Reflections on policies which guide English language teaching to the deaf in Brazil / Reflexões sobre políticas que orientam o ensino de inglês para surdos no Brasil

Although the discussion about Brazilian education and language policies has been gaining ground in research, the issue of teaching a foreign language to deaf people still does not seem to occupy due space in the concern of researchers. In this sense, we intend to outline reflections about the teaching of the English language for deaf people in Brazil, investigating (in) congruences between what the official texts propose. To achieve our goal, we based our discussions on Bhaskar (1998), Luke (2009), Moutinho (2016), Quadros (2017), Moraes (2018) and Tílio (2019), among others. The adopted methodology followed the guidelines of Gil (2010) for bibliographic and documentary research. For the exploratory/qualitative discussion, we approach official documents about deafness and English language teaching. The data point to an erasure of the differences in documents that guide the teaching of English to the deaf and to the fact that there are no favourable conditions for the full linguistic development of the deaf

A Socio-Emancipatory Perspective on the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language to the Deaf

The objective of this research was to draw, in the light of Critical Realism (CR) and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), some interdisciplinary reflections that could contribute to an emancipatory perspective in the teaching of English language for the deaf. The challenge, it seems to us, is to look for mechanisms and causal powers in an attempt to overcome obstacles in the classroom, at school. Teachers’ fight in defence of quality teaching of the English language to the deaf and of pedagogical activities that contribute to the (self)emancipation of these students revealed that these teachers are active causal agents in the emancipation process. We expect to contribute to English-language teaching and learning to the deaf, bringing a socio-emancipatory outlook on this process. Quantification of 4-nerolidylcatechol from Pothomorphe umbellata (Piperaceae) in rat plasma samples by HPLC-UV

O 4-nerolidilcatecol representa o metabólito secundário mais abundante de Pothomorphe umbellata (Piperaceae), cujo uso terapêutico deve ser fundamentado após a caracterização farmacocinética do mesmo (4-nerolidicatecol). Os níveis séricos de animais tratados com 10 mg/kg do fármaco i.v. foram avaliados por validação analítica em CLAE-UV. As condições cromatográficas empregadas foram fase móvel de acetonitrila:metanol:água (62:20:18), coluna RP-18, fluxo de 1,6 mL/min e detector UV em 282 nm, com tempo total de corrida inferior a 15 minutos. Observou-se linearidade do 4-NRC em plasmas na faixa de 1,0 a 80,0 mcg/mL, com valores de precisão e exatidão entre 14,4-3,0% e 24,0-0,2%, respectivamente. O procedimento de extração líquido-líquido apresentou reprodutível e com recuperação quantitativa (106,5%±3,0%).The oral dosages formulations from Pothomorphe umbellata (Piperaceae) can only be therapeutically evaluated after establishing 4-nerolidylcatechol (4-NRC) pharmacokinetic profile in plasma. For that purpose, a unique analytical method validation using HPLC-UV detection was developed for analysis of rat plasma samples. The animals received 10 mg/kg b.w. of 4-NRC i.v.. Analytical conditions were set with C18 column, methanol: acetonitrile: water (62:20:18) as mobile phase, and a flow rate of 1.6 mL/min. The assay was linear from 1.0 - 80.0 mcg/mL. The recovery procedure was performed by liquid-liquid extraction showing quantitative extraction (106.4±8.7%). Limit of Quantification (LOQ) was found to be 1.0 mcg/mL. Interassay precision and accuracy ranged from values of 14.4-3.0% and 24.0-0.2%, respectively. Recovery after liquid-liquid extraction was found to be 106.5 ± 3%. The method is simple and reliable with total run time of less than 15 min

Para tanto, explora as categorias da contemporaneidade que estão presentes na constituição histórica e epistemológica desta ciência. Busca compreender, a partir dos paradigmas físico, social e cognitivo de Rafael Capurro, a origem da falta de consenso acerca do marco histórico e epistemológico que ronda a Ciência da Informação, a partir das categorias da Nova Física. Conclui apontando para a necessidade de novos modelos de formação na área das Ciências da Informação que atente para as complexidades do momento contemporâneo
