    Underlaid Sensing Pilot for Integrated Sensing and Communications

    This paper investigates a novel underlaid sensing pilot signal design for integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) in an OFDM-based communication system. The proposed two-dimensional (2D) pilot signal is first generated on the delay-Doppler (DD) plane and then converted to the time-frequency (TF) plane for multiplexing with the OFDM data symbols. The sensing signal underlays the OFDM data, allowing for the sharing of time-frequency resources. In this framework, sensing detection is implemented based on a simple 2D correlation, taking advantage of the favorable auto-correlation properties of the sensing pilot. In the communication part, the sensing pilot, served as a known signal, can be utilized for channel estimation and equalization to ensure optimal symbol detection performance. The underlaid sensing pilot demonstrates good scalability and can adapt to different delay and Doppler resolution requirements without violating the OFDM frame structure. Experimental results show the effective sensing performance of the proposed pilot, with only a small fraction of power shared from the OFDM data, while maintaining satisfactory symbol detection performance in communication.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figure

    Endoscopic rhizotomy for chronic lumbar zygapophysial joint pain.

    BACKGROUND: Chronic lumbar zygapophysial joint pain is a common cause of chronic low back pain. Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is one of the effective management options; however, the results from the traditional RFA need to be improved in certain cases. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of percutaneous radiofrequency ablation under endoscopic guidance (ERFA) for chronic low back pain secondary to facet joint arthritis. METHODS: This is a prospective study enrolled 60 patients. The cases were randomized into two groups: 30 patients in the control group underwent traditional percutaneous radiofrequency ablation, others underwent ERFA. The lumbar visual analog scale (VAS), MacNab score, and postoperative complications were used to evaluate the outcomes. All outcome assessments were performed at postoperative 1 day, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. RESULTS: There was no difference between the two groups in preoperative VAS (P \u3e 0.05). VAS scores, except the postoperative first day, in all other postoperative time points were significantly lower than preoperative values each in both groups (P \u3c 0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in VAS at 1 day, 1 month, and 3 months after surgery (P \u3e 0.05). However, the EFRA demonstrated significant benefits at the time points of 3 months and 6 months (P \u3e 0.05). The MacNab scores of 1-year follow-up in the ERFA group were higher than that in the control group (P \u3c 0.05). The incidence of complications in the ERFA group was significantly less than that in the control group (P \u3c 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: ERFA may achieve more accurate and definite denervation on the nerves, which leads to longer lasting pain relief

    The rates and the determinants of hypertension according to the 2017 definition of hypertension by ACC/AHA and 2014 evidence-based guidelines among population aged ≥40 years old

    Background : In November 2017, the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) updated their definition of hypertension from 140/90 mm Hg to 130/80 mm Hg. Objectives : We sought to assess the situation of hypertension and the impact of applying the new threshold to a geographically and ethnically diverse population. Methods : We analyzed selected data on 237,142 participants aged ≥40 who had blood pressure taken for the 2014 China National Stroke Screening and Prevention Project. Choropleth maps and logistic regression analyses were performed to estimate the prevalence, geographical distribution and risk factors of hypertension using both 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines and 2014 evidence-based guidelines. Results : The present cross-sectional study showed the age- and sex-standardized prevalence of hypertension was 37.08% and 58.52%, respectively, according to 2014 evidence-based guidelines and 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines. The distribution of hypertension and risk factors changed little between guidelines, with data showing a high prevalence of hypertension around Bohai Gulf and in south central coastal areas using either definition. The age- and sex-standardized prevalence of newly labeled as hypertensive was 21.44%. Interestingly, the high prevalence region of newly labeled as hypertensive was found in the north China. Conclusion : The prevalence of hypertension increased significantly on 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines compared to the prevalence when using 2014 evidence-based guidelines, with high prevalence areas of newly labeled as hypertensive now seen mainly in north China. There need to be correspondingly robust efforts to improve health education, health management, and behavioral and lifestyle interventions in the north

    Assessing the efficacy and safety of fecal microbiota transplantation and probiotic VSL#3 for active ulcerative colitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

    BACKGROUND:Fecal microbiota transplantation is an effective treatment for many gastrointestinal diseases, such as Clostridium difficile infection and inflammatory bowel disease, especially ulcerative colitis. Changes in colonic microflora may play an important role in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis, and improvements in the intestinal microflora may relieve the disease. Fecal bacterial transplants and oral probiotics are becoming important ways to relieve active ulcerative colitis. PURPOSE:This systematic review with meta-analysis compared the efficacy and safety of basic treatment combined with fecal microbiota transplantation or mixed probiotics therapy in relieving mild to moderate ulcerative colitis. METHODS:The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane libraries (updated September 2019) were searched to identify randomized, placebo-controlled, or head-to-head trials assessing fecal microbiota transplantation or probiotic VSL#3 as induction therapy in active ulcerative colitis. We analyze data using the R program to obtain evidence of direct comparison and to generate intermediate variables for indirect treatment comparisons. RESULTS:Seven randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials were used as the sources of the induction data. All treatments were superior to placebo. In terms of clinical remission and clinical response to active ulcerative colitis, direct comparisons showed fecal microbiota transplantation (OR = 3.47, 95% CI = 1.93-6.25) (OR = 2.48, 95% CI = 1.18-5.21) and mixed probiotics VSL#3 (OR = 2.40, 95% CI = 1.49-3.88) (OR = 3.09, 95% CI = 1.53-6.25) to have better effects than the placebo. Indirect comparison showed fecal microbiota transplantation and probiotic VSL#3 did not reach statistical significance either in clinical remission (RR = 1.20, 95% CI = 0.70-2.06) or clinical response (RR = 0.95, 95% CI = 0.62-1.45). In terms of safety, fecal microbiota transplantation (OR = 1.15, 95% CI = 0.51-2.61) and VSL #3 (OR = 0.90, 95% CI = 0.33-2.49) showed no statistically significant increase in adverse events compared with the control group. In terms of serious adverse events, there was no statistical difference between the fecal microbiota transplantation group and the control group (OR = 1.29, 95% CI = 0.46-3.57). The probiotics VSL#3 seems more safer than fecal microbiota transplantation, because serious adverse events were not reported in the VSL#3 articles. CONCLUSIONS:Fecal microbiota transplantation or mixed probiotics VSL#3 achieved good results in clinical remission and clinical response in active ulcerative colitis, and there was no increased risk of adverse reactions. There was no statistical difference between the therapeutic effect of fecal microbiota transplantation and that of mixed probiotics VSL#3. However, the use of fecal microbiota transplantation and probiotics still has many unresolved problems in clinical applications, and more randomized controlled trials are required to confirm its efficacy

    The Inverse Optimization of an Optical Lithographic Source with a Hybrid Genetic Algorithm

    As an effective resolution enhancement technology, source optimization (SO) is considered key for significantly improving the image quality of optical lithography at advanced nodes. To solve the problem of unsatisfactory SO performance, it is necessary to combine it with optimization algorithms. In this study, an SO method based on a hybrid genetic algorithm is proposed to achieve an acceptable source shape in the imaging process for optical lithography. To overcome the problems of local optima and the small search scope, an update strategy that uses particle swarm optimization and the tabu list method from the tabu search algorithm are utilized to enhance the optimization performance. Meanwhile, different feature patterns were employed as the input of the optimization model. These simulation results show that the proposed SO method exhibits dominant optimization performance for SO in optical lithography

    Mullite-based ceramic tiles produced solely from high-alumina fly ash: Preparation and sintering mechanism

    Mullite-based ceramic tiles were successfully prepared using only high-alumina fly ash (HAFA) at relatively low sintering temperatures (1100-1400 degrees C). The effects of alkali activation on the chemical composition, mineral phase, and morphology of the HAFA were respectively characterised by ICP-OES, XRD, and SEM methods. The alkali-activation pretreatment not only modifies the chemical composition of HAFA to match that of mullite, but also can introduce Na-rich compounds to promote sintering. The macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of the fully ash-based ceramic tiles formed at different sintering temperatures were examined. The ceramic samples sintered at 1300 degrees C exhibited optimal post-sintering properties (relative density: 90.85%, water absorption: 0.10%, rupture modulus: 109.67 MPa, linear shrinkage: 15.70%, and apparent porosity: 0.68%) and a well-developed cubic puncheon-shaped mullite morphology. Finally, through the isothermal sintering method, the melt viscosities and the sintering kinetics were calculated theoretically, and the results show that the alkali activation could dramatically reduce the melt viscosity and the apparent activation energy. This research may provide a new method in utilising the vast amounts of HAFA waste to produce mullite-based ceramic tiles at low costs. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
