Threshold and transverse-momentum resummations for gaugino-pair hadroproduction
We present precision calculations of the invariant-mass and
transverse-momentum distributions of gaugino pairs produced at hadron
colliders. We implement the threshold and transverse-momentum resummation
formalisms at next-to-leading order accuracy and match the obtained result to
the perturbative prediction at O(alpha_s). We compare the various resummed
cross sections with the perturbative results and Monte Carlo predictions. The
theoretical uncertainties coming from renormalisation and factorisation scale
variations are also discussed.Comment: To appear in the proceedings of Moriond QCD 201
Transverse-momentum resummation for gaugino-pair production at hadron colliders
We present a first precision analysis of the transverse-momentum spectrum of
gaugino pairs produced at the Tevatron and the LHC with center-of-mass energies
of 1.96 and 10 or 14 TeV, respectively. Our calculation is based on a universal
resummation formalism at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, which is
consistently matched to the perturbative prediction at .
Numerical results are given for the "gold-plated" associated production of
neutralinos and charginos decaying into three charged leptons with missing
transverse energy as well as for the pair production of neutralinos and
charginos at two typical benchmark points in the constrained Minimal
Supersymmetric Standard Model. We show that the matched resummation results
differ considerably from the Monte Carlo predictions employed traditionally in
experimental analyses and discuss the impact on the determination of
supersymmetric mass parameters from derived transverse-mass spectra. We also
investigate in detail the theoretical uncertainties coming from scale and
parton-density function variations and non-perturbative effects.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, version accepted by Phys. Lett.
Discourse in various contexts
This paper aims to situate the various areas of discourse analysis with respect to general typological or intersecting characteristics, and to Úxtend our apprehension of «true meaning» as far as possible. It suggests that unacceptable phrases and paralinguistic elements can be included in semantics, and that non-spontaneous cited or transcribed discourse can be considered alongside spontaneous oral and written discourse. A distinction is made between the «producer» (who is «responsible») and the «emitter»; between the «addressee» (who is deliberately targeted) and the «receiver». The emitter is often citing a third party, while the addressee is often non-specific or accidental. Provision is made for conflictual relationships between speakers (claiming the right to speak in public) and messages with pseudo addressees, which give the function of expression priority over the function of communication. The phatic function merely maintains a relationship between speakers which is detrimental to meaning, just as violence may ensue when intercomprehension breaks down
Joint Resummation for Gaugino Pair Production at Hadron Colliders
We calculate direct gaugino pair production at hadron colliders at
next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD, resumming simultaneously large
logarithms in the small transverse-momentum and threshold regions to
next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. Numerical predictions are presented for
transverse momentum and invariant mass spectra as well as for total cross
sections and compared to results obtained at fixed order and with pure
transverse-momentum and threshold resummation. We find that our new results are
in general in good agreement with the previous ones, but often even more
precise.Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures, 1 tabl
A Revaluation of Learning Practices in Indian Classical Music Using Technological Tools
Each khyÄl performance of Indian classical music is unique and unreproducible because it is mainly based on improvisation. As for most orally transmitted musical repertoires, learning practices are essential as they guarantee that the musical codes are properly reproduced from one generation to another. In Indian classical music, practice, tightly imbricated in the pupil â teacher relation, favors clearly the imitation. Students tend to reproduce more or less successfully their masterâs style. Thatâs why in order to be creative, it is necessary that each musician develops his own skills of understanding, experimentation and invention. Today, technological tools have considerably transformed our way of learning. From now on, it is possible to have access to considerable data for the understanding of traditional music, and to listen, record and analyse them via numerous audio softwares. Indeed, works by visualization allows reporting knowhow common to all these musics (fingering, musical process, improvisation, patternsâŠ). Through various softwares and practice examples from Rajamâs dynasty (hindustani violinist players), hindustani violin lessons and rÄg performances, we will present a âtoolboxâ useful for all musicians and musicologist to improve their self-study. If the pedagogy and teaching can give us comprehension keys, the apprenticeship, such as it is practiced in North India and in the long master to pupilâs tradition, favors clearly the imitation at the expanse of the assimilation. The pupil learns above all by imitation and by impregnation, without taking the time to understand or to write. He learns to know a number of ingredients, but does not inevitably learn how to use it. In this way, the pupil tends inexorably to reproduce with varying degrees of acuteness the masterâs style. His space of creativity is extremely reduced even non-existent. The musician will feel difficulties finding his own style. For that purpose, it is necessary to him to be able to stand back, to be able to experiment, invent and understand. The technological tools really transformed our way of learning in our daily practice. So the analysis via a number of IT data and software allows to understand and to learn musical processes, specific ornamentations, rarely taught. In addition, it is possible to question the relationship between what is taught by the master and what is produced on stage. Through the comparison of different performances, different performers and different learning lessons, one can clearly dissociates the stored material from the improvised material, i.e. the fixed components from the modular elements. This current work
aims to study this question, focusing on different rÄg according to the vocal tradition of khyÄl within the Rajamâs Dynasty, violinist descendants. In this communication, we investigate the possibility of using modern computer-based technologies as a teaching assistance system for Indian classical music. Due to its improvisation nature, a comparative approach is necessary to analyse it. For example, by comparing recordings between Hindustani violin lessons at the Hubli- Gurukul (India, August 2010-2012) and Hindustani rÄg performances, it is possible to show up the way(s) Rajam Dynasty musicians transform the structural and structuring1 elements of a rÄg. At a larger scale of analysis, by multiplying the interpreters on a same rÄg, we could quantitatively compare their different improvisation strategies, and better understanding the fundamental elements of a rÄg that need to be properly taught to every musician
Threshold resummation for gaugino pair production at hadron colliders
We present a complete analysis of threshold resummation effects on direct
light and heavy gaugino pair production at the Tevatron and the LHC. Based on a
new perturbative calculation at next-to-leading order of SUSY-QCD, which
includes also squark mixing effects, we resum soft gluon radiation in the
threshold region at leading and next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, retaining
at the same time the full SUSY-QCD corrections in the finite coefficient
function. This allows us to correctly match the resummed to the perturbative
cross section. Universal subleading logarithms are resummed in full matrix
form. We find that threshold resummation slightly increases and considerably
stabilizes the invariant mass spectra and total cross sections with respect to
the next-to-leading order calculation. For future reference, we present total
cross sections and their theoretical errors in tabular form for several
commonly used SUSY benchmark points, gaugino pairs, and hadron collider
energies.Comment: 28 pages, 5 tables, 17 figure
Gaugino production in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV
Motivated by hints for a light Standard Model-like Higgs boson and a shift in
experimental attention towards electroweak supersymmetry particle production at
the CERN LHC, we update in this paper our precision predictions at
next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD matched to resummation at the
next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy for direct gaugino pair production in
proton-proton collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. Tables of total
cross sections are presented together with the corresponding scale and parton
density uncertainties for benchmark points adopted recently by the experimental
collaborations, and figures are presented for up-to-date model lines attached
to them. Since the experimental analyses are currently obtained with parton
showers matched to multi-parton matrix elements, we also analyze the precision
of this procedure by comparing invariant-mass and transverse-momentum
distributions obtained in this way to those obtained with threshold and
transverse-momentum resummation.Comment: 28 pages, 7 figures, 9 tables; version to appear in JHE
Proactive inhibition is not modified by deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease: An electrical neuroimaging study.
In predictable contexts, motor inhibitory control can be deployed before the actual need for response suppression. The brain functional underpinnings of proactive inhibition, and notably the role of basal ganglia, are not entirely identified. We investigated the effects of deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus or internal globus pallidus on proactive inhibition in patients with Parkinson's disease. They completed a cued go/no-go proactive inhibition task ON and (unilateral) OFF stimulation while EEG was recorded. We found no behavioural effect of either subthalamic nucleus or internal globus pallidus deep brain stimulation on proactive inhibition, despite a general improvement of motor performance with subthalamic nucleus stimulation. In the non-operated and subthalamic nucleus group, we identified periods of topographic EEG modulation by the level of proactive inhibition. In the subthalamic nucleus group, source estimation analysis suggested the initial involvement of bilateral frontal and occipital areas, followed by a right lateralized fronto-basal network, and finally of right premotor and left parietal regions. Our results confirm the overall preservation of proactive inhibition capacities in both subthalamic nucleus and internal globus pallidus deep brain stimulation, and suggest a partly segregated network for proactive inhibition, with a preferential recruitment of the indirect pathway
Programming of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation for Parkinsonâs disease with sweet spot-guided parameter suggestions
Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is an effective treatment for advanced Parkinsonâs disease. However, identifying stimulation parameters, such as contact and current amplitudes, is time-consuming based on trial and error. Directional leads add more stimulation options and render this process more challenging with a higher workload for neurologists and more discomfort for patients. In this study, a sweet spot-guided algorithm was developed that automatically suggested stimulation parameters. These suggestions were retrospectively compared to clinical monopolar reviews. A cohort of 24 Parkinsonâs disease patients underwent bilateral DBS implantation in the subthalamic nucleus at our center. First, the DBSâ leads were reconstructed with the open-source toolbox Lead-DBS. Second, a sweet spot for rigidity reduction was set as the desired stimulation target for programming. This sweet spot and estimations of the volume of tissue activated were used to suggest (i) the best lead level, (ii) the best contact, and (iii) the effect thresholds for full therapeutic effect for each contact. To assess these sweet spot-guided suggestions, the clinical monopolar reviews were considered as ground truth. In addition, the sweet spot-guided suggestions for best lead level and best contact were compared against reconstruction-guided suggestions, which considered the lead location with respect to the subthalamic nucleus. Finally, a graphical user interface was developed as an add-on to Lead-DBS and is publicly available. With the interface, suggestions for all contacts of a lead can be generated in a few seconds. The accuracy for suggesting the best out of four lead levels was 56%. These sweet spot-guided suggestions were not significantly better than reconstruction-guided suggestions (p = 0.3). The accuracy for suggesting the best out of eight contacts was 41%. These sweet spot-guided suggestions were significantly better than reconstruction-guided suggestions (p < 0.001). The sweet spot-guided suggestions of each contactâs effect threshold had a mean error of 1.2 mA. On an individual lead level, the suggestions can vary more with mean errors ranging from 0.3 to 4.8 mA. Further analysis is warranted to improve the sweet spot-guided suggestions and to account for more symptoms and stimulation-induced side effects
