Predictions of the solar wind interaction with Comet Grigg-Skjellerup
The planned encounter of the Giotto spacecraft with comet Grigg-Skjellerup on 10th July 1992 promises to extend our knowledge of the solar wind interaction with comets substantially. While there have been spacecraft missions to comets before now, this mission is exploratory in the sense that the target comet is much older and there-fore it has a much lower gas production rate than comets Halley (by a factor approximately 200) or Giacobini-Zinner (factor approximately 10). Here we present theoretical predictions for the location of the bow shock and contact surface features, and compare similar predictions with the observed features at the previous encounters. We discuss the applicability of fluid-type theory which these models employ, in the case of strong and weak comets in the solar wind
Clinical presentation, diagnostic findings and outcome of dogs with presumptive spinal-only meningoencephalomyelitis of unknown origin
Objectives: To summarise clinical presentation, diagnostic findings and long-term outcome for dogs clinically diagnosed with meningoencephalomyelitis of unknown origin affecting the spinal cord alone.
Methods: Medical records were reviewed for dogs diagnosed with presumptive spinal-only meningoencephalomyelitis of unknown origin between 2006 and 2015.
Results: 21 dogs were included; the majority presented with an acute (43%) or chronic (52%) onset of neurological signs. Ambulatory paresis was the most common neurological presentation (67%). Neurological examination most commonly revealed a T3-L3 myelopathy, and spinal hyperaesthesia was a common finding (71%). A spinal cord lesion was visible in 90% of cases on magnetic resonance imaging. Eighteen lesions (86%) showed parenchymal contrast enhancement and 17 lesions (81%) showed contrast enhancement of overlying meninges. All dogs were treated with immunosuppressive doses of glucocorticosteroids, sometimes combined with cytosine arabinoside. At time of data capture, 10/21 dogs (48%) had died or been euthanased because of the condition. Overall median survival time was 669 days.
Clinical Significance: Meningoencephalomyelitis of unknown origin should be considered in the differential diagnosis of dogs presenting with a progressive myelopathy. Magnetic resonance imaging features can possibly help to distinguish presumptive meningoencephalomyelitis of unknown origin from other more common spinal diseases. Overall, long-term survival is guarded, approximately 50% of dogs will die or be euthanased despite appropriate therapy

Factor Structure of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale in a Population-Based Sample
To demonstrate validity, questionnaires should measure the same construct in different groups and across time. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was designed as a unidimensional scale, but factor analyses of the EPDS have been equivocal, and demonstrate other structures: this may be because of sample characteristics and timing of administration. We aimed to examine the factor structure of the EPDS in pregnancy and postpartum at 4 time-points in a large population-based sample. We carried out exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis on the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children sample (n = 11,195–12,166) randomly split in 2. We used data from 18 and 32 weeks pregnancy gestation; and 8 weeks and 8 months postpartum. A 3-factor solution was optimal at all time-points, showing the clearest factor structure and best model fit: Depression (4 items) accounted for 43.5–47.2% of the variance; anhedonia (2 items) 10.5–11.1%; and anxiety (3 items) 8.3–9.4% of the variance. Internal reliability of subscales was good at all time points (Cronbach’s αs: .73–.78). The EPDS appears to measure 3 related factors of depression, anhedonia, and anxiety and has a stable structure in pregnancy and the first postnatal year
Givental symmetries of Frobenius manifolds and multi-component KP tau-functions
We establish a link between two different constructions of the action of the
twisted loop group on the space of Frobenius structures. The first construction
(due to Givental) describes the action of the twisted loop group on the
partition functions of formal Gromov-Witten theories. The explicit formulas for
the corresponding tangent action were computed by Y.-P. Lee. The second
construction (due to van de Leur) describes the action of the same group on the
space of Frobenius structures via the multi-component KP hierarchies. Our main
theorem states that the genus zero restriction of the Y.-P. Lee formulas
coincides with the tangent van de Leur action.Comment: 25 page
São Paulo’s 2013 water crisis: a socially constructed disaster risk
Frequent cases of water scarcity in Brazil reveal a water governance and administration crisis. During the water crisis (2013-2016), the São Paulo Metropolitan Region experienced a disaster scenario. This article analyses how it was constituted as a socially constructed disaster episode. A case study was carried out in the Novo Recreio neighbourhood (Guarulhos, SP) through ethnographic observations, interviews, and newspaper articles. The results were analysed based on the Pressure and Release Model (PAR). It was concluded that the water crisis period in SPMR has disproportionately affected the Guarulhos population, especially in Novo Recreio. Furthermore, the study demonstrated that public policies and the neighbourhood's territorial formation are related to its population's current frail living conditions and increased socio-environmental vulnerability in the face of continuous water scarcity, thus corroborating the social construction of the risk of water scarcity.Frequent cases of water scarcity in Brazil reveal a water governance and administration crisis. Not identifying with postnatal depression: A qualitative study of womens postnatal symptoms of distress and need for support
Introduction: Diagnoses and symptoms of postnatal mental health problems are associated with adverse outcomes for women and their families. Current classification and assessment of postnatal mental health problems may not adequately address the range or combination of emotional distress experienced by mothers. This study aims to explore symptoms of mental health problems reported by new mothers and their experiences of being assessed for these. Methods: In-depth interviews with 17 women in southeast England with a baby under 1-year old who experienced a postnatal mental health problem. Data were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Results: Women described a lack of identification with the concept of postnatal depression and felt that other forms of emotional distress were not recognized by the healthcare system. Women felt that support seeking for postnatal mental health problems needed to be normalized and that support should be available whether or not women were diagnosed. Assessment needs to be well timed and caringly implemented.Discussion: Identification and recognition of symptoms and disorders other than postnatal depression need to be improved. Awareness of multiple types of distress needs to be raised both for women experiencing such distress, and for healthcare professionals, to enable them to support women at this time. Different approaches to assessment that include the range of symptoms reported should be piloted
