Liver is one of the most important organs in vertebrates that have important roles in detoxifying. This organ was used as a target organ in many physiological and toxicological aspects. The main purpose of the present study was developing appropriate methodology for the primary cultivation of hepatic cells from orange-spotted Grouper, Epinephelus coioides, a subtropical fish species of the family Serranidae. In present study, hepatocytes were isolated from five grouper individuals. Initially, the fish wiped with 70% ethanol. Liver were removed and cut into small pieces with scissors and hepatocytes were disconnected using different enzymatic digestion with collagenase (Type 1 and 4) and trypsin and additional nutrient materials in culturing mediums. Then, cells were cultured for 2 weeks in Lebowitz L-15 under 3 methods: 1. using enzymatic digestion by trypsin, 2. using enzymatic digestion by collagenase (type 1 and 4) and 3. Using nutrients and additives was cultured. Finally, effects of different incubation temperature (20, 25, 28, 30 and 32 degree of Celsius) and Bovine serum content (0, 10 and 20% and 20%+ITS) on cell growth were estimated. According to the results, digestion by collagenase type 4, resulted in more cell colonization and growth in comparison with other methods. At the same method, cells showed fibroblastic morphology. In conclusion, the best culture method for primary hepatocyte from orange-spotted Grouper, Epinephelus coioides, was using ITS+20%FBS under 30 degree of Celsius incubation temperature

Analysis and determination of mercury, cadmium and lead in canned tuna fish marketed in Iran

    Get PDF
The objective of this study is to determine mercury, cadmium and lead concentrations in 60 canned tuna fish samples produced and distributed in Iran after digestion by the standard methods of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists. Mercury contents in canned tuna fish were determined by cold vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometry while cadmium and lead were determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The metal contents, expressed in μg g-1wet weight for mercury, cadmium and lead varied from 0.010 to 0.401 (average of 0.125), 0.008 to 0.150 (average of 0.050) and 0.021 to 0.301 (average of 0.096), respectively. The values  were comparable and in the range of the literature values. The results of this study indicate that tuna fish produced and marketed in Iran have concentrations well below the standards of FAO/WHO levels of these toxic metals.Key words: Canned tuna fish, heavy metals, mercury, cadmium, lead

A Comparative Study of the Figures of Speech between Top 50 English and Persian Pop Song Lyrics

This paper is a corpus-based comparative discourse analysis of top fifty pop English and Persian song lyrics in 2014 to investigate the production of four figures of speech including metaphor, simile, personification, and hyperbole. The English corpus was compiled from the End-Year 2014 Chart of Billboard and the Persian corpus was complied from the most downloaded songs and the results of an informal inquiry among the researchers’ friends and colleagues for the most favorite songs in 2014. Firstly, the four figures of speech were identified and counted in the English and Persian verses twice by the researchers who were Persian graduates of TEFL and a doctoral candidate of English Literature. Then, a joint session was held among them, and a consensus was reached on the discrepancies. Afterwards, the frequencies were submitted to chi-square analysis. The results revealed that there was a significant difference in the usage of figures of speech between the two languages. Persian song lyrics contained more figures of speech both overall and separately; although, there was not any significant difference in the frequency usage of simile and metaphor between the two languages, Persian lyricists used hyperbole and personification more frequently compared to English lyricists. Keywords: song lyrics, figures of speech, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personificatio

Highlights Mental health problems are one of the most common consequences of physical disability, and its prevalence is high in developing countries Participating in physical activity can improve mental health and mindfulness among disabled persons. It is recommended that all centers and organizations that interact with physically disabled people include physical activities to their programs to improve mental health. Background: Physical Activity as a fundamental basis, generally for everyone in the community and particularly important for disabled people. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Physical Activity on mental health and mindfulness in veterans and disabled people. Methods: The method of this research is descriptive-correlational. 100 veteran and disabled athletes and 100 veterans and non-athlete disabled participated in this research among disability institutions and rehabilitation centers in Ahvaz. The instrument used in this study was an international physical activity, mental health and mindfulness questionnaire. Results: The mean age was in the athlete group (29.87 ± 3.88) and in the non-athlete group (28.25 ± 3.55). The results of independent t-test showed that there is a significant difference between the two groups, which shows the positive effect of activity on mental health and mindfulness variables in veterans and disabled athletes compared to non-athletes. It was also found that physical activity variable predicts two variables of mental health and mindfulness in veterans and the disabled. Multiple correlation coefficient was equal to MR = 0.879 and determination coefficient was equal to R2 = 0.772 which was significant at P <0.01 level. Conclusion: In a general conclusion, participation in active activities and having sufficient mobility in veterans and disabled people can improve mental variables such as mental health and also mind awareness

Background: Nowadays widespread applications of antibiotics caused to create resistant microorganisms and increased additive antibiotic resistance in all over the world. Thus, researches linked to investigate new antimicrobial agents that are produced in natural way have great significance to achieve new pharmaceutics resources. Based on many accomplished researches, some macroalgae have found to show noticeable antimicrobial and antifungal activities. Methods: In this research antimicrobial activity of organic extracts of the macroalgae "Laurencia snyderiae" and Sargassum angustifolium (which has been collected from coasts of Boushehr port) was tested against 3 Gram- positive bacteria Streptococous mutans, Streptococous salivaris and Streptococous sanguis as well as 4 Gram- negative bacteria Salmonella typhi, Proteus vulgaris, Shigella flexniu and Micrococos luteus. Extraction was carried out using maceration method, methanol and chloroform extracts was obtained. Antimicrobial activities of the final extracts was tested using two methods agar disk diffusion method and serial tube dilution method (in order to determine) Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). Results: Results of bioassay showed the tested macroalgae exhibited the highest antibacterial activity against Gram- negative bacteria, S. typhi and Gram- negative bacteria M. Luteus exhibited the highest resistant against algal extracts. Conclusion: red alga L. snyderiae exhibited higher antibacterial activity than brown alga S. angustifolium against tested bacteria strains

Acceleration of trimethylamine removal process under synergistic effect of photocatalytic oxidation and surface discharge plasma reactor

    No full text
International audienceRemoval of trimethylamine (TMA) from the air is exptl. investigated by combining photocatalysis with a DBD plasma reactor, at ambient temp. and atm. pressure. Many parameters are investigated in this work, such as flowrate, inlet concn., relative humidity of effluent, and specific energy of discharge. By combining non-thermal plasma and photocatalysis, a synergy effect on the removal efficiency of TMA has been obsd. under different exptl. conditions. Moreover, we note that adding a photocatalyst in the zone of plasma inhibits ozone formation. The formation of byproducts due to TMA removal is also studied. The identified and analyzed byproducts are classified into four groups: intermediary products, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and ozone and nitrogen oxide
