On the nature of the spin-polarized hole states in a quasi-two-dimensional GaMnAs ferromagnetic layer
A self-consistent calculation of the density of states and the spectral
density function is performed in a two-dimensional spin-polarized hole system
based on a multiple-scattering approximation. Using parameters corresponding to
GaMnAs thin layers, a wide range of Mn concentrations and hole densities have
been explored to understand the nature, localized or extended, of the
spin-polarized holes at the Fermi level for several values of the average
magnetization of the Mn ystem. We show that, for a certain interval of Mn and
hole densities, an increase on the magnetic order of the Mn ions come together
with a change of the nature of the states at the Fermi level. This fact
provides a delocalization of spin-polarized extended states anti-aligned to the
average Mn magnetization, and a higher spin-polarization of the hole gas. These
results are consistent with the occurrence of ferromagnetism with relatively
high transition temperatures observed in some thin film samples and
multilayered structures of this material.Comment: 3 page
A mid-IR study of Hickson Compact Groups II. Multi-wavelength analysis of the complete GALEX-Spitzer Sample
We present a comprehensive study on the impact of the environment of compact
galaxy groups on the evolution of their members using a multi-wavelength
analysis, from the UV to the infrared, for a sample of 32 Hickson compact
groups (HCGs) containing 135 galaxies. Fitting the SEDs of all galaxies with
the state-of-the-art model of da Cunha (2008) we can accurately calculate their
mass, SFR, and extinction, as well as estimate their infrared luminosity and
dust content. We compare our findings with samples of field galaxies,
early-stage interacting pairs, and cluster galaxies with similar data. We find
that classifying the groups as dynamically "old" or "young", depending on
whether or not at least one quarter of their members are early-type systems, is
physical and consistent with past classifications of HCGs based on their atomic
gas content. [...ABRIDGED...] We also examine their SF properties, UV-optical
and mid-IR colors, and we conclude that all the evidence point to an
evolutionary scenario in which the effects of the group environment and the
properties of the galaxy members are not instantaneous. Early on, the influence
of close companions to group galaxies is similar to the one of galaxy pairs in
the field. However, as the time progresses, the effects of tidal torques and
minor merging, shape the morphology and star formation history of the group
galaxies, leading to an increase of the fraction of early-type members and a

Fluorine in a Carbon-Enhanced Metal-Poor Star
The fluorine abundance of the Carbon-Enhanced Metal-Poor (CEMP) star HE
1305+0132 has been derived by analysis of the molecular HF (1-0) R9 line at
2.3357 microns in a high-resolution (R = 50,000) spectrum obtained with the
Phoenix spectrometer and Gemini-South telescope. Our abundance analysis makes
use of a CNO-enhanced ATLAS12 model atmosphere characterized by a metallicity
and CNO enhancements determined utilizing medium-resolution (R = 3,000) optical
and near-IR spectra. The effective iron abundance is found to be [Fe/H] = -2.5,
making HE 1305+0132 the most Fe-deficient star, by more than an order of
magnitude, for which the abundance of fluorine has been measured. Using
spectral synthesis, we derive a super-solar fluorine abundance of A(19F) = 4.96
+/- 0.21, corresponding to a relative abundance of [F/Fe] = 2.90. A single line
of the Phillips C_2 system is identified in our Phoenix spectrum, and along
with multiple lines of the first-overtone vibration-rotation CO (3-1) band
head, C and O abundances of A(12C) = 8.57 +/- 0.11 and A(16O) = 7.04 +/- 0.14
are derived. We consider the striking fluorine overabundance in the framework
of the nucleosynthetic processes thought to be responsible for the
C-enhancement of CEMP stars and conclude that the atmosphere of HE 1305+0132
was polluted via mass transfer by a primary companion during its asymptotic
giant branch phase. This is the first study of fluorine in a CEMP star, and it
demonstrates that this rare nuclide can be a key diagnostic of nucleosynthetic

Refactoring smelly spreadsheet models
Identifying bad design patterns in software is a successful and inspiring research trend. While these patterns do not necessarily correspond to software errors, the fact is that they raise potential problematic issues, often referred to as code smells, and that can for example compromise maintainability or evolution. The identification of code smells in spreadsheets, which can be viewed as software development environments for non-professional programmers, has already been the subject of confluent researches by different groups. While these research groups have focused on detecting smells on concrete spreadsheets, or spreadsheet instances, in this paper we propose a comprehensive set of smells for abstract representations of spreadsheets, or spreadsheet models. We also propose a set of refactorings suggesting how spreadsheet models can become simpler to understand, manipulate and evolve. The role of turbulent pressure as a coherent pulsational driving mechanism: the case of the delta Scuti star HD 187547
HD 187547 was the first candidate that led to the suggestion that solar-like
oscillations are present in delta Scuti stars. Longer observations, however,
show that the modes interpreted as solar-like oscillations have either very
long mode lifetimes, longer than 960 days, or are coherent. These results are
incompatible with the nature of `pure' stochastic excitation as observed in
solar-like stars. Nonetheless, one point is certain: the opacity mechanism
alone cannot explain the oscillation spectrum of HD 187547. Here we present new
theoretical investigations showing that convection dynamics can intrinsically
excite coherent pulsations in the chemically peculiar delta Scuti star HD
187547. More precisely, it is the perturbations of the mean Reynold stresses
(turbulent pressure) that drives the pulsations and the excitation takes place

Consensus must be found on intravenous fluid therapy management in trauma patients
Introduction: Trauma is an important cause of death among young people and 30-40% of this mortality rate is due to hypovolemic shock, intensified by trauma's lethal triad: Hypothermia, Acidosis, and Coagulopathy. Nurses are responsible for managing fluid therapy administration in trauma victims. The purpose of this study is to analyse the reasons why intravenous fluid therapy is recommended for trauma patients' hemodynamic stabilization.
Methods: This narrative literature review included published and unpublished studies in English, Spanish or Portuguese between 1994 and January 2019. The search results were analyzed by two independent reviewers. Inclusion criteria encompasses quantitative studies involving trauma victims aged over 18 who underwent fluid therapy in a prehospital assessment context.
Results&Discussion: 11 quantitative studies were included. 9 involved the use of fluid therapy for hypotension treatment and 2 of the studies analyzed involved the use of warmed fluid therapy for hypothermia treatment. The analysis performed reveals that the administration of aggressive fluid therapy seems to be responsible for the worsening of the lethal triad. In the presence of traumatic brain injury, permissive hypotension is not allowed due to the negative impact on cerebral perfusion pressure. Used as warming measure, warmed fluid therapy does not seem to have a significant impact on body temperature.
Conclusions: There is no consensus regarding the administration of fluid therapy to trauma patients. This conclusion clearly supports the need to develop more randomized controlled trials in order to understand the effectiveness of such measure when it comes to control hypovolemia and hypothermia.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
