    Efficiency of microsatellite markers in assisted selection for resistance to soybean cyst nematode (race 3).

    Four microsatellite sequences were tested in soybean DNA from cultivars and segregating genotypes. Three of them were close to the resistance locus rhg 1 on molecular linkage group G (Satt 309, Sat_168, Sat_163) and one was close to Rhg4 locus on group A2 (Sat_162). Progenies previously classified as cyst nematode (SNC) resistant and others with unknown reaction were tested, using the resistant cultivars Liderança, and Renascença and the susceptibles 'Cristalina' and 'OCEPAR-4' as control. The best primer for resistance to SCN was Sat_162. Twenty segregant progenies tested with Sat_162 presented a 150 bp band for homozygous resistant genotypes and 200 bp for susceptible ones, and both for the heterozigous genotypes. Previous studies have shown that this microsatellite marker is efficient to select genotypes carrying Peking-derivative resistance. 'Peking' takes part in the in the genealogy of all segregant progenies evaluated in this study.     Investigation of the impact of neutron irradiation on SiC power MOSFETs lifetime by reliability tests

    High temperature reverse-bias (HTRB), High temperature gate-bias (HTGB) tests and electrical DC characterization were performed on planar-SiC power MOSFETs which survived to accelerated neutron irradiation tests carried out at ChipIr-ISIS (Didcot, UK) facility, with terrestrial neutrons. The neutron test campaigns on the SiC power MOSFETs (manufactered by ST) were con-ducted on the same wafer lot devices by STMicroelectronics and Airbus, with different neutron tester systems. HTGB and HTRB tests, which characterise gate-oxide integrity and junction robustness, show no difference between the non irradiated devices and those which survived to the neutron irradiation tests, with neutron fluence up to 2 × 1011 (n/cm2). Electrical characterization performed pre and post-irradiation on different part number of power devices (Si, SiC MOSFETs and IGBTs) which survived to neutron irradiation tests does not show alteration of the data-sheet electrical parameters due to neutron interaction with the device

    The pseudotumor cerebri syndrome (PTCS), also known as idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH), is characterized by signs and symptoms of increased intracranial pressure such as headache and cranial nerve palsies, in the absence of any space-occupying mass. This condition commonly affects overweight women of childbearing age, even if it is also frequent in men and children. Children with PTCS may present with atypical signs and symptoms, with a different prognosis compared to adults. However, the treatment is the same for both children and adults, even if there are no strict treatment guidelines in regards. All treatment strategies in children are based on retrospective studies and none has been evaluated in prospective or randomized controlled trial studies.     Inferring mode inertias in evolved solar-like stars

    Asteroseismology of evolved solar-like stars is experiencing a growing interest due to the wealth of observational data from space-borne instruments such as the \emph{CoRoT} and \emph{Kepler} spacecraft. In particular, the recent detection of mixed modes, which probe both the innermost and uppermost layers of stars, paves the way for inferring the internal structure of stars along their evolution through the subgiant and red giant phases. Mixed modes can also place stringent constraints on the physics of such stars and on their global properties (mass, age, etc...). Here, using two \emph{Kepler} stars (KIC 4351319 and KIC 6442183), we demonstrate that measurements of mixed mode characteristics allow us to estimate the mode inertias, providing a new and additional diagnostics on the mode trapping and subsequently on the internal structure of evolved stars. We however stress that the accuracy may be sensitive to non-adiabatic effects.Comment: ApJ Lette

    La georreferenciación es un neologismo que hace referencia a la posición con la que se define la ubicación de un objeto espacial (representado por punto, vector, área, volumen) en un sistema de coordenadas y datum determinado. A partir de la georreferenciación, es posible integrar diferentes fuentes de información utilizando como elemento en común la correspondencia geográfica. En este trabajo se presenta la experiencia del grupo de investigación LAT de la Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata en la georreferenciación del sistema de distribución de energía eléctrica en zonas urbanas y rurales.     Gallstone pancreatitis vs alcohol-induced pancreatitis: does aetiology affect the extent of pancreatic necrosis?

Available on open access from Mattioli 1885 via the DOI in this recordBackground and aim: The impact of different aetiologies of acute pancreatitis on the development of pancreatic necrosis (PN) is unclear. This study assessed the extent and progression of pancreatic and peripan-creatic necrosis on the computed tomography (CT) scan of patients with gallstone (GP) and alcohol-induced (AIP) pancreatitis and evaluated their impact on disease severity. Methods: Patients ≥ 18-year-old with GP, AIP and PN on CT ( January 2010 – September 2018), were considered. The radiological extent of PN and clinical outcomes were analysed with a logistic regression model. Results: Eighty-one patients, 59 with GP, 22 with AIP, were included. GP had a larger extent of PN when the body and/or tail of the pancreas were involved (P = 0.009). Gallstone disease (P = 0.028) and higher American Society of Anesthetists scores (P = 0.043) were predictors of necrosis diffuse to different areas of the pancreas. Predictors of single/multiple organ failure were GP (P = 0.040), necrosis > 50% of the pancreas (P = 0.002) with a diffuse pattern (P = 0.004). Conclusions: Patients with GP had a wider extent of necrosis in the pancreatic body and/or tail. The onset of organ failure can be predicted in subjects with GP and larger amount of PN

    Tendon biomimetic 3D scaffold enhance amniotic epithelial stem cells biological potential

    Tendon tissue engineering represents an emerging field whose aim focuses on the design of 3D tendon biomimetic scaffolds that should ideally combine adequate physical, mechanical, biological and functional properties of the native tissue. In this research, it was designed a bundle tendon-like PLGA 3D scaffold with highly aligned fibers on which the structure and mechanical properties were evaluated. Moreover, it was assessed scaffold’s teno-differentiative and immuno-inductive ability on amniotic epithelial stem cells (AECs). The fabricated PLGA 3D scaffolds mimic macroscopically and microscopically the structure of native tendon tissue and its biomechanical properties. Biologically, AECs seeded on the fabricated 3D scaffolds acquired a spindle tenocyte-like morphology after just 24h compared to the AECs cultured on petri dishes (CTR) which maintained their cobblestone morphology. The phenotypic change of the engineered AECs was also confirmed by visualizing TNMD protein expression, a mature tendon marker, within their cytoplasm and supported by the analysis of tendon-related genes (SCX, COL1, and TNMD) that were significantly upregulated at 7-day culture, while no TNMD protein expression or significant increase in tendon-related genes was found in CTR cells. Moreover, the 3D construct induced on AECs an upregulation of IL-10, an anti-inflammatory cytokine, maintaining basal levels of IL-12, a pro-inflammatory cytokine, showing a favorable IL10/IL12 ratio. In conclusion, the fabricated PLGA 3D scaffolds are tendon biomimetic in terms of ultrastructure and biomechanics, making them also suitable for surgical purposes. Moreover, these constructs revealed a high teno- and immuno-inductive potential on AECs and thus represent potential candidates for tendon regeneration
