Cheirodon interruptus is a ubiquitous small characid that inhabits the Pampean region and commonly used as bait. Its vast market is supplied from the wild population causing a significant environmental impact. In this study, we assess the effect of photoperiod on ovarian maturation in order to evaluate its potential as a tool to manipulate reproduction under artificial conditions. Four treatments in triplicate (light: dark, L: D) were tested: 24L: 0D, 12L: 12D, 0L: 24D and a progressive photoperiod corresponding to the daily photoperiod increments in wild during winter-spring transition, accelerated three times. The experiment was conducted for 45 days. Gonadosomatic index (GSI), oocyte mean diameter, vitellogenic oocyte proportions, plasma estradiol concentrations (E2), condition factor (Kn) and standard length were estimated. Values of mean GSI, oocyte diameter, vitellogenic oocyte proportions and E2 concentration were maximum in the progressive treatment indicating vitellogenesis stimulation. In turn the same parameters were minimum in the 24L: 0D, revealing the vitellogenesis inhibition. This study showed that photoperiodic regime play an important role in the onset of ovarian maturation in C. interruptus.Instituto de Limnología "Dr. Raúl A. The isomeric complexes [Fe(1-bpp)2]2+ and [Fe(3-bpp)2]2+ (1-bpp=2,6-di[pyrazol-1-yl]pyridine; 3-bpp=2,6-di[1H-pyrazol-3-yl]pyridine) and their derivatives are some of the most widely investigated complexes in spin-crossover research. This article addresses two unique aspects of their spin-state chemistry. First, is an unusual structural distortion in the high-spin form that can inhibit spin-crossover in the solid state. A new analysis of these structures using continuous shape measures has explained this distortion in terms of its effect on the metal coordination geometry, and has shown that the most highly distorted structures are a consequence of crystal packing effects. Second, solution studies have quantified the influence of second-sphere hydrogen bonding on spin-crossover in [Fe(3-bpp)2]2+, which responds to the presence of different anions and solvents (especially water). Previously unpublished data from the unsymmetric isomer [Fe(1,3-bpp)2]2+ (1,3-bpp=2-[pyrazol-1-yl]-6-[1H-pyrazol-3-yl]pyridine) are presented for comparison. Modifications to the structure of [Fe(3-bpp)2]2+, intended to augment these supramolecular effects, are also described

GENERAL DESIGN: Presentation of a new type of a study protocol for evaluation of the effectiveness of an immune modifier (rhG-CSF, filgrastim): prevention of postoperative infectious complications and of sub-optimal recovery from operation in patients with colorectal cancer and increased preoperative risk (ASA 3 and 4). A randomised, placebo controlled, double-blinded, single-centre study is performed at an University Hospital (n = 40 patients for each group). This part presents the course of the individual patient and a complication algorithm for the management of anastomotic leakage and quality management. OBJECTIVE: In part three of the protocol, the three major sections include: The course of the individual patient using a comprehensive graphic display, including the perioperative period, hospital stay and post discharge outcome. A center based clinical practice guideline for the management of the most important postoperative complication--anastomotic leakage--including evidence based support for each step of the algorithm. Data management, ethics and organisational structure. CONCLUSIONS: Future studies with immune modifiers will also fail if not better structured (reduction of variance) to achieve uniform patient management in a complex clinical scenario. This new type of a single-centre trial aims to reduce the gap between animal experiments and clinical trials or--if it fails--at least demonstrates new ways for explaining the failures
