Energy-Conserving Lattice Boltzmann Thermal Model in Two Dimensions
A discrete velocity model is presented for lattice Boltzmann thermal fluid dynamics.
This model is implemented and tested in two dimensions with a finite difference scheme. Comparison with analytical solutions shows an excellent agreement even for wide temperature differences. An alternative approximate approach is then presented for traditional lattice transport schemes
When Hosts Disclose Their Private Information on Accommodation Sharing Platforms: An Information Commercialization Perspective
The proliferation of the Internet and platform economy has given rise to the sharing economy as a popular business model. While much research has focused on the economic and social benefits aspect, privacy issue in sharing economy is often overlooked. Drawing on the privacy calculus theory and the literature of information-as-a-commodity perspective, this study focuses on accommodation sharing platform Airbnb and aims to investigate the critical role of hosts’ information commercialization in leading to their private information disclosure behavior on the platform. This study fills in the research gap by theorizing the concept of information commercialization in accommodation sharing platforms and addressing its formation mechanisms and behavioral outcome

Hypergeometric-Gaussian Modes
We studied a novel family of paraxial laser beams forming an overcomplete yet
nonorthogonal set of modes. These modes have a singular phase profile and are
eigenfunctions of the photon orbital angular momentum. The intensity profile is
characterized by a single brilliant ring with the singularity at its center,
where the field amplitude vanishes. The complex amplitude is proportional to
the degenerate (confluent) hypergeometric function, and therefore we term such
beams hypergeometric gaussian (HyGG) modes. Unlike the recently introduced
hypergeometric modes (Opt. Lett. {\textbf 32}, 742 (2007)), the HyGG modes
carry a finite power and have been generated in this work with a liquid-crystal
spatial light modulator. We briefly consider some sub-families of the HyGG
modes as the modified Bessel Gaussian modes, the modified exponential Gaussian
modes and the modified Laguerre-Gaussian modes

Assessment of China's virtual air pollution transport embodied in trade by using a consumption-based emission inventory
Substantial anthropogenic emissions from China have resulted in serious air pollution, and this has generated considerable academic and public concern. The physical transport of air pollutants in the atmosphere has been extensively investigated; however, understanding the mechanisms how the pollutant was transferred through economic and trade activities remains a challenge. For the first time, we quantified and tracked China's air pollutant emission flows embodied in interprovincial trade, using a multiregional input - output model framework. Trade relative emissions for four key air pollutants (primary fine particle matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and non-methane volatile organic compounds) were assessed for 2007 in each Chinese province. We found that emissions were significantly redistributed among provinces owing to interprovincial trade. Large amounts of emissions were embodied in the imports of eastern regions from northern and central regions, and these were determined by differences in regional economic status and environmental policy. It is suggested that measures should be introduced to reduce air pollution by integrating cross-regional consumers and producers within national agreements to encourage efficiency improvement in the supply chain and optimize consumption structure internationally. The consumption-based air pollutant emission inventory developed in this work can be further used to attribute pollution to various economic activities and final demand types with the aid of air quality models
Learning To Rank Diversely At Airbnb
Airbnb is a two-sided marketplace, bringing together hosts who own listings
for rent, with prospective guests from around the globe. Applying neural
network-based learning to rank techniques has led to significant improvements
in matching guests with hosts. These improvements in ranking were driven by a
core strategy: order the listings by their estimated booking probabilities,
then iterate on techniques to make these booking probability estimates more and
more accurate. Embedded implicitly in this strategy was an assumption that the
booking probability of a listing could be determined independently of other
listings in search results. In this paper we discuss how this assumption,
pervasive throughout the commonly-used learning to rank frameworks, is false.
We provide a theoretical foundation correcting this assumption, followed by
efficient neural network architectures based on the theory. Explicitly
accounting for possible similarities between listings, and reducing them to
diversify the search results generated strong positive impact. We discuss these
metric wins as part of the online A/B tests of the theory. Our method provides
a practical way to diversify search results for large-scale production ranking
systems.Comment: Search ranking, Diversity, e-commerc
