On an Umbral Point of View of the Gaussian and Gaussian-like Functions

    Get PDF
The theory of Gaussian functions is reformulated using an umbral point of view. The symbolic method we adopt here allows an interpretation of the Gaussian in terms of a Lorentzian image function. The formalism also suggests the introduction of a new point of view of trigonometry, opening a new interpretation of the associated special functions. The Erfi ( x ) , is, for example, interpreted as the “sine” of the Gaussian trigonometry. The possibilities offered by the Umbral restyling proposed here are noticeable and offered by the formalism itself. We mention the link between higher-order Gaussian trigonometric functions, Hermite polynomials, and the possibility of introducing new forms of distributions with longer tails than the ordinary Gaussians. The possibility of framing the theoretical content of the present article within a redefinition of the hypergeometric function is eventually discussed

    Supramolecular surfaces for protein immobilisation.

Protein immobilisation represents nowadays one of the most challenging fields in science, and many technologies have been developed based on this idea. Biosensors, using the interaction of the protein with glucose, DNA, or antibody are only a few examples of the massive amount of applications related to the concept of protein immobilisation. Despite many signs of progress that have been made in this field, the best method to immobilise protein on the surface is still not well defined. The immobilisation of proteins on the surface is nowadays obtained mostly through chemical or physical adsorption. Both methods, even considering the considerable amount of applications that are possible to find nowadays, still present some disadvantages. The supramolecular chemistry has the potential to overcome all these problems in a very elegant, fast and straightforward way, implying the host-guest interaction between a scaffold molecule and a protein. According to this, the development of a protein immobilising technique on the surface represents one of the most challenging tasks nowadays. This work is focused on the study of supramolecular complex proteins-scaffold and on the conditions to reach a well-packed self-assembled monolayer of these scaffolds on a surface. This method, with better control of its physiological conditions, can be used for a deeper study on protein activity for the development of highly accurate biochips

On an Umbral point of view to the Gaussian and Gaussian like functions

In this note we review the theory of Gaussian functions by exploiting a point of view based on symbolic methods of umbral nature. We introduce quasi-Gaussian functions, which are close to Gaussian distribution but have a longer tail. Their use and their link with hypergeometric function is eventually presented

Urinary exosomal shuttle RNA: Promising cancer diagnosis biomarkers of lower urinary tract.

    Get PDF
Background: Prostate and bladder cancers continue to be the first and fourth most common cancers in men worldwide; thus there is an urgent need for more accurate biomarkers that can detect these types of cancer in a non-invasive way. Liquid biopsy is a new non-invasive tool for diagnosis and with a virtually unlimited supply urine is even more attractive resource since urinary exosomes have been discovered to contain RNAs that are hallmarks of cancer. It is challenging to assay those secreting lower amounts of molecules. Methods: This review, based on articles identified through a PubMed/MEDLINE search, comprehensively summarizes state of the art approaches used in the discovery and validation of exosomal RNA biomarkers purified from the urine for lower urinary tract cancer. Results: The combination of PCA3 and ERG has shown a relatively good improvement in diagnostic performance; examples of other potential biomarkers and the methods utilized in their discovery are also discussed in this review. Conclusions: Of these last markers, to date there are still few data to implement these for routine diagnosis

    Chronic Endometritis

Chronic endometritis is a persistent inflammation of the inner lining of the uterine cavity. Several studies have demonstrated that it is a condition frequently associated with repeated unexplained implantation failure at in vitro fertilization, recurrent miscarriage, as well as poor obstetric outcomes such as preterm labor

Support children's training through experimental pedagogical proposals of motor and sports education

    Get PDF
Motor and sports education supports a fundamental element in the educational growth of each child, and guarantees the acquisition of motor and pedagogical-relational skills, essential for an effective social integration of children in the surrounding environment. Therefore, school should be the main place where these skills are learned, especially at primary level; in this regard, this research contribution aims at evaluating the progresses of a sample class, which is given an experimental motor and sports design in order to obtain a pedagogical progress. The pursued outcomes are proposed both as a starting point for future scientific research in the educational field, and as a valid support for requesting pedagogical proposals from the decision makers of the education and training system

Gulliver - Guided Navigation inside the Computer

    Get PDF
Gulliver was born from the requirement for a tool able to develop computers architecture projects primarily for didactic purposes. Using Gulliver it is possible:- to define computei.- architectures in an incremental way, starting from a minimal structure building up to more complex ones;- to define symbolic program languages coherently with the model of the architecture implemented;- to simulate functionality of the architecture and the language proposed for each stage of the development.Such a system is of considerable utility both for the teacher, who can strengthen the effect of a traditional lesson by simple experiments directed at the topic to be deepened, and for the student as an instrument of study and/or for the autoevaluation of the learning level acquired in the subject. Finally, Gulliver can be considered to be the nucleus of a development tool for system architectural projects
