Numerical analysis of formability and failure in tube inversion using i-Form

    Get PDF
The work is based on a numerical analysis of aluminum tubes AA6063-T6 deformed with punches of different radius for the inversion process. The main purpose of this work is to determine what are the radii limits for this process, increasing the state of the art. The work begins with an analysis of everything investigated so far. Subsequently, it explains how the whole process has been modeled and how the different results are extracted in the program used: i-Form. The process is modeled to be carried out with a constant speed. Once this is done, all the results obtained are presented, comparing them with experimental results calculated in previous investigations, validating the numerical data. The results that are analyzed are the force and the strains and, once validated, the ductile damage and the space of triaxiality. All this allows to define with certainty the radii limits to carry out the inversion process in a satsifactory way for both small radios and large radios.Universidad de Sevilla. Supporting phase stability on interconnected grids by synchronous renewable virtual power plants

Rapid growing on the power level of renewable generation units leads to that using more adaptable and flexible control techniques in this units becomes more important for grid operators. In this paper, after introducing Renewable Static Synchronous Generation Units (RSSGU) as units with flexible dynamics capability, forming of renewable Virtual Power Plants based on this RSSGUs (VPP-SSG) is suggested as a solution for overcoming phase stability challenges on interconnected generation areas. Based on the dynamic modeling and small signal analysis, an algorithm is presented for the dynamic designing of VPP-SSGs aims to provide supporting damping for both local and interarea oscillatory modes. Modal analysis and time domain study on active powers inside of generation areas and tie lines on two area system using Simulink confirms that these type of VPP-SSGs can support phase stability on power grid with interconnected generation areasPeer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

This paper describes the key aspects of an experience of unification of pairs of subjects in order to create a more suitable scenario for deployment of Project Based Learning. To guide the review of these essential aspects we use a letter that students from the first edition wrote to protest against the organization of the subjects. The analysis of the complaints of the students can be very helpful for others who are planning similar innovations

Phase II clinical trial of nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine in elderly patients with previously untreated locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma: the BIBABRAX study

[Purpose] To evaluate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL), global health status (GHS), and deterioration-free survival of an elderly population (> 70 years) with unresectable locally advanced (LAPC) or metastatic pancreatic cancer (mPC) treated with nab-paclitaxel in combination with gemcitabine.[Methods] In this open-label, single-arm, multicenter, phase II trial, patients received 4-week cycles of intravenous (i.v.) nab-paclitaxel at a dose of 125 mg/m2, followed by i.v. injections of gemcitabine at a dose of 1000 mg/m2 on days 1, 8 and 15 until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity was observed. The primary outcome was the HRQoL (deterioration-free rate at 3 months as evaluated with the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire C30.[Results] Eighty patients (median age: 74.6 years) were enrolled (56 with mPC, 24 with LAPC). The percentage of patients who had not experienced deterioration at 3 months was 54.3% (95% CI 41.6–67.0%). The median (interquartile range) time until definite deterioration was 1.6 (1.1–3.7) months. The objective response rate and clinical benefit rate were achieved by 11 (13.8%, 95% CI 6.2–21.3%) and 54 patients (67.5%, 95% CI 57.2–77.8%), respectively. The median overall survival was 9.2 months (95% CI 6.9–11.5), and the median progression-free survival was 7.2 months (95% CI 5.8–8.5). Only fatigue and neutropenia demonstrated a grade 3–4 toxicity incidence > 20%.[Conclusions] Our study confirms the clinical benefit of the combination of nab-paclitaxel and gemcitabine in an elderly population with pancreatic cancer in terms of improved survival and clinical response. However, we were unable to confirm a benefit in terms of quality-of-life.The BIBABRAX study was funded by Celgene. Antiretroviral therapy duration and immunometabolic state determine efficacy of ex vivo dendritic cell-based treatment restoring functional HIV-specific CD8+ T cells in people living with HIV.

Dysfunction of CD8+ T cells in people living with HIV-1 (PLWH) receiving anti-retroviral therapy (ART) has restricted the efficacy of dendritic cell (DC)-based immunotherapies against HIV-1. Heterogeneous immune exhaustion and metabolic states of CD8+ T cells might differentially associate with dysfunction. However, specific parameters associated to functional restoration of CD8+ T cells after DC treatment have not been investigated. We studied association of restoration of functional HIV-1-specific CD8+ T cell responses after stimulation with Gag-adjuvant-primed DC with ART duration, exhaustion, metabolic and memory cell subsets profiles. HIV-1-specific CD8+ T cell responses from a larger proportion of PLWH on long-term ART (more than 10 years; LT-ARTp) improved polyfunctionality and capacity to eliminate autologous p24+ infected CD4+ T cells in vitro. In contrast, functional improvement of CD8+ T cells from PLWH on short-term ART (less than a decade; ST-ARTp) after DC treatment was limited. This was associated with lower frequencies of central memory CD8+ T cells, increased co-expression of PD1 and TIGIT and reduced mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis induction upon TCR activation. In contrast, CD8+ T cells from LT-ARTp showed increased frequencies of TIM3+ PD1- cells and preserved induction of glycolysis. Treatment of dysfunctional CD8+ T cells from ST-ARTp with combined anti-PD1 and anti-TIGIT antibodies plus a glycolysis promoting drug restored their ability to eliminate infected CD4+ T cells. Together, our study identifies specific immunometabolic parameters for different PLWH subgroups potentially useful for future personalized DC-based HIV-1 vaccines.
