Ancient Cartographies as a Basis for Geolocation Models in Public Space: The Case of Giambattista Nolli and its Heritage Application
In 1748, the architect and surveyor Giambattista Nolli mapped an abstract reality of the city of Rome. As a challenge to the inherited projections, it represented the city mixing streets, halls, corridors, churches, baths and markets as part of a unique public space network. A new way to design public space and rethink the whole urban system was opened by the possibility of containing in these representations a single layer with all kinds of public space (including the interior of public buildings). Despite this, Nolli's plan remained as a useless instrument since the hegemony of automobile mobility appeared as a pre-eminent system. This research tries to understand how the application of the ancient cartographies' methodology can improve the pedestrian mobility of historic cities by means of enhancing the graphic value of the system of Giambattista Nolli. Nowadays, free public space is represented as empty and built ones, as solid. This proposal would revert this reified conception of the city, understanding this baroque representation as an instrument of identification and assessment of the transitional heritage. The clues unveiled by Nolli seem to be able to integrate the plans of public buildings within the urban tissue, which would result in a step towards the full integration of cartography and mobility. The success of the comprehensive tools offered by large servers such as Alphabet inc. (Google) or Bing Maps confirm the suitability of the combination of new technologies and Big Data with urban planning, reaching the synchronisation of Smart Cities. Nowadays, open public space can be 'walked in' from any electronic device, consequently, the application of the "Nolli methodology" would implement the model of urban geolocation with the assimilation of inner public spaces. In the creation of a great global map of the public space, a chimaera could be intuited. This would be discussed within a tangible reality: every open public space is already housed in the Big Data and it is accessible through geolocation tools. The inclusion of the of the public buildings' interiors would contribute to develop a greater permeability between city and citizens. Furthermore, this representation would optimize pedestrian travel times and would be able to expand the geolocation system network as a documentary repository

Permanence, adaptation or reuse: transformations in the convents of the city of Seville
The rich history of the city of Seville has provided it a wide architectural heritage, which is necessary to preserve. In the early twentieth century, Spain began to express concern about the preservation of its historical legacy, trying to protect historical and artistic monuments. However, it was not until the arrival of the democratic political system that this awareness of preservation took true precedence over other matters. In this temporal context, the young Andalusian Government was looking for definitive venues for the new institutions, with the target of the upcoming Universal Exhibition of Seville in 1992. The recognized architect Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra was commissioned to study a range of buildings in the city susceptible of hosting new uses, published in the book "Cien Edificios de Sevilla, susceptibles de reutilización para usos institucionales". This work has become a reference catalogue of Sevillian-built heritage. Looking at the one hundred (100) buildings studied there, all of a certain scale in the city, 18 are convents or exconvents. This paper will try to find out the destiny of these buildings themselves as monastic heritage, but also in relationship to other types of heritages
Genetic diversity in two variants of Orobanche gracilis Sm. [var. gracilis and var. deludens (Beck) A. Pujadas] (Orobanchaceae) from different regions of Spain
The pattern of genetic variation among populations of
two Orobanche gracilis Sm. taxa (var. gracilis and var.
deludens (Beck) A. Pujadas) from Northern and Southern Spain growing on different hosts was analysed
using RAPD markers. The diversity analysis within
populations revealed a higher level of diversity in the populations from the North when compared to the
Southern ones. The results of principal co-ordinate
analysis (PCoA) based on Dice distances among samples
clearly established the separation of samples according
to the taxonomical variety and the geographical origin
of each population. The Southern populations of both
var. gracilis and var. deludens were more differentiated
among them than those of var. gracilis from the North.
The analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) indicated
that the lowest level of population differentiation was
found in O. gracilis var. gracilis from the North,
whereas in the case of O. gracilis var. deludens from the
South most of the genetic diversity was attributable to
differences among populations. Possible explanations
for the distribution of variation in these populations are

Biodegradable films with bioactive properties
Passive packaging as a physical barrier between the food and its environment does not allow beneficial interactions. On the other hand, the accumulation of the plastic material derived from petroleum used in the packaging is a global problem, because of its polluting nature. Due to the above, the development of new materials for packaging that offer new functionalities, less environmental impact, and also, economic benefit, is currently a necessity. This review compiled widely available information on advances in the development of biodegradable films, especially those based on starch, which can be considered as active packaging by the incorporation of antimicrobial and/or antioxidant additives. In general, the research is oriented towards antimicrobial packaging systems and/or with antioxidant activity with a focus on biodegradable films made from polysaccharides and other materials.UCR::Vicerrectoría de Docencia::Ciencias Agroalimentarias::Facultad de Ciencias Agroalimentarias::Escuela de Tecnología de AlimentosUCR::Vicerrectoría de Investigación::Unidades de Investigación::Ciencias Agroalimentarias::Centro Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología de Alimentos (CITA
p38γ is essential for cell cycle progression and liver tumorigenesis
The cell cycle is a tightly regulated process that is controlled by the conserved cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK)–cyclin protein complex1. However, control of the G0-to-G1 transition is not completely understood. Here we demonstrate that p38 MAPK gamma (p38γ) acts as a CDK-like kinase and thus cooperates with CDKs, regulating entry into the cell cycle. p38γ shares high sequence homology, inhibition sensitivity and substrate specificity with CDK family members. In mouse hepatocytes, p38γ induces proliferation after partial hepatectomy by promoting the phosphorylation of retinoblastoma tumour suppressor protein at known CDK target residues. Lack of p38γ or treatment with the p38γ inhibitor pirfenidone protects against the chemically induced formation of liver tumours. Furthermore, biopsies of human hepatocellular carcinoma show high expression of p38γ, suggesting that p38γ could be a therapeutic target in the treatment of this disease
