A user centric approach to the development and testing of a home energy management system
The development and small scale field trial in Flanders of a home energy management system is presented. During the development, a user-centric approach was used to create interaction between developers and possible end-users in a living lab setting. This allowed actively addressing people’s needs and wants in the development process and testing the system in their homes. The preliminary results of the field trial indicate a high usage during the starting week, which gradually slows down over the weeks that follow. Usage of the different elements in the system varies over the weeks but a consistent “top 3” of elements remains. Dynamic pricing is used by a small but consistent part of the participants. They actively adapt their appliance usage to these prices
Conversation and critique within the architectural design process: a linkograph analysis
Conversation and critique are central to architectural design practice as they function as tools for probing and further improving design ideas. We study the kind of design activities that take place in such conversation and critique within the architectural design process. We use linkographs to characterise the design process taking place during conversation. More precisely, we study conversations between design teachers and design students. In this article, an example design process is considered that takes place via a traditional face-to-face meeting. Using the resulting linkograph, we are able to assess the kind of design activity taking place during such sessions of conversation and critique
Kind mobile notifications for healthcare professionals
[EN] The inclusion of the Internet of Things in healthcare is producing numerous automatic notifications for health professionals. These notifications must be delivered in the right moment and in the right way to be appropriately attended, and at the same time, ensuring no important task is interrupted. In this work, we have applied a human-centred design method to deal with this issue. By collaborating with health professionals in Belgium, we have designed and validated DELICATE, a conceptual framework that categorizes the different attention needs for each notification, and links them with the delivery mechanisms that are more appropriate for each particular context. As an aid for designers, we also define methodological guidelines to clearly determine how DELICATE can be used to develop a notification system. Finally, as a proof-of-concept validation of the framework, we have implemented it in an Android application and tested it using real scenarios. This validation has shown that DELICATE can be used to design a notification system that delivers kind healthcare notifications. The author(s) disclosed receipt of the following financial support for the research, authorship and/or publication of this article: Pedro Valderas's work has been developed with the financial support of the Spanish State Research Agency under the project TIN2017-84094-R and co-financed with ERDF.
processos passivos no tratamento do efluente gerado.
A nossa
This paper aims to present the Trainee Programme developed in a football club, the
Portimonense Sporting Clube, in order to obtain the Sports Management Masters degree
from Faculdade de Motricidade Humana and presents a description of the developed
activities as well a personal analysis about Football Training. As football is one of the
most popular sports nationwide and worldwide and as it is an area with great possibilities
of growth and innovation, especially in what concerns Sports Management, the choice of
Portimonense Sporting Clube was the right option for our intervention as trainees. In this
paper, we describe all the main activities that we developed during our trainee
programme, both as learning processes and as a contribution to the improvement of the
football training management and performance of this Portuguese First League club. We
collaborated in different divisions of this club, having been given responsibilities in the
creation and management of some projects, such as the process of certification of
formation entities of the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol, the organization of events, the
logistics related to the Football Training and the management of the club’s online
platform. Despite several difficulties, the cooperation amongst all members was crucial
for the success of our activities. Open to innovation, our supervisor as well as the
executive members gave us the opportunity to develop freely our projects which we hope
to have contributed to the club’s organizational development. Finally, having in account
this trainee experience, we point out ways of improvement, namely a stronger
commitment in Football Training that will stand out in the future as a real strength in a
professional football club
Assim, a Supervisão
A interacção partilhada é a
professores

A personal decision support system for heart failure management (HeartMan) : study protocol of the HeartMan randomized controlled trial
Background: Heart failure (HF) is a highly prevalent chronic disease, for which there is no cure available. Therefore, improving disease management is crucial, with mobile health (mHealth) being a promising technology. The aim of the HeartMan study is to evaluate the effect of a personal mHealth system on top of standard care on disease management and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in HF.
Methods: HeartMan is a randomized controlled 1:2 (control: intervention) proof-of-concept trial, which will enrol 120 stable ambulatory HF patients with reduced ejection fraction across two European countries. Participants in the intervention group are equipped with a multi-monitoring health platform with the HeartMan wristband sensor as the main component. HeartMan provides guidance through a decision support system on four domains of disease management (exercise, nutrition, medication adherence and mental support), adapted to the patient's medical and psychological profile. The primary endpoint of the study is improvement in self-care and HRQoL after a six-months intervention. Secondary endpoints are the effects of HeartMan on: behavioural outcomes, illness perception, clinical outcomes and mental state.
Discussion: HeartMan is technologically the most innovative HF self-management support system to date. This trial will provide evidence whether modern mHealth technology, when used to its full extent, can improve HRQoL in HF
