Top quark spin in ep collision

We discuss the degree of spin polarization of single top quarks produced via WgWg fusion process in epep collision at TESLA+HERAp and CLIC+LHC energies s=1.6\sqrt{s}=1.6 and 5.3 TeV. A description on how to combine the cross sections of e+btνˉe^{+}b\to t\bar{\nu} and e+gtbˉνˉe^{+}g\to t\bar{b}\bar{\nu} processes is given. e+e^{+}-beam direction is taken to be the favorite top quark spin decomposition axis in its rest frame and it is found to be comparable with the ones in pppp collision. It is argued that theoretical simplicity and experimental clearness are the advantage of epep collision.Comment: 2 eps figure

Optical qubit generation by state truncation using an experimentally feasible scheme

    Get PDF
Generation of arbitrary superposition of vacuum and one-photon states using quantum scissors device (QSD) is studied. The device allows the preparation of states by truncating an input coherent light. Optimum values of the intensity of the coherent light for the generation of any desired state using the experimentally feasible QSD scheme are found.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

The study aimed to analyze whether there is a significant relationship between perceived parental attitudes and experiences in close relationships of the individuals in the emerging adulthood period. The study group of this research, which is in the relational screening model, consisted of 272 teacher candidates attending the first, second, third and fourth grades of different departments in the Faculty of Education at a foundation university in Istanbul in the 2018-2019 academic year. Of the students in the study group, 144 (53%) are female and 128 (47%) are male. The study group who participated in the study was formed by using the appropriate sampling method out of the non-random sampling methods. In the collection of the data of the study, Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory adapted to Turkish by Sümer (2006) and Perceived Parental Attitudes Scale adapted to Turkish by Dirik, Yorulmaz, and Karancı (2015) were used. The correlations between the variables studied were calculated by the Pearson Moments Multiplication Correlation coefficient. As a result of the research, a positive and high-level significant relationship was determined between rejecting maternal attitudes and rejecting paternal attitudes regarding perceived paternal attitudes (r=.736, p<.01). Rejecting maternal attitudes showed a positive and low-level significant relationship with the anxiety subscale of the close relationships scale (r=.181, p<.01). Rejecting father attitudes of the perceived parental attitudes showed a positive and low-level significant relationship with the anxiety subscale of the close relationships scale (r=.174, p<.05). The findings obtained were discussed in line with the literature and recommendations were made. Çalışma grubunu oluşturan öğrencilerin 1442’ü (%53) kadın 128’i (%47) erkektir.

A locality preserving one-sided binary tree-Crossbar switch wiring design algorithm

    Get PDF
One-sided crossbar switches allow for a simple implementation of complete Kn graphs. However, designing these circuits is a cumbersome process and can be automated. We present an algorithm that allows designing automatic one-sided binary tree-crossbar switches which do not exceed & LeftFloor;n over 2⌋ columns, and achieves Kn graph without connecting any wires between any three adjacent blocks, thus preserving locality in connections. © 2015 IEEE

Open borders, closed minds: the discursive construction of national identity in North Cyprus

    Get PDF
The article investigates the discursive construction of a Turkish Cypriot national identity by the newspapers in North Cyprus. It questions the representation and reconstruction processes of national identity within the press and examines the various practices employed to mobilize readers around certain national imaginings. Using Critical Discourse Analysis, the article analyses news reports of the opening of border crossings in Cyprus in 2003, based on their content, the strategies used in the production of national identity and the linguistic means employed in the process. In this way, the nationalist tendencies embedded in news discourses, as well as discriminatory and exclusive practices, are sought out

Cost analysis and related factors in patients with traumatic hand injury

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to measure the direct and indirect costs and factors influencing these costs in patients presenting following traumatic hand injury. We assessed patients aged 18-65 years who were in work. Hand injury severity and functional status were assessed. Direct costs, including medical care expenses, and indirect costs, including lost productivity, were calculated. Seventy-nine patients of a mean age of 32 years were included. The mean direct cost for each patient was 1772(471772 (47% of total cost), and the indirect cost was 1891 (53% of total cost). Injury severity, time to return to work, and hospitalization time were the main parameters of increased total cost in a linear regression analysis. © The Author(s) 2012

Onboard Evolution of Understandable Swarm Behaviors

    Get PDF
Designing the individual robot rules that give rise to desired emergent swarm behaviors is difficult. The common method of running evolutionary algorithms off‐line to automatically discover controllers in simulation suffers from two disadvantages: the generation of controllers is not situated in the swarm and so cannot be performed in the wild, and the evolved controllers are often opaque and hard to understand. A swarm of robots with considerable on‐board processing power is used to move the evolutionary process into the swarm, providing a potential route to continuously generating swarm behaviors adapted to the environments and tasks at hand. By making the evolved controllers human‐understandable using behavior trees, the controllers can be queried, explained, and even improved by a human user. A swarm system capable of evolving and executing fit controllers entirely onboard physical robots in less than 15 min is demonstrated. One of the evolved controllers is then analyzed to explain its functionality. With the insights gained, a significant performance improvement in the evolved controller is engineered
