THE ROLE OF FIRMS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP ON LOCAL DEVELOPMENT
The present paper considers and analyzes the role of management and entrepreneurship on the firm and region sustainability. This relation was explored in terms of managers’ behaviour related to three aspects of sustainable development, namely, economic, social and environmental.Through a questionnaire survey of 251 micro, small and medium firms in Vale do Sousa region located in the Northern Portugal, it was discovered that, contrary to what most of literature presents, managers are putting in first place the environmental aspect of sustainability, followed by the social aspect, and the economic as the last one. These results lead to a characterization of firms as being sustainable, but with a risk-averse and non innovative behaviour on the part of the firms’ management.small firms, entrepreneurship, sustainability
Dynamic - Constant proportion portfolio insurance: aplicação ao índice FTSE 100
Given the risk aversion usually associated with financial markets investors’, it is common, in literature, to present and study strategies to be used in order to limit risk.
In this work, a traditional risk management strategy Constant Proportion Portfolio Insurance Strategy (CPPI) is modified in order to use a dynamic multiplier that varies based on the fluctuations of the risky asset prices. This strategy is called Dynamic - Constant Proportion Portfolio Insurance (D-CPPI).
The multiplier is adjusted according to the price fluctuations, which means that it will increase when the quote goes up and decrease when the quote goes down.
The work is based on the model presented by Yao & Li (2016) and is applied to the British stock market (FTSE 100) in the 2008-2018 period. The performance of D-CPPI is analysed and compared with the performance of the traditional CPPI strategy and with the Buy and Hold (BH) strategy. It also sought to analyse the impact of Brexit on the British market and whether the use of D-CPPI effectively reduces the risk faced by investors in this troubled period.
The results show that the D-CPPI has the best profitability rates in falling markets despite its performance is generally lower than CPPI and BH strategies. BH proves to be the strategy that achieves better performance, despite being the one with the highest levels of risk. Brexit had a great impact in the market, however, the use of D-CPPI allowed to guarantee the expected results
The interactions between the construction and the interpretation of statistical graphs in modelling projects with the use of Information and Communication Technologies
This article presents a part of a thesis that analyzes the reading, construction and interpretation of statistical graphs in modelling projects with the use of information and communication technologies. Being more specific, we analyzed the interactions between the construction and the interpretation of statistical graphs. The research, which is of the qualitative nature, occurred in a high school that has professional courses, located in Bahia and it is justified by the shortcomings pointed out by the demands of researches about statistical graphs. The data were collected through observations, documents and interviews with groups of students of technical courses in Agroindustry and Nursing. The analyze of the data shows, that in the interaction between the construction and the interpretation of statistical graphs, some graphs needed to be reconstructed due to the graph constructed previously, where misunderstandings and/or difficulties were identified in its interpretation. This generated a process which we call interaction between construction and interpretation of graphs. Thus, we indentified that were composed collective of humans, speaking, writing and computing, that produced mathematical, technological and reflexive collectively or coflexive knowledge.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
No
A literatura

Hierarchical effects on body size evolution and the macroecology of South American rainforest mammals
The relationship between geographic range size and body size analyzed at the continental scale for many species has been described recently by an envelope region defined in bivariate space and limited by ecological and physical constraints. These constraints can be explained by stochastic extinction related to minimum population density and energetic theories for an optimal body size. However, since data are obtained for different species in a large taxonomic group, it is possible that these variables may be strongly affected by phylogenetic autocorrelation. In this paper, we analyzed data on geographic range size and body size for 87 species of Neotropical rainforest mammals from South America, searching for phylogenetic effects changing the shape of constraint space. We used a nested ANOVA design to evaluate and remove large scale hierarchical (phylogenetic) trends in the two variables. Body size was more affected by phylogenetic effects than geographic range size. After removing these effects, we noted that the two macroecological variables analyzed support the shape of constraint space previously observed in North American species. The most important aspect of our analyses is that a model for optimal body size related to life-history variations provides an useful theoretical framework to understand how processes of species dynamics can lead to the observed macroecological patterns
Autogenous vaginal tunics have been researched in lamellar keratoplasty in dogs using fresh autogenous grafts in the repair of superficial keratectomies. Fourteen dogs have been used for the evaluation at the early, intermediary and late postoperative periods. Photophobia, blepharospasm, ocular discharge, edema, neovascularization and pigmentation have been observed.
