Going Beyond the Rhetoric: Taking Human Rights Seriously in the Post-COVID-19 New Paradigm

The COVID-19 pandemic should mark the beginning of a new era where a Human Rights Based Approach is neither recommended nor hoped for, but is an obligation when developing immediate and long-term responses to public health crises. Where human rights were previously simply mentioned and tolerated (alongside Sustainable Development Goals for instance), they should now form the basis for the construction of resilient societies in the post-COVID-19 area. This article first analyses the various dimensions of the public health and human rights crisis engendered by the pandemic, in order to identify, secondly, the breadth of the efforts that need to be made for a short- and long-term human rights-based response to COVID-19

Le corps dans l’anthropologie chrétienne du Moyen Âge oriental

La progressive valorisation du corps a été l’une des idées les plus fécondes de l’orthodoxie. Elle a vidé de son sens le traditionnel dualisme antique. La présente étude, fondée sur les manuels d’hérésiologie, les recueils de Questions et réponses et les récits hagiographiques, montre que dans l’anthropologie byzantine le corps est constitutif de la personne. Le thème des « deux Adam » (Barsanuphe et Jean de Gaza, Syméon le Nouveau Théologien) permet d’illustrer pour finir ce qui apparaît comme une « refondation de l’homme charnel »

In his De fato, written in 1520, Pomponazzi examines Thomas Aquinas's doctrine of predestination. From his point of view, Thomas's solution to the traditional conflict between divine science and human liberty is twofold: it mixes philosophy and theology, thereby transforming the revealed doctrine as well as that of philosophical rationality.
