Size Gap for Zero Temperature Black Holes in Semiclassical Gravity
We show that a gap exists in the allowed sizes of all zero temperature static
spherically symmetric black holes in semiclassical gravity when only
conformally invariant fields are present. The result holds for both charged and
uncharged black holes. By size we mean the proper area of the event horizon.
The range of sizes that do not occur depends on the numbers and types of
quantized fields that are present. We also derive some general properties that
both zero and nonzero temperature black holes have in all classical and

Экспериментальное исследование динамики фрикционных процессов при трении латуни Л63 с ультрамелкозернистой структурой
В работе рассматривается экспериментальное исследование динамики фрикционных процессов при трении объемных ультрамелкозернистых материалов. В качестве модельных образцов использовалась латунь Л63 с крупнокристаллической и ультрамелкозернистой структурой, сформированной методом равноканального углового прессования. В процессе сухого трения скольжения осуществлялась регистрация сигналов виброускорений и акустической эмиссии. Анализ коротких сигналов с применением преобразований Фурье позволил установить характерные параметры сигналов, полученных при трении крупнокристаллических и ультрамелкозернистых материалов

The effect of genetic variation on promoter usage and enhancer activity.
The identification of genetic variants affecting gene expression, namely expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs), has contributed to the understanding of mechanisms underlying human traits and diseases. The majority of these variants map in non-coding regulatory regions of the genome and their identification remains challenging. Here, we use natural genetic variation and CAGE transcriptomes from 154 EBV-transformed lymphoblastoid cell lines, derived from unrelated individuals, to map 5376 and 110 regulatory variants associated with promoter usage (puQTLs) and enhancer activity (eaQTLs), respectively. We characterize five categories of genes associated with puQTLs, distinguishing single from multi-promoter genes. Among multi-promoter genes, we find puQTL effects either specific to a single promoter or to multiple promoters with variable effect orientations. Regulatory variants associated with opposite effects on different mRNA isoforms suggest compensatory mechanisms occurring between alternative promoters. Our analyses identify differential promoter usage and modulation of enhancer activity as molecular mechanisms underlying eQTLs related to regulatory elements
Enhancement of Threshold Cross Sections by In-Medium Final State Interactions
We address the problem of pion production in low energy -nucleus
collisions. For the production mechanism we assume a simple model consisting of
a coherent sum of single pion exchange and the excitation---followed by the
decay into two pions and a nucleon---of the resonance. The
production amplitude is modified by the final state interaction between the
pions calculated using the chirally improved J\"ulich meson exchange model
including the polarization of the nuclear medium by the pions. The model
reproduces well the experimentally observed cross
sections, especially the enhancement with increasing of the

Encompassing a Sense of Belonging with Youth: Art-based exploration in Urban Gardening
This article showcases an arts-based project incorporating designs from youth participants in Project GROWL (Growing Real Opportunities in Work and Life). Project GROWL incorporates agricultural and environmental education with personal and professional development skills. Youth participants actively engage in an urban garden. These paintings were completed by youth and sprayed with a clear overcoat to protect them from the weather. All paintings and bee boxes were placed strategically around the urban garden to promote visual stamina for human and pollinating visitors. By creating these art pieces for the garden, youth found a deeper sense of belonging with this outdoor space. This activity also promoted by-in with youth to keep the garden safe and welcoming for all things living
Near-threshold production of -mesons in and NN collisions and -mixing
We consider near-threshold -meson production in and
collisions. An effective Lagrangian approach with one-pion exchange is applied
to analyze different contributions to the cross section for different isospin
channels. The Reggeon exchange mechanism is also evaluated for comparison. The
results from reactions are used to calculate the contribution of the
meson to the cross sections and invariant mass distributions
of the reactions and . It is found that
the experimental observation of mesons in the reaction is much more promising than the observation of mesons in
the reaction . Effects of isospin violation in the reactions
