Modernizar en femenino. Algunas notas sobre el trabajo de las agentes de economía doméstica y los cambios socioeconómicos y culturales en el rural gallego del tardofranquismo

En este texto nos acercamos al trabajo de las agentes de Economía Doméstica, rama del Servicio de Extensión Agraria dedicada al trabajo con las mujeres rurales, para reflexionar desde ahí sobre las políticas para el agro del franquismo y los cambios económicos, sociales y culturales de sus décadas finales. Atenderemos a los orígenes de esta vertiente de la extensión, a la formación recibida por las agentes y a su trabajo sobre el terreno, acercándonos a algunas experiencias prácticas en el rural gallego. Aproximarnos desde lo local nos ayudará a calibrar las distancias entre los programas oficiales para la mujer rural y su concreción a pie de campo. A partir de un estudio sobre la mujer y el mundo agrario en Galiza en cuya elaboración participaron varias Agentes de Economía Doméstica, extenderemos la cronología hasta la década de los ochenta para continuar la reflexión sobre distintas dimensiones de la pretendida modernización del rural gallego y los diferentes lugares de la mujer y el trabajo femenino.This paper aims at studying the work of Home Economics agents, a branch of the Agricultural Extension Service focused on or-ganising activities with rural women, in order to achieve a better understanding of the agrarian policies of Francoism and the socioeconomic changes during the last decades of the regime. We will examine the origins of this aspect of the extension, the training received by the officers and their fieldwork, taking as case-studies some practical experiences in rural Galiza. Local histo-ry will allows us to explore the distance be-tween official programs for rural women and their practice. From a study about women and agriculture in Galiza, in which some Home Eco-nomics agents took part, we extended the chronology until the eighties to go on reflecting on the different dimensions of the desired modernization of rural Galiza and the different places of women and female work.S

Modernization Models for Development Policy: American Proposals and their influence on the Servicio de Extensión Agraria (1955-1975)

Con este trabajo nos proponemos estudiar las políticas agrarias del franquismo y particularmente la creación y actuación del Servicio de Extensión Agraria (1955) en el contexto de la difusión de la Teoría de la Modernización. Comenzaremos con una contextualización de las relaciones culturales entre España y los EE.UU. y su potencial proyección sobre el ámbito rural. A continuación, prestaremos atención a la impronta del modelo extensionista norteamericano en la organización y metodología del Servicio de Extensión Agraria. Sin perder de vista la importancia de la escala estatal para la implementación y adaptación de las distintas políticas agrarias, atenderemos al contexto político e ideológico internacional como elemento que permite ampliar la comprensión y estudio de dichas políticas. En ese sentido, propondremos finalmente una primera aproximación comparativa al estudio del SEA en relación con diferentes experiencias de extensionismo agrario en Latinoamérica.This article proposes the study of Francoism’s agrarian policies and, in particular, the creation and operations of the Servicio de Extensión Agraria (Agrarian Extension Service, 1955), within the context of the diffusion of the Modernization Theory. The article begins by contextualizing the cultural relations between Spain and the United States and their potential projection into the rural sphere. It goes on to focus on the mark left by the United States’ extensionist model on the organization and methodology of the Servicio de Extensión Agraria. Without disregarding the importance of the state level in the implementation and adaptation of the different agrarian policies, the international political and ideological context is also addressed as an element that allows for a broader comprehension and study of said policies

Thinking About Rural Women

Gender offers a vantage point to think and rethink the role of rural women during the Spanish Francoist dictatorship. This article seeks to approach the different models of rural women that became normative in a historical period defined by the imposition of a dictatorship that marked changes in the prevailing models of «being a woman». We intend to approach the analysis of these models and demonstrate that they were built in line with the different models of economic development that defined Spanish agriculture during the dictatorship. We will use sources of various nature, including the press and legislative provisions, which emanated from those institutions that were created to «mold» women into the image and likeness of the constructed ideal. We will pay special attention to the work carried out by the Sección Femenina, through the figure of the rural promoters and the Cátedras Ambulantes, as well as by the Servicio de Extensión Agraria through the figures of the domestic economy agents.El género ofrece una atalaya para pensar y repensar el rol de las mujeres rurales durante la dictadura franquista. En esa convicción, el presente texto busca acercarse a las construcciones ideales sobre los sujetos femeninos que habitaban el medio rural que el poder puso en liza tras la guerra civil. Nuestra meta es aprehender los distintos modelos de mujer rural que se convirtieron en normativos en un periodo histórico definido por la imposición de una dictadura que marcó mudanzas en los modelos de mujer imperantes. Pretendemos acercarnos a su análisis y demostrar que se construyeron en consonancia con los distintos modelos de desarrollo económico que definieron la agricultura española durante la dictadura. Con este objetivo emplearemos fuentes de variadas naturalezas, incluida la prensa y las disposiciones legislativas, que emanaban de aquellas instituciones que fueron creadas para «moldear» a las mujeres rurales a imagen y semejanza del ideal construido. Prestaremos especial atención a la labor desarrollada por Sección Femenina, a través de la figura de las divulgadoras rurales y las Cátedras Ambulantes, así como por el Servicio de Extensión Agraria a partir de las figuras de las agentes de economía doméstica
