Notched and Unnotched Fatigue Behavior of Angle-Ply Graphite/Epoxy Composites
The axial fatigue behavior of both notched and unnotched graphite/epoxy composites was studied. In unnotched studies, conducted on a 0/+ or - 30 3S AS/3501 laminate, S-N curves were determined for various stress ratios R using simply supported test specimens. Apparent fatigue limits in tension-tension (T-T) and compression-compression (C-C) cycling occurred at about 60% of the respective static strengths. The overall results were expressed in the form of a constant life diagram showing the relationship between mean stress and stress amplitude. The diagram illustrates a skew-symmetry in fatigue life caused by the relatively low compressive strength of the unrestrained test specimens used. In effect, a maximum in fatigue properties occurs at a positive value of mean stress. Results are of significance in situations where structural members are buckling or crippling critical in design
Dark Photon Decay Beyond The Euler-Heisenberg Limit
We calculate the exact width for a dark photon decaying to three photons at
one loop order for dark photon masses m' below the e+e- production threshold of
2m_e. We find substantial deviations from previous results derived from the
lowest order Euler-Heisenberg effective Lagrangian in the range m_e < m' <
2m_e, where higher order terms in the derivative expansion are nonnegligible.
This mass range is precisely where the three photon decay takes place on
cosmologically relevant timescales. Our improved analysis opens a window for
dark photons in the range 850 keV < m' < 2m_e, 10^-5 < epsilon < 10^-4.Comment: 6 page
Cellular Automata and Ultra-Discrete Painlev\'e Equations
Starting from integrable cellular automata we present a novel form of
Painlev\'e equations. These equations are discrete in both the independent
variable and the dependent one. We show that they capture the essence of the
behavior of the Painlev\'e equations organizing themselves into a coalescence
cascade and possessing special solutions. A necessary condition for the
integrability of cellular automata is also presented.Comment: 8 pages, plainTeX, 2 figure
Special solutions for Ricci flow equation in 2D using the linearization approach
The 2D Ricci flow equation in the conformal gauge is studied using the
linearization approach. Using a non-linear substitution of logarithmic type,
the emergent quadratic equation is split in various ways. New special solutions
involving arbitrary functions are presented. Some special reductions are also
discussed.Comment: 8 pages, latex, no figure
Integrable systems without the Painlev\'e property
We examine whether the Painlev\'e property is a necessary condition for the
integrability of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We show that for a
large class of linearisable systems this is not the case. In the discrete
domain, we investigate whether the singularity confinement property is
satisfied for the discrete analogues of the non-Painlev\'e continuous
linearisable systems. We find that while these discrete systems are themselves
linearisable, they possess nonconfined singularities
Critical Role of the Secondary Binding Pocket in Modulating the Enzymatic Activity of DUSP5 toward Phosphorylated ERKs
DUSP5 is an inducible nuclear dual-specificity phosphatase that specifically interacts with and deactivates extracellular signal-regulated kinases ERK1 and ERK2, which are responsible for cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. The phosphatase domain (PD) of DUSP5 has unique structural features absent from other nuclear DUSPs, such as the presence of a secondary anion-binding site in the proximity of the reaction center and a glutamic acid E264 positioned next to the catalytic cysteine C263, as well as a remote intramolecular disulfide linkage. The overall 400 ns molecular dynamics simulations indicate that the secondary binding site of DUSP5 PD acts as an allosteric regulator of the phosphatase activity of DUSP5. Our studies have identified E264 as a critical constituent of the dual binding pocket, which regulates the catalytic activity of DUSP5 by forming a salt bridge with arginine R269. Molecular dynamics studies showed that initial occupation of the secondary binding pocket leads to the breakage of the salt bridge, which then allows the occupation of the active site. Indeed, biochemical analysis using the pERK assay on mutant E264Q demonstrated that mutation of glutamic acid E264 leads to an increase in the DUSP5 catalytic activity. The role of the secondary binding site in assembling the DUSP5–pERK pre-reactive complex was further demonstrated by molecular dynamics simulations that showed that the remote C197–C219 disulfide linkage controls the structure of the secondary binding pocket based on its redox state (i.e., disulfide/dithiol) and, in turn, the enzymatic activity of DUSP5
On a q-difference Painlev\'e III equation: I. Derivation, symmetry and Riccati type solutions
A q-difference analogue of the Painlev\'e III equation is considered. Its
derivations, affine Weyl group symmetry, and two kinds of special function type
solutions are discussed.Comment: arxiv version is already officia
Multiple-scale analysis of discrete nonlinear partial difference equations: the reduction of the lattice potential KdV
We consider multiple lattices and functions defined on them. We introduce
slow varying conditions for functions defined on the lattice and express the
variation of a function in terms of an asymptotic expansion with respect to the
slow varying lattices.
We use these results to perform the multiple--scale reduction of the lattice
potential Korteweg--de Vries equation.Comment: 17 pages. 1 figur
Marine fish landings in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during 2016 - An overview
Tamil Nadu, with a coastline of 1076 km has 363
landing centres while the 45 km coastline of
Puducherry has 26 landing centres in 2 fishing zones
(Puducherry and Karaikkal). Fishing is done using
different combinations of fishing crafts and
gears. The recent trend of fish landings in Tamil Nadu
showed a slight decrease in landings in 2016 (7.07
lakh t) compared to 2015 (7.09 lakh t). In spite of
this, Tamil Nadu was ranked second among all
maritime states contributing 19.5% of the total
marine fish landings in the country during 2016. The
landings of Puducherry were 0.45 lakh t in 2016 with
a reduction of 33,958 t compared to 2015. The major
contribution was from Karaikkal region (67%)
Characterization of wheat varieties (Triticum spp.) through seed morphology
An experiment was carried out at the Department of Seed Science and Technology, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh, to characterize 28 wheat varieties of different species [17 varieties (MP 4010, HI 1500, HI 1531, HI 1544, GW 1, GW 503, DL 788-2, HD 2932, GW 11, GW 173, GW 190, GW 273, LOK 1, GW 322, MP 3288, GW 366 and GW 496) of Triticum aestivum, 9 varieties (HI 8381, HI 8498, HI 8627, HI 8713, A 28, A 206, GDW 1255, GW 1139 and RAJ 1555) of Triticum durum and 2 varieties (DDK 1025, DDK 1029) of Triticum dicoccum)] released for general cultivation in Gujarat at state level as well as at the National level in Central India based on the seed morphological characters. Based on the seed colour, the varieties were grouped into amber (25), white (1) and red (2). On the basis of seed shape, wheat varieties were separated in to round (2) ovate (7), oblong (12) and elliptical (7). On the basis of seed size, varieties were grouped into medium seed size (5), bold seed size (15) and very bold seed size (8). On the basis of seed hardness, varieties were grouped into soft (1), semi-hard (7) and hard (20). Based on the seed germ width, varieties were grouped into medium (15), wide (9) and narrow (4) seed germ width types. The varieties were grouped based on the seed crease into three groups, as medium (11),shallow (12) and deep (5) grain crease types. Based on the brush hair length, wheat varieties were grouped as short (17), medium (7) and long (4) brush hair length types
