Contemporary French Fiction In and Out of Screens

This essay explores the ways in which the widespread craze for reality TV has now extended its contamination to the comparatively more traditional discipline of literature. Today, there is no use denying that, acknowledging, and internalizing, the American domination in the creation of reality shows, French television has followed suit and, as a result of the cultural flooding of such a model, recent French literature has also been swayed by the empire of television in general, and the power of reality TV in particular. The author delineates the increasingly porous frontier separating and conjoining reality TV and literary representation, questions the adoption and consecration of banality as the basic principle of this porosity, and examines the consequences of such a sustained exposure to images of a trite reality on the quality of traditional cultural artifacts such as books. Among other aspects of this transfer, the essay focuses on the effect of the strange and voyeuristic interdependence of cameras, men and their plain reality. Ultimately, the essay wonders why, in all forms of cultural representation, high or low, a spectacle of great banality has now been elevated to the rank of acclaimed cultural production

Biomass energy as a possibility for innovative agriculture initiatives

In searching for sustainable solutions for humans’ necessities, clean and safe energy possibilities have been pursued. The objective of this research is to develop a procedure that improves the integration of renewable technologies into local planning processes. The methodology should be suitable for different contexts. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the potential of energy production through agricultural waste, ensuring the sustainability and development of clean technologies, the ideal allocation of the energy production unit, and the costs involved in the enterprise. The research hypothesis is that the potential for sustainable use of biomass can be identified and evaluated, thus showing the way for an improved energy plan for Brazil. The study area is within the Doce River Basin in Brazil. The methods developed in the study could be relevant for municipalities to record their potentials for energy production and pursue investments and local arrangements, promoting sustainable biomass energy generation. The results show that with proper investment, the energy generation through biomass residues could be viable and pay itself in a short amount of time, moreover in a scenario where the agricultural area is increased, growing the power generation capacity of a biomass power plant. The current agricultural production would cover 20% of the local energy demand

Ethnography of individuals in psychological distress

OBJETIVO: Analisar como pessoas com doenças mentais vivenciam suas necessidades especiais e interagem com a comunidade local nos espaços públicos urbanos. METODOLOGIA: Pesquisa realizada na cidade de Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, utilizando como abordagem teórico-metodológica a etnografia. A partir de estudo de um sujeito, buscou-se compreender o que caracteriza as pessoas como doentes mentais e como as adversidades decorrentes de seus quadros mentais não as impossibilitam de construir circuitos, trajetos e redes sociais no espaço urbano. RESULTADOS E CONCLUSÕES: O estudo identificou os processos de subjetivação dos sujeitos no espaço da cidade. Uma vez que os serviços de saúde reconhecem esses sujeitos, podem criar formas de intervenção mais adequadas às suas necessidades especiais.OBJECTIVE: To asses how people with mental disorders experience their special needs and interact with the community in public urban places. METHODOLOGY: The research was performed in the city of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, using ethnography as the theoretical methodological approach. As of the study of one subject, the objective was to understand what characterizes people as mentally sick and how the adversities of their mental picture do not prevent them from building circuits, paths, and social networks with the urban space. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: It was identified the subjectivity processes of subjects in the spaces of the city. Since health services recognized these individuals, it is possible to create interventions which are more suitable to their special needs

Evolution signatures in genome network properties

Genomes maybe organized as networks where protein-protein association plays the role of network links. The resulting networks are far from being random and their topological properties are a consequence of the underlying mechanisms for genome evolution. Considering data on protein-protein association networks from STRING database, we present experimental evidence that degree distribution is not scale free, presenting an increased probability for high degree nodes. We also show that the degree distribution approaches a scale invariant state as the number of genes in the network increases, although real genomes still present finite size effects. Based on the experimental evidence unveiled by these data analyses, we propose a simulation model for genome evolution, where genes in a network are either acquired de novo using a preferential attachment rule, or duplicated, with a duplication probability that linearly grows with gene degree and decreases with its clustering coefficient. The results show that topological distributions are better described than in previous genome evolution models. This model correctly predicts that, in order to produce protein-protein association networks with number of links and number of nodes in the observed range, it is necessary 90% of gene duplication and 10% of de novo gene acquisition. If this scenario is true, it implies a universal mechanism for genome evolution

Formação docente por meio da extensão: oficina de teorias da aprendizagem para professores da educação básica

Trabalho apresentado no 31º SEURS - Seminário de Extensão Universitária da Região Sul, realizado em Florianópolis, SC, no período de 04 a 07 de agosto de 2013 - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.O projeto visou a construção, por parte de professores da educação básica da rede pública e licenciandos, de propostas de ensino, a serem aplicadas nas aulas dos frequentadores da oficina, que levem em conta premissas de três Teorias de Aprendizagem: a teoria da Aprendizagem Significativa de David Ausubel, a teoria da mediação de Vigotski e a teoria da Aprendizagem Significativa Crítica de Marco Antônio Moreira. Acreditamos na relevância deste tipo de projeto, quando se sabe que muitos professores carecem de um olhar estruturado sobre sua prática ou sobre esta teoria. Algumas ferramentas e estratégias de ensino, como os mapas conceituais e a utilização de organizador prévio, foram abordadas, de modo a trazer alternativas para as práticas docentes dos participantes da oficina

Participação social, controle social da administração pública e democracia participativa

Consiste inicialmente em ordenar e distinguir alguns dos elementos indispensáveis para a redação anterior, estes: Estado, Governo e Administração o que seja o regime jurídico administrativo, as pregorrativas e restrições. Em uma apertada síntese, verificar o Controle genérico da Administração Pública e ao fim compreendermos o contexto da Reforma Administrativa, movimento que serve para intensificar a participação da sociedade na Administração Pública, através da qual se transporta para a realidade as já previsões normativas trazidas pela Constituição Federal de 1988, ou pelo menos possibilita melhor identificar a sua existência. Tão logo compreendida, então o estudo do Controle Social traçando as suas diferenças com relação à participação; entendê-lo e caracterizá-lo como uma forma de participação social. suas previsões na Carta Maior, o contexto sob o qual cresce sobremaneira, o seu papel, limites, e a sua necessidade. Em fim, o presente trabalho pretende situar como uma das problrmáticas da Administração Pública atual, o seu distanciamento da sociedade. Uma vez aproximada, como vem ocorrendo gradativamente e sobremaneira em função dos mecanismos que a Democracia participativa oferece tais como os aqui estudados, alias uma tendência errefreável, é possível ser vislumbrada a transferência da Democracia Participativa rnquanto predominantemente realidade meramente formalizada nos textos de lei, para uma Administração Pública legítima, eficiente, real, material, com a efetiva participação social, dependente, porém, para o atingimento da sua perfeição, da conscientização, informação e constante luta da sociedade para executar com os instrumentos existentes e da criação de novos meios, bem como da vontade pura que deve ser instrumentalizada pela Administração, para então culminar materialmente realizada a vontade geral

Formulação integral e simulações numéricas para a equação do transporte unidimensional

Neste trabalho, aplicamos técnicas para obter resultados para o modelo dado pela equação de transporte isotrópica em estado estacionário em um meio participativo com fontes internas e fronteiras semirreflexivas. Do ponto de vista analítico, generalizamos a teoria de existência para soluções no espaço C quando as fontes estão no espaço de funções limitadas. Para obter a solução numérica, escrevemos a equação como uma equação de Fredholm do segundo tipo e aplicamos o método de Nyström com as quadraturas de Boole e Gauss- Legendre. Técnicas analíticas e computacionais foram implementadas para tratar a singularidade do núcleo. Além disso, calculamos os autovalores do problema. Também, aplicamos uma segunda metodologia numérica baseada no método de Nyström Produto, que consiste em calcular uma quadratura numérica específica para o núcleo do transporte que é capaz de absorver a singularidade. Mostramos a eficiência dos métodos propostos através de alguns testes numéricos e comparamos nossos resultados com aqueles que podem ser encontrados na literatura. Ademais, apresentamos comparações entre as duas metologias numéricas desenvolvidas nesse trabalho.This work, we apply techniques to obtain results for the model given by the isotropic transport equation in steady state in a partipative medium with internal sources and semirefletive boundaries. From the analytical point of view, we generalize the existence theory of solutions in the space of Hölder continuous function C when the sources are in the space of limited functions. To obtain a numerical solution, we write the equation as a Fredholm equation of the second type and we apply Nyström method with Boole’s and Gauss-Legendre quadrature. Analytical and computational techniques were implemented to deal with kernel singularities. In addition, we calculate the eigenvalues of the operator. We also apply a second numerical methodology based on the Nyström Product method, which consists of calculating a specific numerical square for the transport core that is capable of absorbing the singularity. We show the efficiency of the proposed method through some numerical tests and compare our results with those that can be found in the literature. Furthermore, we present comparisons between the two numerical methodologies developed in this work

Uma Sequência de Aulas de Física Sobre a Temática dos Terremotos com a Utilização da Divulgação Científica

Física.RESUMO Embora a divulgação científica não seja criada com objetivo de ser usada em sala de aula, sua utilização tem sido discutida com frequência por pesquisadores brasileiros que atuam na área de educação em ciências. Habilidades importantes para a formação dos estudantes estão sendo reveladas por estudos recentes sobre a potencialidade proporcionada pela divulgação científica. Esta monografia aborda uma sequência de aulas empregando o uso de divulgação científica como recurso didático para alunos do segundo ano do ensino médio abordando o tema terremotos, evento este presente em nossas vidas através da mídia. Levando este aspecto em consideração, houve uma preocupação em avaliar como o tema terremotos está circulando em diversos meios de divulgação. Nesta perspectiva, em vários momentos a presença de notícias e reportagens de jornais televisivos foi incorporada no planejamento desta sequência. O estudo do tema selecionado envolve desde as situações que originam o abalo sísmico até o momento em que ele é sentido pelos equipamentos (sismógrafos) e/ou por nós seres humanos. Diante disso e visando incluir conhecimento da área da física, estes foram relacionados aos conhecimentos da área da sismologia. Utilizando a divulgação científica de maneiras diferentes, há a finalidade de possibilitar ao aluno constituir uma visão abrangente sobre o conteúdo trabalho, despertando uma aproximação para com as ciências e consequentemente contribuir com o crescimento da cultura científica no ambiente escolar e no cotidiano do aluno. Palavras-chave: terremotos; divulgação científica; físicaABSTRACT Although scientific knowledge does not have the purpose of being studied at schools, its application, including scientific papers, has been frequently discussed by Brazilian searchers who teach Science. Important abilities to students’ formation are being shown by recent studies about the influences obtained by scientific knowledge. This monograph brings a series of classes dealing with scientific knowledge as a didactic resource to sophomore students discussing earthquakes, an known event daily present, mainly in media. Considering the previous, it was valued how the spreading of the topic earthquake is in several media, including it. In this point of view, in several moments the presence of newspapers and TV news was associated in the planning of this sequence. The study of the theme is from situations that cause the quakes to the moment they are felt by the equipment (seismographs) and/or by human beings. On the considerations and in order to include knowledge of the Physics area, those were related to the knowledge of Seismology area. Employing scientific knowledge in different ways, there is the objective of enable the student to establish a broad view about the obtained content, awakening the willing to know science and hence contribute to the development of science culture in school environment and in the student’s everyday life.
