P-adic Asai L-functions of Bianchi modular forms
The Asai (or twisted tensor) -function of a Bianchi modular form is
the -function attached to the tensor induction to of its
associated Galois representation. In this paper, when is ordinary at
we construct a -adic analogue of this -function: that is, a -adic
measure on that interpolates the critical values of the
Asai -function twisted by Dirichlet characters of -power conductor. The
construction uses techniques analogous to those used by Lei, Zerbes and the
first author in order to construct an Euler system attached to the Asai
representation of a quadratic Hilbert modular form.Comment: Final version, to appear in Algebra & Number Theor
Globule transitions of a single homopolymer: a Wang-Landau Monte Carlo study
The temperature-independent Wang-Landau Monte Carlo approach is implemented for an off-lattice model of flexible homopolymers and applied to the coil-globule and solidification transitions based on chain sizes up to N=300. An intermediate transformation from low-density liquid globule to high-density liquid globule is suggested. A scheme for identifying polymer structures representative of particular temperatures in the course of the simulation is presented and applied to illustrate intermediate states in the coil-globule transition. Transition temperatures are calculated and used to obtain a theta point of at least Θ=1.96, distinctly higher than the solid-liquid transition temperature TM=1.26
Fuel penalties and time flexibility of 4D flight profiles under mismodeled wind conditions
A parametric sensitivity study was conducted to evaluate time flexibility and fuel penalties associated with 4D operations in the presence of mismodeled wind. The final cruise and descent segments of a flight in an advanced time-metered air traffic control environment were considered. Optimal performance of a B-737-100 airplane in known, constant winds was determined. Performance in mismodeled wind was obtained by tracking no-wind reference profiles in the presence of actual winds. The results of the analysis are presented in terms of loss of time flexibility and fuel penalties compared to the optimum performance in modeled winds

Manufacturing Metallic Parts with Designed Mesostructure via Three-Dimensional Printing of Metal Oxide Powder
Cellular materials, metallic bodies with gaseous voids, are a promising class of materials that offer
high strength accompanied by a relatively low mass. In this paper, the authors investigate the use of ThreeDimensional Printing (3DP) to manufacture metallic cellular materials by selectively printing binder into a
bed of metal oxide ceramic powder. The resulting green part undergoes a thermal chemical post-process in
order to convert it to metal. As a result of their investigation, the authors are able to create cellular
materials made of maraging steel that feature wall sizes as small as 400 µm and angled trusses and channels
that are 1 mm in diameter.Mechanical Engineerin
Updated analysis of the dynamical relation between asteroid 2003 EH1 and comets C/1490 Y1 and C/1385 U1
The asteroid 2003 EH1, proposed as the parent body of the Quadrantid meteor
shower, is thought to be the remnant of a past cometary object, tentatively
identified with the historical comets C/1490 Y1 and C/1385 U1. In the present
work we use recovery astrometry to extend the observed arc of 2003 EH1 from 10
months to about 5 years, enough to exclude the proposed direct relationship of
the asteroid with both of the comets.Comment: Submitted to Monthly Notices of the RAS Letters Updated with a new
