    Implementation of Chemo-entrepreneurship Teaching Approach for Improving Students' Life Skills

    The Implementation of Chemo-entrepreneurship (CEP) Teaching Approach in Improving Students' Life Skills The study aimed at developing an innovative teaching method. Chemo-entrepreneurship (CEP) approach is a method is Chemistry teaching which relates the theory with everyday objects. This method provides the knowledge as well as the skills of Chemistry in order to transform raw materials into valuable products. The focus of the study was the improvement of students' achievement and the devel­opment of students' life skills. The subjects of the study were 39 students from the Chemistry Education Department of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). The data were obtained from the observation of the subjects, which were finally analyzed descriptively. The results of the study showed that the CEP teaching method was successfully implemented, and the students got better achievement. The study also revealed that the means of students' life skills were also improved.s' achievement of learning was in­creased. Students' average life skill score was also improved

    Pemanfaatan Limbah Sekam Padi Menjadi Silika Gel

    Sekam padi merupakan salah satu sumber penghasil silika terbesar, berpotensi sebagai bahan pembuatan silika gel. Abu sekam padi mengandung silika sebanyak 87%-97% berat kering. Sintesis silika gel dari abu sekam padi dilakukan dengan mereaksikan abu sekam padi menggunakan larutan NaOH 1N pada suhu 800C selama 1 jam dan dilanjutkan dengan penambahan larutan asam hingga pH=7. Gel yang dihasilkan selanjutnya didiamkan selama 18 jam kemudian dikeringkan pada suhu dikeringkan menggunakan oven pada suhu 800C hingga beratnya konstan. Hasil percobaan diperoleh bahwa silika gel dengan penambahan CH3COOH menghasilkan yield yang lebih besar dibandingkan penambahan HCl. Berdasarkan analisis FT-IR silika gel yang diperoleh memiliki gugus Si-O-Si dan gugus Si-OH. Silika gel dengan penambahan HCl memiliki surface area sebesar 65,558 m2/g, total pore volume 0,1935 cc/g, dan average pore size sebesar 59,0196 Ă…. Sedangkan silika gel dengan penambahan CH3COOH memiliki surface area sebesar 9,685 m2/g, total pore volume 0,02118 cc/g, dan average pore size sebesar 43,7357Ă…. Silika gel dengan penambahanCH3COOH memiliki kemampuan menyerap kelembaban udara yang lebih baik dibanding silika gel dengan penambahan HCl. Rice hull ash (RHA) is one of the biggest source of silica, potential for sintesis silica gel. RHA contains silica as many as 87 % -97 %. Synthesis of silica gel from rice hull ash was done by reaction using NaOH solution at temperature 800C for 1 hour and followed by the addition of an acid solution until pH=7. The gel were rested with time aging 18 hour, and then dried using oven at temperature 800C until constant weigh. The results obtained that the silica gel with the addition of CH3COOH produce higher yields than the addition of HCl. Based on FT-IR analysis, silica gel has a group of silanol (Si-`OH) and siloxan (Si-O-Si) group. Silica gel with the addition of HCl has a surface area 65,558 m2/g, a total pore volume 0,1935 cc/g, and average pore size 59,0196 Ă…. While the silica gel with the addition of CH3COOH has a surface area 9.685 m2/g, a total pore volume 0,02118 cc/g, and average pore size 43,7357 Ă…. Silica gel with the addition of CH3COOHhas the ability to absorb humidity better than silica gel with the addition of HCl

    Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah memberikan pemahaman kepada guru matematika bagaimana pemanfaatan teknologi yang benar dalam pembelajaran matematika serta keterampilan menggunakan software pembelajaran dinamis seperti GeoGebra dalam pembelajaran matematika. Jumlah guru yang terlibat dalam kegiatan ini sebanyak 30 guru. Metode kegiatan ini adalah ceramah, diskusi, tanyajawab, dan latihan mandiri. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini akan dilaksanakan dalam beberapa tahapan, yaitu 1) penyampaian materi oleh narasumber mengenai pembelajaran abad 21, pemanfaatan teknologi dalam pembelajaran matematika, serta penggunaan GeoGebra sebagai media pembelajaran visual; 2) latihan mandiri penggunaan GeoGebra, 3) pengisian angket pemahaman tentang pemanfaatan teknologi dalam pembelajaran, serta 4) rencana tindak lanjut. Selama kegiatan, para guru antusias mengikuti materi, berdiskusi, dan mencoba menggunakan GeoGebra. Pemanfaatan teknologi khususnya penggunaan GeoGebra dalam pembelajaran matematika merupakan sesuatu yang baru bagi guru sehingga sangat membantu mereka mengembangkan pembelajaran yang inovatif sesuai tuntutan pembelajaran saat ini.     The Charm of Processed Character Tempe and Business Diversification of Tempe Sanan Malang

    In Kampung Sanan Malang, designated as a tourist destination for small householdbased industries, tempeh chips are its flagship product. The 636 tempeh artisans are from Sanan Malang Tempeh and Tempeh Chips Production Center Association. Members of this community have processed tempeh into 50 types of preparations like various flavors of tempeh chips, tempeh satay, mendol sticks, tempeh brownies cakes, dry tempeh, processed soybean stew to produce nata de soya, muffins, tempeh mud cakes, and bloeder cakes. The last innovation made in 2021 was named Character Tempeh. This new product is manufactured by utilizing a plastic mold. The problem is that no member of this community has been able to make their own desired shape of the character model, nor have they been able to make a more effective print. The solutions offered include making character models using plasticine and training in printing these models using food-grade RTV. At the end of this activity, artisans can produce processed character tempeh with unique and good quality so that it becomes a typical product of Sanan Malang.     Literasi Matematis Siswa Sekolah Menengah di Kabupaten Kupang

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah 1) mengukur level literasi matematika siswa sekolah menengah di Kabupaten Kupang, dan 2) mengetahui perbedaan literasi matematika siswa sekolah menengah di Kabupaten Kupang ditinjau dari perbedaan gender, kemampuan matematika, dan status sosial ekonomi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode survei. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa SMA/K Kelas X di Kabupaten Kupang. Teknik penarikan sampel yang digunakan adalah cluster random sampling dengan pemilihan sampel dalam tiap cluster sebanyak 1 kelas untuk sekolah. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah (1) soal tes literasi matematika yang diambil dari soal tes PISA tahun 2006 dan 2012 yang terdiri dari 12 soal dengan konten change and relationship, shape and space, quantity, uncertainty, dan (2) angket latar belakang siswa yang berisi biodata siswa, keluarga, sekolah, pengalaman belajar matematika di sekolah. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji Mann Whitney dan uji Kruskal Wallis. Hasil penelitian menunjukan level literasi siswa berada pada level sedang (6,7%), level rendah (76,7%), dan sangat rendah (16,7%). Tidak terdapat perbedaan literasi matematika siswa yang signifikan berdasarkan tinjauan perbedaaan gender dan perbedaan status sosial ekonomi, serta terdapat perbedaan literasi matematika siswa yang signifikan berdasarkan  tinjauan kemampuan matematik

    Improving First Year Integrated Science Students’ Biological Drawing at Mfantsipim School

    This study was action research, descriptive in nature and designed to improve first year Science students’ biological drawing skills at Mfantsipim School. The study was descriptive in nature. The main instruments used to collect data were observation schedules, interviews and a set of questionnaires. A sample of 74 students and 7 teachers were involved in the study. During the pre-intervention stages an exercise was used to assess the magnitude of students’ problems. After which, intervention activities were designed and implemented to help students improve their performance in their Biology and Integrated Science drawings to be specific. The outcome of the study revealed that students’ drawing skills had improved in Biology and Integrated Science respectively. Based on the findings, it was recommended that all stakeholders in Education should review the biology syllabus, equip teachers with the basic skills of biological drawing and organize frequent In-service Training for teachers, as this will enhance the performance of students in biological drawings in Biology and Integrated Science subjects respectively

    A Policy Maker’s Guide to Designing Payments for Ecosystem Services

    Over the past five years, there has been increasing interest around the globe in payment schemes for the provision of ecosystem services, such as water purification, carbon sequestration, flood control, etc. Written for an Asian Development Bank project in China, this report provides a user-friendly guide to designing payments for the provision of ecosystem services. Part I explains the different types of ecosystem services, different ways of assessing their value, and why they are traditionally under-protected by law and policy. This is followed by an analysis of when payments for services are a preferable approach to other policy instruments. Part II explains the design issues underlying payments for services. These include identification of the service as well as potential buyers and sellers, the level of service needed, payment timing, payment type, and risk allocation. Part II contains a detailed analysis of the different types of payment mechanisms, ranging from general subsidy and certification to mitigation and offset payments. Part III explores the challenges to designing a payment scheme. These include the ability to monitor service provision, secure property rights, perverse incentives, supporting institutions, and poverty alleviation
