The morphology of the Magellanic Clouds revealed by stars of different age: results from the DENIS survey
The spatial distribution of sources populating different regions of the
colour-magnitude diagram (I-J, I) extracted from the DENIS catalogue towards
the Magellanic Clouds (DCMC -- Cioni et al. 2000) reveal significantly
different morphologies. Each region is associated to a different age group. The
Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) shows an extended circular shape with a prominent,
off center bar, a nucleus and irregular spiral arms. The Small Magellanic Cloud
shows a perturbated structure with a prominent central concentration of stars.
Old and young populations are offset from one another.Comment: 4 pages and 7 figures, accepted for publication in A&A Journal

Magellanic Cloud Periphery Carbon Stars IV: The SMC
The kinematics of 150 carbon stars observed at moderate dispersion on the
periphery of the Small Magellanic Cloud are compared with the motions of
neutral hydrogen and early type stars in the Inter-Cloud region. The
distribution of radial velocities implies a configuration of these stars as a
sheet inclined at 73+/-4 degrees to the plane of the sky. The near side, to the
South, is dominated by a stellar component; to the North, the far side contains
fewer carbon stars, and is dominated by the neutral gas. The upper velocity
envelope of the stars is closely the same as that of the gas. This
configuration is shown to be consistent with the known extension of the SMC
along the line of sight, and is attributed to a tidally induced disruption of
the SMC that originated in a close encounter with the LMC some 0.3 to 0.4 Gyr
ago. The dearth of gas on the near side of the sheet is attributed to ablation
processes akin to those inferred by Weiner & Williams (1996) to collisional
excitation of the leading edges of Magellanic Stream clouds. Comparison with
pre LMC/SMC encounter kinematic data of Hardy, Suntzeff, & Azzopardi (1989) of
carbon stars, with data of stars formed after the encounter, of Maurice et al.
(1989), and Mathewson et al. (a986, 1988) leaves little doubt that forces other
than gravity play a role in the dynamics of the H I.Comment: 30 pages; 7 figures, latex compiled, 1 table; to appear in AJ (June

Infrared Surface Brightness Analysis of Galaxies in Compact Groups
Images of 7 Compact groups of galaxies (CG) were obtained using the 2.1m
telescope in San Pedro Martir (B.C. Mexico) equipped with the NIR camera
CAMILA. The NIR images trace the mass of the galaxies, through the oldest and
more evolved stellar populations. The goal of this project is to search for
evidence of morphological perturbations correlated with the level of activity
(AGN or star formation) of the galaxies. We find that the level of perturbation
is well correlated with activity observed in optical spectrocopy (Coziol et al.
2004). Evidence for perturbations decreases from more active groups to less
active groups, confirming the classification. Our analysis suggests that
galaxies in more active groups are undergoing important transformations due to
interaction and merging and that the whole groups is on a merger path. Galaxies
in less active CG have gone through similar processes in the recent past and
are either in a final merging phase or in equilibrium due to a more massive
halo of dark matter.Comment: 2 pages, 1 figure, Proc. ESO Workshop "Groups of galaxies in the

Rehabilitacja psychologiczna (i emocjonalna readaptacja) żołnierzy powracających ze strefy walki
The current article presents the essence of theoretical provisions related to professional, psychological, and social rehabilitation of those servicemen who returned from the combat zone in eastern Ukraine. It is noted that psychological rehabilitation is considered as a kind of psychological assistance in that part, which aims to restore the lost (impaired) mental capabilities, emotional functioning, and health. It is emphasized that the object of psychological rehabilitation are people who have received combat mental trauma, which is manifested acutely or delayed in time. The principles of psychological rehabilitation are highlighted: the principle of prevention, the principle of urgency, the principle of the proximity of rehabilitation institutions to the line of combat, the principle of simplicity of measures, the principle of continuity and individualization of measures. The experience of direct rehabilitation work with the military is described; recommendations for optimization of the rehabilitation process are given. It is emphasized that in the process of rehabilitation there is a place for both, unlocking the system of psychological protection of servicemen, and creating an emotionally supportive atmosphere in the group, and for implementing individual and group psychocorrection, training the effective communication skills.W artykule przedstawiono istotę zasad teoretycznych związanych z rehabilitacją zawodową, psychologiczną i społeczną żołnierzy, którzy powrócili ze strefy walki we wschodniej Ukrainie. Opisano następujące zasady rehabilitacji psychologicznej: zasadę zapobiegania, zasadę pilności, zasadę bliskości instytucji rehabilitacyjnych w stosunku do linii walki, zasadę prostoty środków, zasadę ciągłości i indywidualizacji środków.
