    Analysis of the Gravity Mode of a Pulsating Doradus-type Star

    International audienceIn recent decades, asteroseismology has become a powerful tool in checking models for the structure and evolution of stars. From the perspective of asteroseismology, pulsating stars are invaluable. For this type of star, Doradus-type stars have a special feature. Since the atmosphere of such stars is in the transition phase from radiant state to convection state, gravity mode oscillations are visible in these stars. Since gravity modes are originated from central stellar regions, detecting them provides valuable information about these regions. In this study, photometric data of KIC11826272 provided by the Kepler satellite has been analyzed. The gravity mode's pattern and the average period have been determined. Deviation from the uniform ∆ in the form of a pattern is due to the mean rotation of the star. The rotational frequency splitting effect has increased the gravity mode's frequency. A decaying deviation found in the pattern represents prograde modes that are moving in the direction of rotation of the star. Finally, the degree of gravity mode has been determined

    Single-particle and collective excitations in a charged Bose gas at finite temperature

    The main focus of this work is on the predictions made by the dielectric formalism in regard to the relationship between single-particle and collective excitation spectra in a gas of point-like charged bosons at finite temperature TT below the critical region of Bose-Einstein condensation. Illustrative numerical results at weak coupling (rs=1r_s = 1) are presented within the Random Phase Approximation. We show that within this approach the single-particle spectrum forms a continuum extending from the transverse to the longitudinal plasma mode frequency and leading to a double-peak structure as TT increases, whereas the density fluctuation spectrum consists of a single broadening peak. We also discuss the momentum distribution and the superfluidity of the gas.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

    Effect of diethyl maleate on toxicity of linalool against two stored product insects in laboratory condition

    Essential oil extracted from plants has been widely investigated for pest control properties, with some proving to be toxic in insect pests. In this study, effect of the synergist diethyl maleate (DEM) on toxicity of one monoterpenoids, linalool was studied against two most common stored-product insects such as Callosobruchus maculatus and Rhyzopertha dominica. Diethyl maleate was combined in mass ratios (1:8 and 1:4) with acetone used and applied on C. maculatus and R. dominica adult. Five concentrations of linalool were tested with four replications at 24 and 48 h with 30 adult insect in each replication. After 24 h of exposure, the LC50 values were estimated to be 23.61 and 31.01 μl/l air, and after 48 h, they were 15.07 and 21.84 for each insect, respectively. A combination of inalool with the synergist after 24 h of exposure, the LC50 values was estimated to be 11.93 and 13.07 μl/l air and after 48 h, they were 7.38 and 7.93, respectively for each insect. The synergist is able to block the specific system of enzymes involved in selection of tolerance in susceptible generations. Diethyl maleate is an inhibitor of glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity.     The epidemiology of suicide behaviors among the countries of the eastern Mediterranean region of WHO: A systematic review

    This systematic review aimed to help better to understand the epidemiology of suicidal behaviors among Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) countries. The PubMed, EMR medex, Scopus, PsychInfo, ISI, and IMEMR were searched with no language limitation for papers on the epidemiology of suicidal behaviors in the general population, published up to August 2013. A total of 13 articles were reviewed. The incidence (per 100.000) of committed suicide ranged from 0.55 to 5.4. The lifelong prevalence of attempted suicide, suicidal plan and thoughts were 0.72-4.2, 6.2-6.7, and 2.9-14.1, respectively. The figures for suicide are higher than those officially reported. Suicide behaviors� statistics is susceptible to underestimation presumably due to the socio-cultural, religious and legal barriers, not to mention the lack of well-organized registries and methodologically sound community-based surveys. © 2015 Tehran University of Medical Sciences.     The political identities of neighbourhood planning in England

    The rise of neighbourhood planning has been characterised as another step in a remorseless de-politicisation of the public sphere. A policy initiated by the Coalition Government in England to create the conditions for local communities to support housing growth, neighbourhood planning appears to evidence a continuing retreat from political debate and contestation. Clear boundaries are established for the holistic integration of participatory democracy into the strategic plan-making of the local authority. These boundaries seek to take politics out of development decisions and exclude all issues of contention from discussion. They achieve this goal at the cost of arming participatory democracy with a collective identity around which new antagonisms may develop. Drawing on the post-political theories of Chantal Mouffe this paper identifies the return of antagonism and conflict to participation in spatial planning. Key to its argument is the concept of the boundary or frontier that in Mouffe’s theoretical framework institutionalises conflict between political entities. Drawing on primary research with neighbourhood development plans in England the paper explores how boundary conditions and boundary designations generate antagonism and necessitate political action. The paper charts the development of the collective identities that result from these boundary lines and argues for the potential for neighbourhood planning to restore political conflict to the politics of housing development

    Distributed Power Profile Tracking for Heterogeneous Charging of Electric Vehicles

    Coordinated charging of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) can effectively mitigate the negative effects imposed on the power distribution grid by uncoordinated charging. Simultaneously, coordinated charging algorithms can accommodate the PEV user's needs in terms of desired state-of-charge and charging time. In this paper, the problem of tracking an arbitrary power profile by coordinated charging of PEVs is formulated as a discrete scheduling process, while accounting for the heterogeneity in charging rates and restricting the charging to only the maximum rated power. Then, a novel distributed algorithm is proposed to coordinate the PEV charging and eliminate the need for a central aggregator. It is guaranteed to track, and not exceed, the power profile imposed by the utility, while maximizing the user convenience. A formal optimality analysis is provided to show that the algorithm is asymptotically optimal in case of Homogeneous charging, while it has a very small optimality gap for the heterogeneous case. Numerical simulations considering realistic charging scenarios with different penetration levels and tracking of a valley-filing profile are presented to validate the proposed charging algorithm

    We present an analytical expression for the static many-body local field factor G+(q)G_{+}(q) of a homogeneous two-dimensional electron gas, which reproduces Diffusion Monte Carlo data and embodies the exact asymptotic behaviors at both small and large wave number qq. This allows us to also provide a closed-form expression for the exchange and correlation kernel Kxc(r)K_{xc}(r), which represents a key input for density functional studies of inhomogeneous systems.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    Single polymer dynamics in elongational flow and the confluent Heun equation

    We investigate the non-equilibrium dynamics of an isolated polymer in a stationary elongational flow. We compute the relaxation time to the steady-state configuration as a function of the Weissenberg number. A strong increase of the relaxation time is found around the coil-stretch transition, which is attributed to the large number of polymer configurations. The relaxation dynamics of the polymer is solved analytically in terms of a central two-point connection problem for the singly confluent Heun equation.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure

    Pair distribution function in a two-dimensional electron gas

    We calculate the pair distribution function, g(r)g(r), in a two-dimensional electron gas and derive a simple analytical expression for its value at the origin as a function of rsr_s. Our approach is based on solving the Schr\"{o}dinger equation for the two-electron wave function in an appropriate effective potential, leading to results that are in good agreement with Quantum Monte Carlo data and with the most recent numerical calculations of g(0)g(0).     Unpaired and spin-singlet paired states of a two-dimensional electron gas in a perpendicular magnetic field

    We present a variational study of both unpaired and spin-singlet paired states induced in a two-dimensional electron gas at low density by a perpendicular magnetic field. It is based on an improved circular-cell approximation which leads to a number of closed analytical results. The ground-state energy of the Wigner crystal containing a single electron per cell in the lowest Landau level is obtained as a function of the filling factor ν\nu: the results are in good agreement with those of earlier approaches and predict νc0.25\nu_{c} \approx 0.25 for the upper filling factor at which the solid-liquid transition occurs. A novel localized state of spin-singlet electron pairs is examined and found to be a competitor of the unpaired state for filling factor ν>1\nu >1.
