This work show how is possible to handle generic signal via a numerical system. In particular we create a complete software and hardware environment for signal treatment by digital signal processor (DSP). Digital signal processing allows a full and customizable control on signal, unlike the analog treatment of the information. Signals generated by analog or digital system are mostly indistinguishable. Moreover, we take the advantages of the numerical system like low cost, easy mass-production, error correction and no need of specific hardware. Simply by re-coding the algorithm executed by the DSP instead of by hardware modifications, is possible to create any type of telecomunication signal and hardware equivalent architecture we need

    G-quartet biomolecular nanowires

We present a first-principle investigation of quadruple helix nanowires, consisting of stacked planar hydrogen-bonded guanine tetramers. Our results show that long wires form and are stable in potassium-rich conditions. We present their electronic bandstructure and discuss the interpretation in terms of effective wide-bandgap semiconductors. The microscopic structural and electronic properties of the guanine quadruple helices make them suitable candidates for molecular nanoelectronics.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, to be published in Applied Physics Letters (2002

From biomechanics to learning: Continuum for the theory of physical and sports education

The structures of the human body allow biomechanical movements in a series of kinetic sequences. The study of movement is often characterized by the excessive use of new technologies that also invade dynamics with deterministic hypotheses that are only of computer engineering and only for diagnostic aspects of bioinformatics. Biomechanics is therefore often reduced to the expansion of statics and kinematics without any consideration of dynamics in the full sense of the meaning. The dynamic is the basis on which all the laws of movement are implemented, attributing a cause that includes the reaction to the stresses integrated by the decision choices of each individual person. Integration is characterized by the quality of decisions that characterize the difference between motor learning. Decisions are generated by the learning teaching processes to which every human being in developmental age is subjected. It is clear that biomechanical acquisitions can make an important contribution in the evaluation and management of problems affecting human movement, but, in an integrated way, they need other knowledge and interventions to be truly effective in their application

Towards a Software Tool Supporting Urban Decision Makers in Locating and Sizing the Household Garbage Accumulation Points Within Cities

Locating and sizing garbage bins for the separate accumulation of household solid waste within urban areas is of primary interest for the local administrations that so far lack adequate IT support. The paper highlights the versatility of a method for solving such a problem, which involves both standard and geographic data. Implementation of the proposal, centered around a spatial database, goes in the direction of developing a supporting software tool to the officials responsible for the management of municipal solid waste. They are offered a dual-mode display of the results: one tabular (the standard format featured by relational databases) and the other based on the metaphor of geographic maps, the latter being particularly useful in capitalizing on the spatial component of the problem
