    Informative Function in the Contents of Preachers’ Sermons in Jayapura Churches

    Informative function has function to represents one’s understanding of fact and knowledge, to communicate information, and to deliver message. In sermons’ preachers in GKI churches of Jayapura give view that language in theological context can be elaborated with local education/wisdom in Sentani.  This study tries to figure out micro function of informative function used by the preacher in educating their congregation. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative with the technique of recording. The data was transcribed and then reduced. The reduction data then was indexed into table as data displayed. The analysis of data was done based on the elements and features of language used in informative function. The results show that the micro functions of informative function used by the preachers are to give advice, to lecture, to announce, and to give opinion. These micro functions are framed in true values, facts, and historical traces. Further action is also facilitated by the level of acceptance or understanding among the congregations. The acceptance is proved by four elements such as language use, context, point of discussion, and attitude. Fortunately these four elements show the positive respond by the congregations

    O carcinoma de células escamosas do canal anal é uma malignidade rara que representa 1,5% a 2% de todos os cânceres do trato gastrointestinal inferior. Entretanto, é observada uma incidência aumentada do carcinoma anal invasivo, na população soropositiva para o HIV desde a difusão da terapia antirretroviral altamente ativa. O vírus do papiloma está fortemente associado com a patogênese do câncer anal. Sexo anal e um alto número de parceiros sexuais parecem ser os fatores de risco para desenvolver câncer anal em ambos os sexos. Dor anal, sangramento e lesão palpável no canal anal são as manifestações clínicas mais comuns. O ultrassom endoanal é o melhor método diagnóstico para avaliar o tamanho do tumor, sua extensão e a infiltração para o complexo do músculo esfincteriano. A quimioradioterapia mais terapia antirretroviral é o tratamento recomendado para todos os estádios do carcinoma localizado de células escamosas do canal anal nos pacientes HIV soropositivos, devido a sua alta taxa de cura. Apresentamos um paciente que desenvolveu carcinoma do canal anal depois de um longo tempo de infecção por HIV sob tratamento com a terapia antirretroviral altamente ativa, com boa resposta virológica e imunológica.Squamous anal cell carcinoma is a rare malignancy that represents the 1.5% to 2% of all the lower digestive tract cancers. However, an increased incidence of invasive anal carcinoma is observed in HIV-seropositive population since the widespread of highly active antiretroviral therapy. Human papillomavirus is strongly associated with the pathogenesis of anal cancer. Anal intercourse and a high number of sexual partners appear to be risk factors to develop anal cancer in both sexes. Anal pain, bleeding and a palpable lesion in the anal canal are the most common clinical features. Endo-anal ultrasound is the best diagnosis method to evaluate the tumor size, the tumor extension and the infiltration of the sphincter muscle complex. Chemoradiotherapy plus antiretroviral therapy are the recommended treatments for all stages of localized squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal in HIV-seropositive patients because of its high rate of cure.     Prognosis of metastatic giant cell tumor of bone in the pre-denosumab era. A systematic review and a meta-analysis

    Background: Data on long-term prognosis of metastatic GCT (mGCT) is scant. The frequency of spontaneous regressions (SRs) is unknown. We aimed to estimate the prognosis of mGCT. Methods: We searched electronic scientific literature databases and generic Internet from January 1980 to August 2017. After identifying eligible studies we performed descriptive analyses and meta-analyses to estimate overall survival (OS), disease specific survival (DSS) and frequency of SRs in the years before the widespread use of denosumab. We performed pre-specified subgroup analyses of studies published before and after 2000 and of those with more and less than 10 years of follow-up. Results: After retrieving and combining data from 26 relevant retrospective case-series totaling 242 patients with a median follow-up of 6.9 years, the estimated pooled OS was 86.9% (95% CI 78.0-94.2). Pooled DSS was 88.0% (95% CI 79.7-94.7). SRs were observed in 4.5% of patients. In the subgroup of studies published after 2000 mGCT was the only cause of death of affected subjects. In case-series with a follow-up longer than 10 years pooled DSS was 69.7% (95% CI 25.5-99.8). Conclusions: To our knowledge this is the first study to derive estimated pooled OS and DSS of mGCT based on a large dataset. SRs were not exceptional phenomena.     5Gen: A Framework for Prototyping Applications Using Multilinear Maps and Matrix Branching Programs

    Secure multilinear maps (mmaps) have been shown to have remarkable applications in cryptography, such as program obfuscation and multi-input functional encryption (MIFE). To date, there has been little evaluation of the performance of these applications. In this paper we initiate a systematic study of mmap-based constructions. We build a general framework, called 5Gen, to experiment with these applications. At the top layer we develop an optimizing compiler that takes in a high-level program and compiles it to an optimized matrix branching program needed for the applications we consider. Next, we optimize and experiment with several obfuscators and MIFE constructions and evaluate their performance. The 5Gen framework is modular and can easily accommodate new mmap constructions as well as new obfuscators and MIFE constructions. 5Gen is an open-source tool that can be used by other research groups to experiment with a variety of mmap-based constructions

    Somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration capacity in Argentinean maize ( Zea mays L.) inbred lines

    Somatic embryogenesis, which is still the method of choice for tissue culture, regeneration and transformation of maize, is largely considered highly genotype-dependent. The Hi II, a highly embryogenic genotype, has been extensively used in transformation protocols. However, this is not an inbred line; instead, it has a proportion of the undesirable A-188 background, and the progeny segregates for phenotypic characteristics and shows poor agronomic performance. In an effort to identify genotypes that combine a high somatic embryogenic response and good agronomic performance, we evaluated 48 advanced inbred lines developed at INTA. Callus development and somatic embryogenesis capacity were measured in 200 immature embryos per line. Embryogenic capacity [EC (mature somatic embryos/callus evaluated) x 100], Regeneration Capacity (RC) and Fertile Plant Recovery in greenhouse (FPR, fertile plants/regenerated plants) were recorded. A total of 17 lines reached an EC > 50%, and 14 out of those 17 lines regenerated seedlings. The FPR ranged between 50 and 100%. Also, we selected three promising lines with high agronomic performance, as alternatives to Hi II, in order to be included in a maize transformation scheme via somatic embryogenesis. In addition, we report the usefulness of Single Sequences Repeat (SSRs) in the determination of genetic diversity among 14 divergent lines for somatic embryogenesis response. The seven lines displaying good in vitro behaviour can be crossed to obtain hybrids combining desirable alleles for somatic embryogenesis response and different genetic backgrounds

    Circulating microRNAs in sera correlate with soluble biomarkers of immune activation but do not predict mortality in ART treated individuals with HIV-1 infection: A case control study

    Introduction: The use of anti-retroviral therapy (ART) has dramatically reduced HIV-1 associated morbidity and mortality. However, HIV-1 infected individuals have increased rates of morbidity and mortality compared to the non-HIV-1 infected population and this appears to be related to end-organ diseases collectively referred to as Serious Non-AIDS Events (SNAEs). Circulating miRNAs are reported as promising biomarkers for a number of human disease conditions including those that constitute SNAEs. Our study sought to investigate the potential of selected miRNAs in predicting mortality in HIV-1 infected ART treated individuals. Materials and Methods: A set of miRNAs was chosen based on published associations with human disease conditions that constitute SNAEs. This case: control study compared 126 cases (individuals who died whilst on therapy), and 247 matched controls (individuals who remained alive). Cases and controls were ART treated participants of two pivotal HIV-1 trials. The relative abundance of each miRNA in serum was measured, by RTqPCR. Associations with mortality (all-cause, cardiovascular and malignancy) were assessed by logistic regression analysis. Correlations between miRNAs and CD4+ T cell count, hs-CRP, IL-6 and D-dimer were also assessed. Results: None of the selected miRNAs was associated with all-cause, cardiovascular or malignancy mortality. The levels of three miRNAs (miRs -21, -122 and -200a) correlated with IL-6 while miR-21 also correlated with D-dimer. Additionally, the abundance of miRs -31, -150 and -223, correlated with baseline CD4+ T cell count while the same three miRNAs plus miR- 145 correlated with nadir CD4+ T cell count. Discussion: No associations with mortality were found with any circulating miRNA studied. These results cast doubt onto the effectiveness of circulating miRNA as early predictors of mortality or the major underlying diseases that contribute to mortality in participants treated for HIV-1 infection
