3-dihydroindole with orthophenylene diamine. Appreciable anticancer activity of compounds 5b, 5d, 5g and 5l at various cell lines among 59 human tumor cell panels was observed. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for cytostatic activity against human Molt 4/C8 and CEM T-lymphocytes as well as for murine L1210 leukemia cells. Compound 5h exhibited an IC50 of 71 ÎĽmol mL1 against Molt 4/C8 and 117 ÎĽmol mL1 against CEM compared to melphalan 3.2 ÎĽmol mL1 and 2.5 ÎĽmol mL1, respectively. The IC50 for compound 7i against L1210 was 7.2 ÎĽmol mL1 compared to melphalan 2.1 ÎĽmol mL1.Reakcijom 1,5-disupstituiranih 2,3-diokso-2,3-dihidroindola s ortofenilen diaminom sintetizirani su razliÄŤiti 6-aralkil-9-supstituirani-6H-indolo[2,3-b]kinoksalini. Reversible click chemistry at the service of macromolecular materials
The application of the reversible Diels-Alder (DA) reaction to the realm of furan polymers has recently bloomed, because of its potential for the preparation of a wide variety of novel macromolecular materials based on renewable resources, possessing, among other properties, thermoreversible, mendable and recycling features. In this study, the synthesis and characterisation of novel furan-maleimide monomers, viz. AB-type molecules, and their polycondensation by means of the DA reaction, are presented. These systems represent an interesting alternative to the traditional linear DA polycondensations, because they ensure the ideal initial stoichiometry. The behaviour of two A-B monomers was investigated with the maleimide group protected in the form of a furan-DA adduct in order to obtain a stable monomer and thus avoid premature polymerization. Their polycondensation was then followed after the in situ deprotection at high temperature, followed by the cooling to the appropriate temperature for the DA polymerization to occur.FCT - SFRH/BD/ 28271/2006REEQ/515/CTM/2005POCI 2010FEDE

AGL StimSelect: Software for automated selection of stimuli for artificial grammar learning
Artificial Grammar Learning (AGL) is an experimental paradigm that has been used extensively in cognitive research for many years to study implicit learning, associative learning, and generalization based either on similarity or rules. Without computer assistance it is virtually impossible to generate appropriate grammatical training stimuli along with grammatical or non-grammatical test stimuli that control relevant psychological variables. We present the first flexible, fully automated software for selecting AGL stimuli. The software allows users to specify a grammar of interest, and to manipulate characteristics of training and test sequences, and their relationship to each other. The user thus has direct control over stimulus features that may influence learning and generalization in AGL tasks. The software enables researchers to develop AGL designs that would not be feasible without automatic stimulus selection. It is implemented in Matlab
A Large Gene Network in Immature Erythroid Cells Is Controlled by the Myeloid and B Cell Transcriptional Regulator PU.1
PU.1 is a hematopoietic transcription factor that is required for the development of myeloid and B cells. PU.1 is also expressed in erythroid progenitors, where it blocks erythroid differentiation by binding to and inhibiting the main erythroid promoting factor, GATA-1. However, other mechanisms by which PU.1 affects the fate of erythroid progenitors have not been thoroughly explored. Here, we used ChIP-Seq analysis for PU.1 and gene expression profiling in erythroid cells to show that PU.1 regulates an extensive network of genes that constitute major pathways for controlling growth and survival of immature erythroid cells. By analyzing fetal liver erythroid progenitors from mice with low PU.1 expression, we also show that the earliest erythroid committed cells are dramatically reduced in vivo. Furthermore, we find that PU.1 also regulates many of the same genes and pathways in other blood cells, leading us to propose that PU.1 is a multifaceted factor with overlapping, as well as distinct, functions in several hematopoietic lineages
Direct Binding of pRb/E2F-2 to GATA-1 Regulates Maturation and Terminal Cell Division during Erythropoiesis
Cell differentiation is often coupled with cell cycle arrest. Here, we show that direct binding of the erythroid transcription factor GATA-1 to the retinoblastoma protein and the pRb/E2F transcription factor complex is critical for red blood cell formation

Le protectionnisme et l'industrie sidérurgique des Etats-Unis
[eng] W. Adams and J. Dirlam - Protectionism and the U.S. Steel Industry.. In view of the actual tendencies towards protectionnism, several questions are raised as regards the consequences of the process by which the protectionnistic moves of oligopolies or similar market structures are creating world cartels. This process is clearly shown by the case study of the U.S. Steel Industry. The quotas, and more specifically the market arrangements and volontary restraints agreements are the main weapons used for the protection of the poligopoly. But the costs run high.
