Although the management consultancy activities have had a considerable growth in terms of
economic significance over the last years, these results haven’t been properly monitored by an
increase number of conceptual and empirical research on this subject. By means of fighting
the current lack of studies on the effective management consultant work, this thesis pretends
to analyze the roll these consultants have on this area. For such purpose, their role in leading,
reflecting, deciding and acting upon the knowledge and organizational practices transfer –
“from analysis and formulation to implementation and control” – applied on their SME
customers is put in perspective by this thesis. The resulting goal being to realize all the
framework of the study in an analysis perspective tied to the field of strategy-as-practice
research.
The results of the empirical analysis under the form of structured interviews and
questionnaires, applied to management consultants and SME managers – in such geographical
locations as: the Great Lisbon Area, the cities of Leiria and Setúbal, the Douro, the Madeira’s
Archipelago, the Minho, the Beira-Alta and Algarve regions – demonstrated that the
management consultancy stands upon a intensive knowledge base, with the learning process
as key factor for the development of that same knowledge, being “competence” the common
core of steps to consider in its development, as a ground base approach.
Competitiveness, release of funds, processes’ optimization, know-how, profitability,
innovation, new experiences and ideas, market and business knowledge, are therefore part of
a cooperative model of co-responsibility in this sector. Confidence, consistency, continuity
and also a set of relationships, “practices” and “praxis” of success identified in the study,
should be taken into account as essential factors in the development of defying, creative,
rational and catalytic projects to the promotion of an important industry in the world business
context
The Importance of Relationships for the Produced Knowledge in the Sector of Management Consulting
While the management consulting industry has been largely linked to the knowledge produced within the disciplines of strategic management in the academic field, the truth is that very little literature is produced in terms of research in this area, while the researchers focused more on a set of static techniques to be applied in the development of this field of research concerns. This article seeks to bridge this gap as well, showing by example that the consultancy sector is a true field of opportunities for the study of relationships management. This presentation is thus the aim of contributing both theoretically and empirically in the area of relationships through research in the context of management consulting, trying to visualize how the relationships are manifested in a context of high involvement and personal contact, and what’s the perception that must be taken into consideration by clients and consultants in terms of the benefits of their greater or lesser degree of involvement.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
O “OUTSOURCING” DOS SERVIÇOS COMO RECURSO ESTRATÉGICO DE COMPETITIVIDADE INTERNACIONAL DA ECONOMIA PORTUGUESA
Now-a-days the globalization of business markets requires a logical and functional view linked to value creation on the point of view of cost, time and service. The underlining of new organizational forms and new work processes in terms of contract models is no more seen as a resource, but starting to be understood as a fundamental basic need and a potential source of competitive advantage. To that extent, this article is intended as a discussion paper from a theoretical basis reasoned and focused on internationalization and "Outsourcing", aiming to demonstrate how this last resource may be the ideal response and an influential and powerful tool to project Portugal internationally, can function for a country marked by a recession as a real source of income in times of crisis. Atually, this may be the way to capitalize Portugal advantages, improve their handicaps, create jobs, generate wealth, promote international competitiveness and, more importantly, be the alternative medicine to cure the disease that is now-a-days the national government deficit, that the treatment “Outsourcing” could eventually help to regenerate.
Despite the growing interest in strategy consulting and its influence on business, there is a very limited number of studies investigating the contributions of the consultants for the creation, dissemination and consumption of knowledge management in a macro and micro level. This article intends to bridge this gap. Standing in the emerging literature of "strategy-as-practice” and in the focalization, establishment and institutionalization of strategic practices and activities used in the management consulting industry, we intent to contribute to the construction of the literature in this area, presenting a set of theoretical perspectives that aim to bridge the gap existing in this field of study, at the same time that comes to challenge the researchers to contribute this domain of management with new developments that may atually translate into determining factors regarding the possible improvement of organizational business performance. Privatization Process and Talent Management in Angola
The problem of the privatization process began in the 1940s, even though it only really began to gain a prominent place in the entrepreneurial path, about 50 years later. The processes of privatization of the world economies, which led to the triggering of a set of cooperative strategies based on the State-owned enterprises privatization, and, of course, all these events, had repercussions also in Angola. Based on an investigation of a pragmatic or inductive nature, based on a non-probabilistic sample, due to the lack of studies and information about the phenomenon of Angola's privatization during the period from colonial independence to the present. This article aims to develop this subject by presenting, on the one hand, a set of causes that were the basis of the failure in the privatization processes taken place in Angola between 1989 and 2005 and which degenerated into the collapse of its corporate network. And, on the other hand, it presents an idea of the possible impact that these privatization processes failures had, and still have, on Talent Management by Angolan organizations. It also presents a set of suggestions which could be considered in future privatization processes that may occur by building a more consistent business structure in economic and business terms
The “Fashionable Knowledge” of Management Consulting
In the evolution of strategic disciplines much of the knowledge produced has been widely diffused by the management consulting industry. But can this sector be regarded as knowledge intensive activity based on true structure of expertise knowledge? One way to understand if we can consider that sector as a source of knowledge dissemination is realizing its relationship with the market in terms of knowledge, rather than identify only as a set of static techniques to be applied as in most of times they have been doing. This article presents itself as a reflection about the real reasons for the increasing use ofmanagement consulting services, indicating simultaneously that can really be a true field of opportunities for the academic class if the study will focused in the establishment and institutionalization of micropractices (strategy-as-practice) that there are used and its implications in terms of organizational results.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Events and their influence on the destination value
The study of the influence of events on the destinations where they
take place has gained strength over the years. The current study investigates the
effects on tourism with importance on promoting, positioning and shaping the
image of the destination. This study aims to understand the influence of an
event to the value of the destination while addressing topics like sustainability,
image and value of the destination, the local community, and value creation. To
test the hypothesis, we followed a mixed-method approach through a survey
applied to visitors of an event and to residents, followed by qualitative
investigation in the form of a semi-structured interview. The findings reveal
that with the exception of the local community, the event has a positive
influence on other measures of value. The conclusions drawn from this study
can provide a model for strategic assessment of the three forces – event,
destination and local community.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The boundaries in the area of knowledge transfer in management consulting
In a historical retrospective, although the existing literature calls the management consulting industry an extraordinary sector and a unique phenomenon in the business context, in fact these statements are not accompanied by a number of academic studies that emphasize the importance of the effective work of the management consultants. To contest the lack of studies in this emerging area, this article aims to understand the implications of the border to the transfer of information and knowledge from management consultants to their client companies. The results of the empirical analysis in the form of semi-structured interviews and questionnaires applied to management consultants and SME managers in Portugal reveal that the competency factor must be based on the four knowledge families of business management - the know- know, the competence, know-how and know-how to be and it is only from this conjugation that any kind of constraints that can be found along the way (political, physical or cultural) are able to be unblocked.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
