Enabling Prescription-based Health Apps
We describe an innovative framework for prescription of personalised health
apps by integrating Personal Health Records (PHR) with disease-specific mobile
applications for managing medical conditions and the communication with
clinical professionals. The prescribed apps record multiple variables including
medical history enriched with innovative features such as integration with
medical monitoring devices and wellbeing trackers to provide patients and
clinicians with a personalised support on disease management. Our framework is
based on an existing PHR ecosystem called TreC, uniquely positioned between
healthcare provider and the patients, which is being used by over 70.000
patients in Trentino region in Northern Italy. We also describe three important
aspects of health app prescription and how medical information is automatically
encoded through the TreC framework and is prescribed as a personalised app,
ready to be installed in the patients' smartphone
Influence of milk, corn starch, and baking conditions on the starch digestibility, gelatinization, and fracture stress of biscuits
Dough for nontraditional semisweet biscuits—prepared with wheat flour or replacing part of the wheat flour with corn starch, with or without skim milk—was baked at two oven temperatures, 120 or 170°C, until reaching moisture content and water activity lower than 6% and 0.5, respectively. Assays of fracture stress, differential scanning calorimetry, X‐ray diffraction, and starch digestibility were performed. Results showed that biscuits containing milk had the highest fracture stress, and biscuits baked at low temperature were harder than biscuits baked at high temperature. The degree of starch gelatinization during baking was higher when dough was baked at 170°C, compared with dough baked at 120°C. The decrease in gelatinization coincides with the decrease in the height and surface of peaks at 15 and 23° in the X‐ray diffraction patterns. Milk and corn starch did not affect the starch digestibility of biscuits, but biscuits baked at 170°C presented lower fracture stress and higher starch digestibility than biscuits baked at 120°C.Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias y ForestalesFacultad de Ciencias ExactasCentro de Investigación y Desarrollo en Criotecnología de Alimento

Breast Cancer-Related Neoplastic Alopecia: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Neoplastic alopecia (NA) is defined as an organized hair loss in single or multiple areas of the scalp caused by a primary tumor that has metastasized to the skin of the scalp. Due to its localization and clinical appearance, NA should be placed in differential diagnosis with alopecia areata or other entities. To date, pathognomonic dermoscopic criteria of NA have not yet been described: the absence of classical criteria of other scalp diseases in addition to a major neovascularization with on-focus arborizing vessels and erosions or ulcerations may help the clinician to suspect a diagnosis of secondary alopecia. Dermatologists should pay more attention to these rare forms of secondarism because in exceptional cases, a simple alopecia of the scalp can hide a new, relapsing or metastatic neoplasia
Case and Activity Identification for Mining Process Models from Middleware
Process monitoring aims to provide transparency over operational aspects of a business process. In practice, it is a challenge that traces of business process executions span across a number of diverse systems. It is cumbersome manual engineering work to identify which attributes in unstructured event data can serve as case and activity identifiers for extracting and monitoring the business process. Approaches from literature assume that these identifiers are known a priori and data is readily available in formats like eXtensible Event Stream (XES). However, in practice this is hardly the case, specifically when event data from different sources are pooled together in event stores. In this paper, we address this research gap by inferring potential case and activity identifiers in a provenance agnostic way. More specifically, we propose a semi-automatic technique for discovering event relations that are semantically relevant for business process monitoring. The results are evaluated in an industry case study with an international telecommunication provider
Geographical discrimination of honeys through antioxidant capacity, mineral content and colour
The assessment of geographical origin of honey is economically important for producers and consumers as every region may present particular quality characteristics. In this study, honeys from the seven different regions of Buenos Aires province (Argentina) were characterised by their antioxidant capacity (DPPH, FRAP), total phenolic content (TPC), mineral composition, colour and ash. Honeys showed significant differences among their antioxidant capacity (DPPH), ash, colour and mineral content (P ≤ 0.05). Besides, a good antioxidant activity and low amounts of Cu and Zn (<1.0–1.5 and 0.7–1.8 mg kg 1, respectively) were found in the samples. Significant Pearson’s correlations (P ≤ 0.05) among the different parameters were found. Moreover, the linear discriminant analysis allowed the classification of honeys in their original groups with a prediction success of 98%. The present results suggest that honeys could be correctly classified by their geographical origin through their TPC, colour, ash and mineral concentrations.Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo en Criotecnología de AlimentosCentro de Investigación y Desarrollo en Fermentaciones Industriale
The On-Site Analysis of the Cherenkov Telescope Array
The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) observatory will be one of the largest
ground-based very high-energy gamma-ray observatories. The On-Site Analysis
will be the first CTA scientific analysis of data acquired from the array of
telescopes, in both northern and southern sites. The On-Site Analysis will have
two pipelines: the Level-A pipeline (also known as Real-Time Analysis, RTA) and
the level-B one. The RTA performs data quality monitoring and must be able to
issue automated alerts on variable and transient astrophysical sources within
30 seconds from the last acquired Cherenkov event that contributes to the
alert, with a sensitivity not worse than the one achieved by the final pipeline
by more than a factor of 3. The Level-B Analysis has a better sensitivity (not
be worse than the final one by a factor of 2) and the results should be
available within 10 hours from the acquisition of the data: for this reason
this analysis could be performed at the end of an observation or next morning.
The latency (in particular for the RTA) and the sensitivity requirements are
challenging because of the large data rate, a few GByte/s. The remote
connection to the CTA candidate site with a rather limited network bandwidth
makes the issue of the exported data size extremely critical and prevents any
kind of processing in real-time of the data outside the site of the telescopes.
For these reasons the analysis will be performed on-site with infrastructures
co-located with the telescopes, with limited electrical power availability and
with a reduced possibility of human intervention. This means, for example, that
the on-site hardware infrastructure should have low-power consumption. A
substantial effort towards the optimization of high-throughput computing
service is envisioned to provide hardware and software solutions with
high-throughput, low-power consumption at a low-cost.Comment: In Proceedings of the 34th International Cosmic Ray Conference

First-episode psychosis and migration in Italy (PEP-Ita migration): a study in the Italian mental health services
BACKGROUND: It has been frequently reported a higher incidence of psychotic disorders in immigrants than in native populations. There is, however, a lack of knowledge about risk factors which may explain this phenomenon. A better understanding of the causes of psychosis among first-generation migrants is highly needed, particularly in Italy, a country with a recent massive migration. METHODS/DESIGN: The "Italian study on first-episode psychosis and migration (PEP-Ita)" is a prospective observational study over a two-year period (1 January 2012-31 December 2013) which will be carried out in 11 Italian mental health centres. All participating centres will collect data about all new cases of migrants with first-episode psychosis. The general purpose ("core") of the PEP-Ita study is to explore the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics, and the pathways to care of a population of first-episode psychosis migrants in Italy. Secondary aims of the study will be: 1) to understand risk and protective factors for the development of psychotic disorders in migrants; 2) to evaluate the correlations between psychopathology of psychotic disorders in migrants and socio-demographic characteristics, migration history, life experiences; 3) to evaluate the clinical and social outcomes of first-episode psychoses in migrants. DISCUSSION: The results of the PEP-Ita study will allow a better understanding of risk factors for psychosis in first-generation migrants in Italy. Moreover, our results will contribute to the development of prevention programmes for psychosis and to the improvement of early intervention treatments for the migrant population in Italy
