Ducks and Deer, Profit and Pleasure: Hunters, Games and the Natural Landscapes of Medieval Italy

This dissertation is an ample and thorough assessment of hunting in late medieval and Renaissance northern and central Italy. Hunting took place in a variety of landscapes and invested animal species. Both of these had been influenced by human activities for centuries. Hunting had deep cultural significance for a range of social groups, each of which had different expectations and limitations on their use of their local game animal-habitat complexes. Hunting in medieval Italy was business, as well as recreation. The motivations and hunting dynamics (techniques) of different groups of hunters were closely interconnected. This mutuality is central to understanding hunting. It also deeply affected consumption, the ultimate reason behind hunting. In all cases, although hunting was a marginal activity, it did not stand in isolation from other activities of resource extraction. Actual practice at all levels was framed by socio-economic and legal frameworks. While some hunters were bound by these frameworks, others attempted to operate as if they did not matter. This resulted in the co-existence and sometimes competition between several different hunts and established different sets of knowledge and ways to think about game animals and the natural world. The present work traces game animals from their habitats to the dinner table through the material practices and cultural interpretation of a variety of social actors to offer an original and thorough survey of the topic

Genero, rotina escolar e professoras

Durante nosso estudo, nos referenciaremos nos estudos de Guacira Lopes Louro (1997; 2000; 2008), discutindo temáticas relacionadas a gênero, tais como: a relação entre o feminino e o masculino dentro da sala de aula e da escola; a inferiorização do feminino em relação ao masculino; a docência como sendo um papel inerente às mulheres; e as rotinas que criam e ou reforçam a segregação entre meninos e menina

The simplicial volume of 3-manifolds with boundary

We provide sharp lower bounds for the simplicial volume of compact $3$-manifolds in terms of the simplicial volume of their boundaries. As an application, we compute the simplicial volume of several classes of $3$-manifolds, including handlebodies and products of surfaces with the interval. Our results provide the first exact computation of the simplicial volume of a compact manifold whose boundary has positive simplicial volume. We also compute the minimal number of tetrahedra in a (loose) triangulation of the product of a surface with the interval.Comment: 24 pages, 5 figures. Noções mafessolianas e a sexualidade

O presente artigo problematizou a sexualidade fundamentada em algumas noções de Michel Mafessoli, tais como, a errância, o desvio, a duplicidade, o nomadismo, o movimento entre as lógicas do "dever-ser" e do "querer-viver" . Consideramos a sexualidade como elemento constituinte da vida, independente de faixa etária, classe social, etnia ou crença religiosa, ou seja, como um fenômeno cotidiano que se expressa com particularidades no decorrer das nossas vidas nos diferentes espaços sociais. Nosso caminho de pesquisa foi o entrelaçamento das experiências vivenciadas nas docências de atividades extensionistas e de pesquisa sobre a temática em voga, com a revisão bibliográfica de algumas obras do teórico citado. O movimento entre as lógicas do "dever-ser" e do "querer-viver" evidencia que, apesar das imposições sociais da igreja e da famí­lia, criamos formas de vivenciar a sexualidade que escapam do instituí­do

ENTRELAÇANDO MEMÓRIA E EXPERIÊNCIA NA TESSITURA DA

Our article presents preliminary reflections regarding the narrative concepts,experience and memory in Walter Benjamin and some notes on verbal history. In theattempt to apprehend the substratum of the sexuality imaginary of the initial years teachersof the basic education - our current subject of inquiry -, we opt to Thematic Verbal Historyas metodological instrument, for considering it a possibility of interlacing the orality withthe writing, for in there´s distinct values. In elapsing of the work with collaborators verbalhistories, for the process of understanding of the narratives we perceived the requirementof the theoretical apprehension of the experience concepts, memory and narrative, whichgain meaning from the dialogue with Walter Benjamin. We identified, also with theteacher´s interviews, the difficulty to interchange experiences, what, according to this sametheoretician, can be the result of the new form of work organization in the moderncapitalism, of the workers´ specialization in specific functions, the division in differentplaces and spaces, of the acceleration of the productive process, aspects that unchain theindividual, solitary experiences, and of its symbolic death. With base in these references, theteacher´s lines - collaborators of the research that originated these initial theoreticalreflections - will be considered as narratives full of lived experiences, socialization oftraditions, sensibility, images, individual histories constructed in collective history, ofpeople located in one determined place and is about this place they talk, they feel, theyrecollect, they mean and re-mean.Nosso artigo apresenta reflexões preliminares a respeito dos conceitos denarrativa, experiência e memória em Walter Benjamin e alguns apontamentos sobre ahistória oral. Na tentativa de apreender o substrato do imaginário da sexualidade dosprofessores dos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental - nosso atual tema de investigação –,optamos pela História Oral Temática como instrumento metodológico, por considerá-lauma possibilidade de entrecruzamento da oralidade com a escrita, sendo que entre ambashá valores distintos. No transcorrer do trabalho com as histórias orais dos colaboradores, para o processo de compreensão das narrativas percebemos a exigência da apreensãoteórica dos conceitos de experiência, memória e narrativa, os quais ganham significado apartir do diálogo com Walter Benjamin. Identificamos, também com as entrevistas dosprofessores, a dificuldade de intercambiar experiências, o que, segundo esse mesmoteórico, pode ser o resultado da nova forma de organização do trabalho no capitalismomoderno, da especialização dos trabalhadores em funções específicas, da divisão em lugarese espaços diferentes, da aceleração do processo produtivo, aspectos esses desencadeadoresde experiências individuais, solitárias, e da sua morte simbólica. Com base nessesreferenciais, as falas dos professores – colaboradores da pesquisa que originou essasreflexões teóricas iniciais – serão consideradas como narrativas repletas de experiênciasvividas, de socialização de tradições, de sensibilidades, de imagens, de histórias individuaisconstruídas na história coletiva, de pessoas localizadas num determinado lugar e é deste quefalam, sentem, rememoram, significam e ressignificam
