Transcriptional Regulation of zma-MIR528a by Action of Nitrate and Auxin in Maize
In recent years, miR528, a monocot-specific miRNA, has been assigned multifaceted roles during development and stress response in several plant species. However, the transcription regulation and the molecular mechanisms controlling MIR528 expression in maize are still poorly explored. Here we analyzed the zma-MIR528a promoter region and found conserved transcription factor binding sites related to diverse signaling pathways, including the nitrate (TGA1/4) and auxin (AuxRE) response networks. Accumulation of both pre-miR528a and mature miR528 was up-regulated by exogenous nitrate and auxin treatments during imbibition, germination, and maize seedling establishment. Functional promoter analyses demonstrated that TGA1/4 and AuxRE sites are required for transcriptional induction by both stimuli. Overall, our findings of the nitrogen- and auxin-induced zma-MIR528a expression through cis-regulatory elements in its promoter contribute to the knowledge of miR528 regulome

MEGARA cryogenic system
MEGARA (Multi Espectrógrafo en GTC de Alta Resolución para Astronomía) is the new integral field unit (IFU) and multi-object spectrograph (MOS) instrument for the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). The selected cryogenic device to harbor the CCD detector for the MEGARA spectrograph is a liquid nitrogen open-cycle cryostat. The LN2 open-cycle cryostat is a custom made product which has been designed by the INAOE astronomical instrumentation group. The proposed cryostat offers modular stages for easy assembly and testing whilst also allowing future modifications to accommodate the required CCDs, electronics and optics
Effectiveness of a cardiovascular risk management program in the incidence of cardiovascular events in a low-income population from the caribbean region of Colombia
Methods
This was a retrospective cohort study. Patients with 20 to 76 years affiliated to insurer company and enrolled to the DTC program were considered as the study population. The data source was an administrative database of all 128,263 patients between Jan 2015 and Dec 2018. The main outcome was the reduction in the risk of a CVE (stroke, AMI or CHF) based in the time-person exposed to the intervention. Four different time thresholds were considered for stablishing exposure status: six months, one year, two years and four years. Propensity score-weighted Cox regression models were used to evaluate the association between exposure to the program and the incidence of CVE
(S)TEM Analysis of the Strain and Morphology of InAs Quantum Dots using GaAs(Sb)(N) Capping Layers for Solar Cell Applications
transki-Krastanov In(Ga)As/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) are the subject of great scientific and technological interest, primarily aimed to broaden the emission wavelength towards 1.3-1.55 μm, required for optical fiber telecommunications [1]. More recently, this QD system has drawn a lot of attention owing to their unique properties, which could be also used to boost the energy conversion efficiency of solar cells and exceed the Schockley-Queisser limit [2]. Additionally, the utilization of capping layers (CLs) with materials different than GaAs covering the InAs QDs may provide all these approaches with extra advantages. In this respect, strain-reducing layers (SRLs) such as GaAsSb extend the emission wavelength by reducing the valence band offset while strain compensated layers (SCLs) such as GaAsN CL improve the InAs QD luminescence extending the emission wavelength via conduction band offset reduction, together with a compensation of the compressive strain derived from the InAs QDs. As a consequence, the use of GaAsSbN quaternary alloys as a CL for InAs/GaAs QDs could open even more possibilities allowing independent tailoring of the electron and hole confinement potentials and the strain states of the QDs in a wide range, which could be useful for many applications [3]. However, the nature and the growth conditions of such CLs are critical parameters to determine the resulting properties of the QDs. Processes such as intermixing, segregation or strain-enhanced diffusion could
occur during the capping process that modify the shape, composition and strain fields of the QDs [4]. The aim of this study is to compare in a statistical way the effect of several capping materials with different designs and growth conditions of the CL on the morphology of InAs/GaAs QDs
Impact in hospitalization costs of a cardiovascular risk management program in Colombia: a propensity score matching model
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death and burden of disease in Colombia and globally. In 2017, CVD represented the 12% of total DALYs. CVD is a costly disease from patient, family and societal perspectives. Effective prevention and risk management programs reduces the incidence of CVD by as much as 80%. We aimed to estimate the impact of direct medical hospitalization costs related to adherence in a risk management program in Colombia, 2018. We retrospectively collected data from 6,243 patients with data of enrollment in a cardiovascular risk management program (DTC, in Spanish) of a subsidized insurer, who presented arterial hypertension (AH) or AH+ type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). 1,065 were identified adherent to the program (treated) and 5.178 non adherent (controls). We designed a propensity score matching model adjusted with confounding variables to estimate the effect of treatment (program adherence) over hospitalization cost. Costs were calculated based on hospitalization invoices and expressed in Colombian pesos (COP) 2018. DTC has an average negative effect on cost of treated population. Being treated avoids hospitalization costs; these results were statistically significant at the 5% and 10% level (with 95%CI that goes through zero). Hence, being in the DTC program reduces hospital costs that ranges from COP- 799,259 (95%CI) compared to the average cost. The overall impact on program costs is a significant saving of COP583,670 per event-year. If all members of the DTC program fulfilled its activities by more than 80%, the savings generated by the program would be close to COP$ 6.85 billion. DTC risk management program reduces direct hospitalization costs of events associated to CVD. Our results are important to design policies focused on the cost and risk management of patients with CVD in poor population
High-precision determination of the electric and magnetic form factors of the proton
New precise results of a measurement of the elastic electron-proton
scattering cross section performed at the Mainz Microtron MAMI are presented.
About 1400 cross sections were measured with negative four-momentum transfers
squared up to Q^2=1 (GeV/c)^2 with statistical errors below 0.2%. The electric
and magnetic form factors of the proton were extracted by fits of a large
variety of form factor models directly to the cross sections. The form factors
show some features at the scale of the pion cloud. The charge and magnetic
radii are determined to be r_E=0.879(5)(stat.)(4)(syst.)(2)(model)(4)(group) fm

In arXiv:1108.3058v1 [nucl-ex], Arrington criticizes the Coulomb corrections
we applied in the analysis of high precision form factor data (see
Phys.Rev.Lett.105:242001, 2010, arXiv:1007.5076v3 [nucl-ex]). We show, by
comparing different calculations cited in the Comment, that the criticism of
the Comment neglects the large uncertainty of "more modern" TPE corrections.
This uncertainty has also been seen in recent polarized measurements. We rerun
our analysis using one of these calculations. The results show that the Comment

The electric and magnetic form factors of the proton
The paper describes a precise measurement of electron scattering off the
proton at momentum transfers of \ GeV. The
average point-to-point error of the cross sections in this experiment is
0.37%. These data are used for a coherent new analysis together with all world
data of unpolarized and polarized electron scattering from the very smallest to
the highest momentum transfers so far measured. The extracted electric and
magnetic form factors provide new insight into their exact shape, deviating
from the classical dipole form, and of structure on top of this gross shape.
The data reaching very low values are used for a new determination of the
electric and magnetic radii. An empirical determination of the
Two-Photon-Exchange (TPE) correction is presented. The implications of this
correction on the radii and the question of a directly visible signal of the
