A generalization of the Ginzburg-Landau theory to p-wave superconductors

We succeed to build up a straightforward theoretical model for spin-triplet p-wave superconductors by introducing in Ginzburg-Landau theory a second order parameter and a suitable interaction between the two mean fields.Comment: RevTeX, 4 pages, no figure

Black hole evaporation in a spherically symmetric non-commutative space-time

Recent work in the literature has studied the quantum-mechanical decay of a Schwarzschild-like black hole, formed by gravitational collapse, into almost-flat space-time and weak radiation at a very late time. The relevant quantum amplitudes have been evaluated for bosonic and fermionic fields, showing that no information is lost in collapse to a black hole. On the other hand, recent developments in noncommutative geometry have shown that, in general relativity, the effects of non-commutativity can be taken into account by keeping the standard form of the Einstein tensor on the left-hand side of the field equations and introducing a modified energy-momentum tensor as a source on the right-hand side. Relying on the recently obtained non-commutativity effect on a static, spherically symmetric metric, we have considered from a new perspective the quantum amplitudes in black hole evaporation. The general relativity analysis of spin-2 amplitudes has been shown to be modified by a multiplicative factor F depending on a constant non-commutativity parameter and on the upper limit R of the radial coordinate. Limiting forms of F have been derived which are compatible with the adiabatic approximation.Comment: 8 pages, Latex file with IOP macros, prepared for the QFEXT07 Conference, Leipzig, September 200

    Non-commutative Kerr black hole

This paper applies the first-order Seiberg-Witten map to evaluate the first-order non-commutative Kerr tetrad. The classical tetrad is taken to follow the locally non-rotating frame prescription. We also evaluate the tiny effect of non-commutativity on the efficiency of the Penrose process of rotational energy extraction from a black hole.Comment: 14 pages. Dependence of the critical temperature on the Higgs field reparametrization

We show that, despite of the reparametrization symmetry of the Lagrangian describing the interaction between a scalar field and gauge vector bosons, the dynamics of the Higgs mechanism is really affected by the representation gauge chosen for the Higgs field. Actually, we find that, varying the parametrization for the two degrees of freedom of the complex scalar field, we obtain different expressions for the Higgs mass: in its turn this entails different expressions for the critical temperatures, ranging from zero to a maximum value, as well as different expressions for other basic thermodynamical quantities.Comment: revtex, 12 pages, 2 eps figure

Black hole evaporation within a momentum-dependent metric

We investigate the black hole thermodynamics in a "deformed" relativity framework where the energy-momentum dispersion law is Lorentz-violating and the Schwarzchild-like metric is momentum-dependent with a Planckian cut-off. We obtain net deviations of the basic thermodynamical quantities from the Hawking-Bekenstein predictions: actually, the black hole evaporation is expected to quit at a nonzero critical mass value (of the order of the Planck mass), leaving a zero temperature remnant, and avoiding a spacetime singularity. Quite surprisingly, the present semiclassical corrections to black hole temperature, entropy, and heat capacity turn out to be identical to the ones obtained within some quantum approaches

2002 Molise earthquake: the run of the reconstruction

The job illustrates the activities, the normative and procedural dispositions of the reconstruction in Molise that has been on its way after the 2002 earthquake. The individualized run has been characterized by numerous technical innovations, consequent to the emanation of the new seismic code (OPCM n. 3274/2003). The President of the Region, Delegated Commissioner for the reconstruction after-earthquake 2002, has programmed and coordinated all the activities, using structures of consultation, of address and of technical support. Particularly, the Scientific Technical Committee (CTS) has taken care of the containing directives, the criterions and the general norms for the trial of the reconstruction, emanate through the Ordinance of the Delegated Commissioner n. 13/2003. The Committee for the Microzonation (CMS) has predisposed indications and guidelines, while the CNR Institute for the Technologies of the Construction, in collaboration with the University of Basilicata and Dicat-University of Genoa, has up the guidelines for the investigations of vulnerability and for the interventions on the scholastic buildings, on the churches and on the monumental buildings. Finally, the Delegated Commissioner has ordered that the Local Corporate Bodies were made themselves responsible for the reconstruction realization. In the Campobasso province , with exception of the S.Giuliano diPuglia common, have been compiled about 16.200 preliminary projects (PPS). It is esteemed a general economic requirement of about 1.800 million of Euros for the residential buildings and of about 900 million of Euros for the public works. The reconstruction is in advanced realization and involves the buildings affected by an evacuation measure (Priority A).PublishedPisa, Italia4.2. Scenari e mappe di pericolositĂ  sismica e dannoope

Gravitational amplitudes in black-hole evaporation: the effect of non-commutative geometry

The general relativity analysis of spin-2 amplitudes is shown to be modified by a multiplicative factor F depending on a constant non-commutativity parameter and on the upper limit R of the radial coordinate. Limiting forms of F are derived which are compatible with the adiabatic approximation here exploited. Approximate formulae for the particle emission rate are also obtained within this framework.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures, Latex macros. Nonlocal field theory driven by a deformed product. Generalization of Kalb-Ramond duality

A modification of the standard product used in local field theory by means of an associative deformed product is proposed. We present a class of deformed products, one for every spin S=0,1/2,1, that induces a nonlocal theory, displaying different form for different fields. This type of deformed product is naturally supersymmetric and it has an intriguing duality.Comment: 23 pages, Late

Majorana solutions to the two-electron problem

A review of the known different methods and results devised to study the two-electron atom problem, appeared in the early years of quantum mechanics, is given, with particular reference to the calculations of the ground state energy of helium. This is supplemented by several, unpublished results obtained around the same years by Ettore Majorana, which results did not convey in his published papers on the argument, and thus remained unknown until now. Particularly interesting, even for current research in atomic and nuclear physics, is a general variant of the variational method, developed by Majorana in order to take directly into account, already in the trial wavefunction, the action of the full Hamiltonian operator of a given quantum system. Moreover, notable calculations specialized to the study of the two-electron problem show the introduction of the remarkable concept of an effective nuclear charge different for the two electrons (thus generalizing previous known results), and an application of the perturbative method, where the atomic number Z was treated effectively as a continuous variable, contributions to the ground state energy of an atom with given Z coming also from any other Z. Instead, contributions relevant mainly for pedagogical reasons count simple broad range estimates of the helium ionization potential, obtained by suitable choices for the wavefunction, as well as a simple alternative to Hylleraas' method, which led Majorana to first order calculations comparable in accuracy with well-known order 11 results derived, in turn, by Hylleraas.Comment: amsart, 20 pages, no figure

Einstein, Planck and Vera Rubin: Relevant Encounters Between the Cosmological and the Quantum Worlds

    Get PDF
In Cosmology and in Fundamental Physics there is a crucial question like: where the elusive substance that we call Dark Matter is hidden in the Universe and what is it made of? that, even after 40 years from the Vera Rubin seminal discovery [1] does not have a proper answer. Actually, the more we have investigated, the more this issue has become strongly entangled with aspects that go beyond the established Quantum Physics, the Standard Model of Elementary particles and the General Relativity and related to processes like the Inflation, the accelerated expansion of the Universe and High Energy Phenomena around compact objects. Even Quantum Gravity and very exotic Dark Matter particle candidates may play a role in framing the Dark Matter mystery that seems to be accomplice of new unknown Physics. Observations and experiments have clearly indicated that the above phenomenon cannot be considered as already theoretically framed, as hoped for decades. The Special Topic to which this review belongs wants to penetrate this newly realized mystery from different angles, including that of a contamination of different fields of Physics apparently unrelated. We show with the works of this ST that this contamination is able to guide us into the required new Physics. This review wants to provide a good number of these \u201cpaths or contamination\u201d beyond/among the three worlds above; in most of the cases, the results presented here open a direct link with the multi-scale dark matter phenomenon, enlightening some of its important aspects. Also in the remaining cases, possible interesting contacts emerges. Finally, a very complete and accurate bibliography is provided to help the reader in navigating all these issues
