This article studies the theory of language in Condillac's philosophy. It describes the evolution in the theory of linguistic sign, from the concept of arbitrary sign in the Essai sur l'origine des connaissances humaines (1746) to the concept of artifcial sign in the Grammaire (1775). It aims at demonstrating how the reject of the concept of arbitrary sign is related to a new theory of natural progress of language and knowledge in the Grammaire and to Condillac's fight against the abuse of language as the main enemy of the develop of right knowledge and right sciences
In this article I propose a semiotic investigation of images of jobs. The aim is not to analyze the social representation of the job, but to explore if there remains a present-day image of the job, and what are its historical and social conditions of existence. The problem is to study the relation between social structure and the image of the job. First, following Foucault’s studies on disciplinary society, the relation between disciplinary society and the image of labour in the factory will be described. This is followed by an account of the problematic passage from disciplinary society to what Deleuze called a “society of control”. Giving particular consideration to Foucault’s theory of power/knowledge relations and Deleuze’s semiotic reading of this theory, the new social organization of jobs, activities and times will be investigated. Social structure is changing from disciplinary and striated space, such as the space of the factory, to the smooth space of dispersion, like the space of the market. The image of the job changes from the image of the workforce to the image of human capital. Finally, rethinking Foucault’s lectures on biopolitics, the relation between the market and hu- man capital will be analyzed. My hypothesis is that it is not possible to have an image of the job as human capital in the present: the concept of human capital coincides with the human being and its capability, but there is no longer any specific space for the market, given that the market permeates every space of life
La disciplina di fabbrica. Uno studio tematico. Analisi di "Donnarumma all’assalto" di Ottiero Ottieri e "Vogliamo tutto" di Nanni Balestrini
In this paper I analyze the representation of the factory as “disciplinary structure” in twoItalian novels of the second half of the Twentieth Century. First I explain a revisited approach ofthematic criticism on the basis of semiotics. Then, considering the concept of “discipline”, I study themise en scène of the factory, especially of the knowledge relations and power relations, in Ottieri’sDonnarumma all’assalto and Balestrini’s Vogliamo tutto. Finally I present two connected approaches onepistemology and politics of literature to study the relations between text and reality on the literary field
I luoghi di Marghera. Appunti per una geologia urbana
In this article I analyze the founding of the city of Marghera and the industrial zone of Porto Marghera. I practice an "urban geology" to research the stratification of power relations, constitutive of their realization and dynamics. The first part is on the founding of Marghera: considering Foucault's studies on the governance practices of the space and Deleuze's book of Foucault, I study the project of founding of Marghera, as "garden city" and worikng-class town, to demonstrate the failure of this and describe how the power relations determine the development of residential areas. In the second part I consider Hirschman's studies on developing economies to study the dynamics of power relations in the industial zone, especially in the ages of workers' struggles
Factory discipline. A thematic study. Analysis of Ottiero Ottieri's Donnarumma all’assalto and Nanni Balestrini's Vogliamo tutto
In this paper I analyze the representation of the factory as “disciplinary structure” in two

Introduction. On Semiotics of Economic Discourse
This special issue of Ocula on economic discourse we would like to be a first and pioneering work on semiotic studies and analysis of economy. Our aims are to fill a gap in semiotic literature, to carry out a reconnaissance on this field and to collect semiotic contributions opening to some ways of semiotic investigations on economy. There is not currently a systematic and specific work on economic discourse in the semiotic literature. We think that the economic discourse is a special field for the semiotic interdisciplinarity analysing historical and specially present economic conditions
