Residential Mobility of Older Adults in the Dutch Housing Market: Do Individual Characteristics and Housing Attributes Have an Effect on Mobility?
The ageing of the population will change many societies in unprecedented ways. The changing age composition does not only create a burden on existing income systems and health care systems, but also affects the geographical mobility of populations. The objective of this paper is to provide some first insights into the moving behaviour of older adults in the Netherlands. By using data of the Housing Research Netherlands (HRN) 2009 survey, it was possible to investigate whether or not later-life residential mobility is influenced by individual characteristics and housing attributes. The responses of migrants and non-migrants are compared by conducting several two-way-chi-square analyses. The results of these descriptive analyses demonstrate that migrants indeed differ from non-migrants and that these differences are mostly related to housing attributes
Determinants of the innovative ability of SMEs
Demonstration of a stream reasoning platform on low-end devices to enable personalized real-time cycling feedback
During amateur cycling training, analyzing sensor data in real-time would allow riders to receive immediate feedback on how they are performing, and adapt their training accordingly. In this paper, a solution with Semantic Web technologies is presented that gives such real-time personalized feedback, by integrating the data streams with domain knowledge, rider profiles {\&} other context data. This solution consists of a stream reasoning engine running on a low-end Raspberry Pi device, and a tablet app showing feedback based on the continuous query results. To demonstrate this in a static environment, a virtual training app is presented, allowing a user to simulate an amateur cycling training
Binomial collisions and near collisions
We describe efficient algorithms to search for cases in which binomial
coefficients are equal or almost equal, give a conjecturally complete list of
all cases where two binomial coefficients differ by 1, and give some identities
for binomial coefficients that seem to be new.Comment: 7 page
Magnetic-field symmetries of mesoscopic nonlinear conductance
We examine contributions to the dc-current of mesoscopic samples which are
non-linear in applied voltage. In the presence of a magnetic field, the current
can be decomposed into components which are odd (antisymmetric) and even
(symmetric) under flux reversal. For a two-terminal chaotic cavity, these
components turn out to be very sensitive to the strength of the Coulomb
interaction and the asymmetry of the contact conductances. For both two- and
multi-terminal quantum dots we discuss correlations of current non-linearity in
voltage measured at different magnetic fields and temperatures.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure
On the relationship between firm age and productivity growth
For young firms, a clear relationship exists between firm age and productivity. Various studies have shown that the productivity level of new firms is below the average level, while the productivity growth rate of (surviving) young firms is above average. During the first few years, the average level of productivity tends to increase while the average growth rate tends to decrease. For elder, established firms, the relationship between age and productivity becomes less clear. Established firms show on average a positive growth rate, but whether this growth rate is related to the specific age of these firms is not well established. In this study we examine the relationship between the age of firms and their productivity growth, for establishes firms, where establishes firms are defined as firms of at least 10 years of age. Our research question is: to which extent are differences in productivity growth rates between individual firms related to firm age?
Sustainable resins for single-use technologies
The healthcare industry is a focus segment for SABIC as a materials supplier. Growing our presence requires a thorough understanding of our customers’ challenges and requirements. In addition to ensuring high quality products and complying with applicable regulations, there is an increasing demand around sustainability. SABIC has developed high quality certified renewable and recycled materials, which respond to the industry’s need for consistency and predictability while assisting in reduced carbon emissions. In this presentation, we will discuss the approach to generate such polyolefins and engineering resins and the implications for the user
