Efficient Network Structures with Separable Heterogeneous Connection Costs

    Get PDF
We introduce a heterogeneous connection model for network formation to capture the effect of cost heterogeneity on the structure of efficient networks. In the proposed model, connection costs are assumed to be separable, which means the total connection cost for each agent is uniquely proportional to its degree. For these sets of networks, we provide the analytical solution for the efficient network and discuss stability impli- cations. We show that the efficient network exhibits a core-periphery structure, and for a given density, we find a lower bound for clustering coefficient of the efficient network.Comment: 9 page

Enhancement of Mechanical and Tribological Properties of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy

Incorporation of TiC particle was adopted as one of the available methods to study the enhancement in tribological and mechanical properties of Ti-6A14V alloy. The mechanical performance of Ti-6A1-4V-10Vol%TiC sample (TMC) was evaluated using tensile and micro-scratch tests. Ball-on-disk tests at various loads revealed that the wear resistance of Ti-6A1-4V was improved via incorporation of TiC provided that the contact pressure remained lower than 0.98 GPa. Thermal oxidation was adopted to improve the high pressure wear resistance of TMCs. The optimum oxidation condition was characterized using XRD, SEM observations, and micro-scratch tests. The fracture toughness of the coatings was measured by micro-indentation tests. Ball-on-disk tests revealed that oxidation at the optimum condition (at 800°C for 20 min) significantly improved the wear resistance of the TMCs compared to uncoated TMCs. The mechanism and the effect of oxidation process were analyzed and the operative wear mechanisms at different loads were discussed

Disparate particulate materials subjected to principal stress rotation

Many geotechnical engineering designs must accommodate the action of wind, waves and earthquakes. These loadings cause principal stress rotations on the foundation soil. The experimental simulation of these in situ stress paths can only be achieved by using sophisticated laboratory test devices capable of controlling both magnitude and direction of principal stresses. This research uses a new Directional Shear Cell with a modified shear sheet design that avoids hysteresis particularly under cyclic loading and allows tests to be carried out at constant mean stress level. Sample preparation techniques have been improved to provide fully saturated clay samples with minimum sample disturbance and a technique has been developed to measure pore water pressure accurately in the centre of the sample. The experimental work investigates the stress-strain behaviour of dry Leighton Buzzard sand, damp coal and saturated kaolinite at low stress levels when subjected to continuous and cyclic rotation of principal stress directions under plane strain conditions. The results of cyclic principal stress rotation tests on damp coal and saturated kaollnite show parallels with dry sand In that large strains occur at low applied stress ratios. Dilatency is suppressed by continuous rotation of principal stress and no failure planes were observed. However, the underlying mechanism of deformation was different for partly saturated kaolin. The onset of flow in this material leads to the occurrence of discontinuities. These may be tension cracks as well as the more readily anticipated shear rupture layers. Findings show that the principal stress rotation is the governing factor in initiating strain, and that cycling the stress level magnitude is secondary. It has been found that for the samples that have been previously sheared under cyclic rotation of principal stress directions and subsequently tested under monotonic loading, large increases In stiffness, dilation rate and strength-brittleness were observed, i.e. loose sand can become as strong and stiff as dense sand. It has been shown that soil strain can relate to two limiting stress-dllatancy relationships In slow shear flow in which volume change occurs, one attributed to energy dissipated through friction and the other through the dissipation of stored elastic energy

Factors Affecting Counterproductive Work Behaviour (CPWB): A Case of Banking Sector

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to examine and gain a better understanding of the drivers that affecting the counterproductive work behavior in banking sector. This study was done among 116 staff in Citibank, CIMB Bank and Bank Islam in Penang. Data were gathered through questionnaires and was being analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 13. Throughout the statistical analysis – correlation analysis, it was found that there is a significant relationship between the two independent variables namely Ethical Work Climate and Moral Awareness with the dependent variables – Counterproductive Work Behavior. Among the two independent variables, Ethical Work Climate is found to be the factor that contributes most to Counterproductive Work Behavior in the sample studied in Banking Sector

Currently the times and technological developments are increasingly rapid and sophisticated so that people use digital technology more to meet their needs. This study aims to determine the effect and simultaneous equations of e-service quality variables (efficiency, fulfillment, reliability, privacy, responsiveness, compensation and contact) on satisfaction and repurchase decisions of Shopee e-commerce customers. This research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive approach. This study uses more than one endogenous variable, so the tools that can be used are SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) and PLS (Partial Least Square). However, in this problem the feasibility and compliance using SEM with the assumption of ML (Maximum Like-lihood) technique with a range of 100-200 samples. The results of the research on the analysis of the influence of e-service quality on customer satisfaction and repurchase decisions at E-Commerce Shopee that have been analyzed, obtained several conclusions, namely efficiency, fulfillment, reliability, responsiveness, privacy, compensation and contact variables have a significant effect if they become one variable. exogenous namely e-service quality. The e-service quality variable has a significant effect on customer satisfaction and repurchase decisions. Simultaneous equations obtained from the analysis of the effect of E-Service Quality on Customer Satisfaction and Repurchase Decisions at E-Commerce Shopee are Y1 = 0.835 X + Z2 and Y2 = 0.750 Y1 + Z3
