A New Source for Electroweak Baryogenesis in the MSSM
One of the most experimentally testable explanations for the origin of the
baryon asymmetry of the universe is that it was created during the electroweak
phase transition, in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. Previous
efforts have focused on the current for the difference of the two Higgsino
fields, , as the source of biasing sphalerons to create the baryon
asymmetry. We point out that the current for the orthogonal linear combination,
, is larger by several orders of magnitude. Although this increases
the efficiency of electroweak baryogenesis, we nevertheless find that large
CP-violating angles are required to get a large enough baryon
asymmetry.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures; numerical error corrected, which implies that
large CP violation is needed to get observed baryon asymmetry. We improved
solution of diffusion equations, and computed more accurate values for
diffusion coefficient and damping rate
Semiclassical force for electroweak baryogenesis: three-dimensional derivation
We derive a semiclassical transport equation for fermions propagating in the
presence of a CP-violating planar bubble wall at a first order electroweak
phase transition. Starting from the Kadanoff-Baym (KB) equation for the
two-point (Wightman) function we perform an expansion in gradients, or
equivalently in the Planck constant h-bar. We show that to first order in h-bar
the KB equations have a spectral solution, which allows for an on-shell
description of the plasma excitations. The CP-violating force acting on these
excitations is found to be enhanced by a boost factor in comparison with the
1+1-dimensional case studied in a former paper. We find that an identical
semiclassical force can be obtained by the WKB method. Applications to the MSSM
are also mentioned.Comment: 19 page
Transient domain walls and lepton asymmetry in the Left-Right symmetric model
It is shown that the dynamics of domain walls in Left-Right symmetric models,
separating respective regions of unbroken SU(2)_L and SU(2)_R in the early
universe, can give rise to baryogenesis via leptogenesis. Neutrinos have a
spatially varying complex mass matrix due to CP-violating scalar condensates in
the domain wall. The motion of the wall through the plasma generates a flux of
lepton number across the wall which is converted to a lepton asymmetry by
helicity-flipping scatterings. Subsequent processing of the lepton excess by
sphalerons results in the observed baryon asymmetry, for a range of parameters
in Left-Right symmetric models.Comment: v2 version accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. D. Discussion in

Mixing-induced CP violating sources for electroweak baryogenesis from a semiclassical approach
The effects of flavor mixing in electroweak baryogenesis is investigated in a
generalized semiclassical WKB approach. Through calculating the nonadiabatic
corrections to the particle currents it is shown that extra CP violation
sources arise from the off-diagonal part of the equation of motion of particles
moving inside the bubble wall. This type of mixing-induced source is of the
first order in derivative expansion of the Higgs condensate, but is oscillation
suppressed. The numerical importance of the mixing-induced source is discussed
in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and compared with the source term
induced by semiclassical force. It is found that in a large parameter space
where oscillation suppression is not strong enough, the mixing-induced source
can dominate over that from the semiclassical force.Comment: 19 pp, 2 figs, 1 table, some comments added, to appear in

Leptogenesis with Left-Right domain walls
The presence of domain walls separating regions of unbroken and
is shown to provide necessary conditions for leptogenesis which
converts later to the observed Baryon aymmetry. The strength of lepton number
violation is related to the majorana neutrino mass and hence related to current
bounds on light neutrino masses. Thus the observed neutrino masses and the
Baryon asymmetry can be used to constrain the scale of Left-Right symmetry
breaking.Comment: References added, To appear in Praman
Effect of reheating on electroweak baryogenesis
The latent heat released during the expansion of bubbles in the electroweak
phase transition reheats the plasma and causes the bubble growth to slow down.
This decrease of the bubble wall velocity affects the result of electroweak
baryogenesis. Since the efficiency of baryogenesis peaks for a wall velocity
, the resulting baryon asymmetry can either be enhanced or
suppressed, depending on the initial value of the wall velocity. We calculate
the evolution of the phase transition taking into account the release of latent
heat. We find that, although in the SM the baryon production is enhanced by
this effect, in the MSSM it causes a suppression to the final baryon asymmetry.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures. References added. Revised version to be published

Towards a Nonequilibrium Quantum Field Theory Approach to Electroweak Baryogenesis
We propose a general method to compute -violating observables from
extensions of the standard model in the context of electroweak baryogenesis. It
is alternative to the one recently developed by Huet and Nelson and relies on a
nonequilibrium quantum field theory approach. The method is valid for all
shapes and sizes of the bubble wall expanding in the thermal bath during a
first-order electroweak phase transition. The quantum physics of -violation
and its suppression coming from the incoherent nature of thermal processes are
also made explicit.Comment: 19 pages, 1 figure available upon e-mail reques
Electroweak Phase Transitions in left-right symmetric models
We study the finite-temperature effective potential of minimal left-right
symmetric models containing a bidoublet and two triplets in the scalar sector.
We perform a numerical analysis of the parameter space compatible with the
requirement that baryon asymmetry is not washed out by sphaleron processes
after the electroweak phase transition. We find that the spectrum of scalar
particles for these acceptable cases is consistent with present experimental
bounds.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures (included), some comments added, typos corrected

Neutral Heavy Leptons and Electroweak Baryogenesis
We investigate the possibility that baryogenesis occurs during the weak phase
transition in a minimal extension of the Standard Model which contains extra
neutral leptons and conserves total lepton number. The necessary CP-violating
phases appear in the leptonic Yukawa couplings. We compute the CP-asymmetries
in both the neutral and the charged lepton fluxes reflected on the bubble wall.
Using present experimental bounds on the mixing angles and Standard Model
estimates for the parameters related to the scalar potential, we conclude that
it seems unlikely to produce the observed baryon to entropy ratio within this
type of models. We comment on the possibility that the constraints on the
mixings might be naturally relaxed due to small finite temperature effects.Comment: 21 pages (4 Figures
