    Simultaneous Multiwavelength Observations of Magnetic Activity in Ultracool Dwarfs. IV. The Active, Young Binary NLTT 33370 AB (=2MASS J13142039+1320011)

    We present multi-epoch simultaneous radio, optical, H{\alpha}, UV, and X-ray observations of the active, young, low-mass binary NLTT 33370 AB (blended spectral type M7e). This system is remarkable for its extreme levels of magnetic activity: it is the most radio-luminous ultracool dwarf (UCD) known, and here we show that it is also one of the most X-ray luminous UCDs known. We detect the system in all bands and find a complex phenomenology of both flaring and periodic variability. Analysis of the optical light curve reveals the simultaneous presence of two periodicities, 3.7859 ±\pm 0.0001 and 3.7130 ±\pm 0.0002 hr. While these differ by only ~2%, studies of differential rotation in the UCD regime suggest that it cannot be responsible for the two signals. The system's radio emission consists of at least three components: rapid 100% polarized flares, bright emission modulating periodically in phase with the optical emission, and an additional periodic component that appears only in the 2013 observational campaign. We interpret the last of these as a gyrosynchrotron feature associated with large-scale magnetic fields and a cool, equatorial plasma torus. However, the persistent rapid flares at all rotational phases imply that small-scale magnetic loops are also present and reconnect nearly continuously. We present an SED of the blended system spanning more than 9 orders of magnitude in wavelength. The significant magnetism present in NLTT 33370 AB will affect its fundamental parameters, with the components' radii and temperatures potentially altered by ~+20% and ~-10%, respectively.     We present Atacama Large Millimeter/ sub-millimeter Array (ALMA) observations of V883 Ori, an FU Ori object. We describe the molecular outflow and envelope of the system based on the 12^{12}CO and 13^{13}CO emissions, which together trace a bipolar molecular outflow. The C18^{18}O emission traces the rotational motion of the circumstellar disk. From the 12^{12}CO blue-shifted emission, we estimate a wide opening angle of \sim 150^{^{\circ}} for the outflow cavities. Also, we find that the outflow is very slow (characteristic velocity of only 0.65 km~s1^{-1}), which is unique for an FU Ori object. We calculate the kinematic properties of the outflow in the standard manner using the 12^{12}CO and 13^{13}CO emissions. In addition, we present a P Cygni profile observed in the high-resolution optical spectrum, evidence of a wind driven by the accretion and being the cause for the particular morphology of the outflows.     Optimizing Dialog Strategies for Conversational Agents Interacting in AmI Environments

Salamanca (Spain), 28-30 March 2012In this paper, we describe a conversational agent which provides academic information. The dialog model of this agent has been developed by means of a statistical methodology that automatically explores the dialog space and allows learning new enhanced dialog strategies from a dialog corpus. A dialog simulation technique has been applied to acquire data required to train the dialog model and then explore the new dialog strategies. A set of measures has also been defined to evaluate the dialog strategy. The results of the evaluation show how the dialogmodel deviates from the initially predefined strategy, allowing the conversational agent to tackle new situations and generate new coherent answers for the situations already present in the initial corpus.     Global synchronization for delayed complex networks with randomly occurring nonlinearities and multiple stochastic disturbances

The official published version can be obained from the link - Copyright 2009 IOP Publishing LtdThis paper is concerned with the synchronization problem for a new class of continuous time delayed complex networks with stochastic nonlinearities (randomly occurring nonlinearities), interval time-varying delays, unbounded distributed delays as well as multiple stochastic disturbances. The stochastic nonlinearities and multiple stochastic disturbances are investigated here in order to reflect more realistic dynamical behaviors of the complex networks that are affected by the noisy environment. By utilizing a new matrix functional with the idea of partitioning the lower bound h1 of the time-varying delay, we employ the stochastic analysis techniques and the properties of the Kronecker product to establish delay-dependent synchronization criteria that ensure the globally asymptotically mean-square synchronization of the addressed stochastic delayed complex networks. The sufficient conditions obtained are in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) whose solutions can be readily solved by using the standard numerical software.     Hybridization gap versus hidden order gap in URu2_2Si2_2 as revealed by optical spectroscopy

    We present the in-plane optical reflectance measurement on single crystals of URu2_2As2_2. The study revealed a strong temperature-dependent spectral evolution. Above 50 K, the low frequency optical conductivity is rather flat without a clear Drude-like response, indicating a very short transport life time of the free carriers. Well below the coherence temperature, there appears an abrupt spectral weight suppression below 400 cm1^{-1}, yielding evidence for the formation of a hybridization energy gap arising from the mixing of the conduction electron and narrow f-electron bands. A small part of the suppressed spectral weight was transferred to the low frequency side, leading to a narrow Drude component, while the majority of the suppressed spectral weight was transferred to the high frequency side centered near 4000 cm1^{-1}. Below the hidden order temperature, another very prominent energy gap structure was observed, which leads to the removal of a large part of the Drude component and a sharp reduction of the carrier scattering rate. The study revealed that the hybridization gap and the hidden orger gap are distinctly different: they occur at different energy scales and exhibit completely different spectral characteristics.Comment: 5 page

    Economic evidence for the prevention and treatment of atopic eczema: a protocol for a systematic review

    Background: Eczema, synonymous with atopic eczema or atopic dermatitis, is a chronic skin disease that has a similar impact on health-related quality of life as other chronic diseases. The proposed research aims to provide a comprehensive systematic assessment of the economic evidence base available to inform economic modelling and decision making on interventions to prevent and treat eczema at any stage of the life course. Whilst the Global Resource of Eczema Trials (GREAT) database collects together the effectiveness evidence for eczema there is currently no such systematic resource on the economics of eczema. It is important to gain an overview of the current state of the art of economic methods in the field of eczema in order to strengthen the economic evidence base further. Methods/design: The proposed study is a systematic review of the economic evidence surrounding interventions for the prevention and treatment of eczema. Relevant search terms will be used to search MEDLINE, EMBASE, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, NHS Economic Evaluation Database, Health Technology Assessment, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Econ Lit, Scopus, Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Registry and Web of Science in order to identify relevant evidence. To be eligible for inclusion studies will be primary empirical studies evaluating the cost, utility or full economic evaluation of interventions for preventing or treating eczema. Two reviewers will independently assess studies for eligibility and perform data abstraction. Evidence tables will be produced presenting details of study characteristics, costing methods, outcome methods and quality assessment. The methodological quality of studies will be assessed using accepted checklists. Discussion: The systematic review is being undertaken to identify the type of economic evidence available, summarise the results of the available economic evidence and critically appraise the quality of economic evidence currently available to inform future economic modelling and resource allocation decisions about interventions to prevent or treat eczema. We aim to use the review to offer guidance about how to gather economic evidence in studies of eczema and/or what further research is necessary in order to inform this
