Very low level mosaicism of trisomy 13 in prenatal diagnosis: Who should decide?

Phenotypic outcome and clinical effect of mosaic of trisomy 13 is not clear yet. Eventhough, there is a suggested relationship between the percentage of mosaicism and clinical appreance, literature reports a wide range of possibilities from normal intelligence to as severe as full. This makes genetic counselling after prenatal diagnosis of mosaic 13 particularly difficult. A 27 year old pregnant with normal serum screening result for Down's syndrome is admitted. Amniocentesis was performed due to mother anxiety Cytogenetic analysis and FISH was performed. Four out of 30 metaphases had trisomy 13 from first culture and FISH analysis performed from amniotic fluid cell culture and cord blood. Two out of 250 from amniocentesis and 3 out of 500 from cord blood metaphases had trisomy 13. Conclusion: We here report a case of mosaic trisomy 13 in which high risk of prenatal screening, prenatal ultrasound abnormalities were not observed and post-mortem histo-pathological examination was normal.Genetic counselling was not straightforward and family decided to end the pregnancy.Phenotypic outcome and clinical effect of mosaic of trisomy 13 is not clear yet. Flow structure and fish passage performance of a brush-type fish way: a field study in the yidere River, Turkey

Toreyin, Behcet Ugur/0000-0003-4406-2783WOS: 000493383100013The fish passage performance and flow structure of a brush fish pass were investigated at the ncirli Small Hydropower Plant on the yidere River, located in the East Black Sea region of Turkey. the spatial distributions of velocity vectors, power velocity, Froude number and turbulent kinetic energy are presented. the flow is quasi-uniform and subcritical, which provides different migration corridors with favourable hydraulic conditions; importantly for the fish, these corridors continue through the complete fish pass. the flow-bristle interaction creates a reduced velocity and low-turbulence resting zones. in addition, the passage efficiency of the brush fish pass was assessed using passive integrated transponder telemetry. the results clearly showed that upstream passage efficiency differs between fish species: Salmo coruhensis performed better than Alburnoides fasciatus on the same fish passage. the passage efficiency for the target fish species S. coruhensis was calculated to be 82.4%. the data revealed that the brush fish passage provides passage for small-bodied fish (total body length <15 cm) in a high-gradient channel with a slope of 10%. the monitoring data revealed that bristles as flexible hydraulic elements are beneficial for migrating fish.Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey under a Scientific and Technological Research Projects Funding Program grant (1001 TUBITAK)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [315M019]This work was supported by the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey under a Scientific and Technological Research Projects Funding Program grant (1001 TUBITAK; Agreement number 315M019)
