Some Factors which May Influence Survival of Game Farm-Reared Pheasants after Release into the Wild
This study was undertaken in an attempt to determine some of the factors which may influence the survival of Utah game farm-reared pheasants following their release into the wild. The survival of these birds is below the desired level after they are released, as is indicated by the low percentage taken by the sportsmen during the hunting season. In recent years the return from released game farm-reared pheasants is about 7 to 8 percent. Consequently, if survival rate of these birds could be increased, more birds would be available to supplement the wild stock. Also, an increase in the pheasant population throughout the state would make more birds available to sportsmen during the hunting season
Liberation theology to Evangelicalism : the rise of Bolsonaro and the conservative Evangelical advance in post-colonial Brazil
The rapid rise of the Evangelical churches in Brazil will, by current projections see its adherents not only outnumber Catholics, but also reduce them to a religious minority within the coming decades. If accurate, it will mean that the Catholic church, which has dominated Latin American religious life since European colonisation in the 16th century, will have ended. The expansion of Evangelicalism has created a massive political and cultural shift in post-colonial Brazil, where many of the Catholic poor are increasingly turning to the conservatism of Evangelical preachers. The paper examines the historical relationship between the Evangelical churches and the United States to counter leftist currents in post-colonial Latin America; the impact Evangelicalism has had on Brazilian society and politics; the exploitation of Brazil’s poor by some Evangelical churches; and the Evangelical drive behind the rise of Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro
Finite reduction and Morse index estimates for mechanical systems
A simple version of exact finite dimensional reduction for the variational
setting of mechanical systems is presented. It is worked out by means of a
thorough global version of the implicit function theorem for monotone
operators. Moreover, the Hessian of the reduced function preserves all the
relevant information of the original one, by Schur's complement, which
spontaneously appears in this context. Finally, the results are
straightforwardly extended to the case of a Dirichlet problem on a bounded

Octupole strength in the neutron-rich calcium isotopes
Low-lying excited states of the neutron-rich calcium isotopes Ca
have been studied via -ray spectroscopy following inverse-kinematics
proton scattering on a liquid hydrogen target using the GRETINA -ray
tracking array. The energies and strengths of the octupole states in these
isotopes are remarkably constant, indicating that these states are dominated by

Octupole fragmentation and the structure of the O(6)-like Ba nuclei
The low energy octupole states in {sup 134}Ba were examined using proton inelastic scattering. The data show that there is no significant octupole strength in addition to that corresponding to the lowest 3{sup -} state. Consequently, the strong fragmentation of the low energy octupole state expected for a {gamma} soft nucleus does not occur in {sup 134}Ba. The apparent contradiction that the positive parity states in this nucleus present an O(6) type structure and the negative parity ones do not follow the selection rules of the E3 operator for the O(6) symmetry might be explained by noticing that the wave function of an O(6) nucleus has a significant overlap with the wave function of an U(5) - SU(3) transitional nucleus. 9 refs., 3 figs., 2 tabs

inverse-kinematics proton scattering and one-neutron knockout from Ti by
a liquid hydrogen target, using the GRETINA -ray tracking array.
Inelastic proton-scattering cross sections and deformation lengths have been
determined. A low-lying octupole state has been tentatively identified in
Ti for the first time. A comparison of results on low-energy
octupole states in the neutron-rich Ca and Ti isotopes with the results of
Random Phase Approximation calculations demonstrates that the observed

Population of bound excited states in intermediate-energy fragmentation reactions
Fragmentation reactions with intermediate-energy heavy-ion beams exhibit a
wide range of reaction mechanisms, ranging from direct reactions to statistical
processes. We examine this transition by measuring the relative population of
excited states in several sd-shell nuclei produced by fragmentation with the
number of removed nucleons ranging from two to sixteen. The two-nucleon removal
is consistent with a non-dissipative process whereas the removal of more than
five nucleons appears to be mainly statistical.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figure
News discourses on distant suffering: A critical discourse analysis of the 2003 SARS outbreak
News carries a unique signifying power, a power to represent events in particular ways (Fairclough, 1995). Applying Critical Discourse Analysis and Chouliaraki's theory on the mediation of suffering (2006), this article explores the news representation of the 2003 global SARS outbreak. Following a case-based methodology, we investigate how two Belgian television stations have covered the international outbreak of SARS. By looking into the mediation of four selected discursive moments, underlying discourses of power, hierarchy and compassion were unraveled. The analysis further identified the key role of proximity in international news reporting and supports the claim that Western news media mainly reproduce a Euro-American centered world order. This article argues that news coverage of international crises such as SARS constructs and maintains the socio-cultural difference between 'us' and 'them' as well as articulating global power hierarchies and a division of the world in zones of poverty and prosperity, danger and safety
