In this paper, we aimed at assessing the best conditions for the isolation of actinobacteria from old potato samples. A set of media and pretreatments were tested. The optimal were chosen for the isolation of actinobacteria from potatoes from Peru, Chile and Argentina. Isolates were tested on the presence of thaxtomin phytotoxin by amplification of the respective gene. Phylogenetic position of strains was compared with their geographical origin, pathogenic potential and existence of common scab (CS) symptoms on potato sample. We demonstrated that RNAlater can be successfully used for the long-term preservation of potato peel for subsequent isolation of actinobacteria on R2A medium. Many streptomycetes were thaxtomin-positive, though they are distantly-related to described pathogens causing CS. Genus Nocardia was first reported to be thaxtomin-positive. Potentially pathogenic strains were isolated not only from infected potato but also from those lacking CS symptoms. Some strains from scabby potatoes were thaxtomin-negative.EEA BalcarceFil: Rapoport, Daria. Charles University in Prague. Faculty opf Science, República Checa. High-visibility interference fringes with femtosecond laser radiation

    Get PDF
We propose and experimentally demonstrate an interferometer for femtosecond pulses with spectral bandwidth about 100 nm. The scheme is based on a Michelson interferometer with a dispersion compensating module. A diffractive lens serves the purpose of equalizing the optical-path-length difference for a wide range of frequencies. In this way, it is possible to register high-contrast interference fringes with micrometric resolution over the whole area of a commercial CCD sensor for broadband femtosecond pulse

Spatial-chirp compensation in dynamical holograms reconstructed with ultrafast lasers

A computer generated hologram (CGH) reconstructed with a sub-100-fs laser pulse at the focal plane of a conventional refractive lens experiences a large amount of spatial chirp. We report the shaping of a 12 fs laser pulsed beam by means of a Fourier CGH implemented onto a spatial light modulator, using a hybrid diffractive-refractive lens triplet that provides spatial-chirp compensation. Experimental results demonstrate that parallel, arbitrary, and high-resolution patterning is possible with the proposed devic

Molecular mechanisms underlying AMH elevation in hyperoestrogenic states in males

    Get PDF
Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is secreted by Sertoli cells of the testes from early fetal life until puberty, when it is downregulated by androgens. In conditions like complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS), AMH downregulation does not occur and AMH increases at puberty, due in part to follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) effect. However, other conditions like Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS), characterised by low FSH, also have increased AMH. Because both CAIS and PJS may present as hyperoestrogenic states, we tested the hypothesis that oestradiol (E2) upregulates AMH expression in peripubertal Sertoli cells and explored the molecular mechanisms potentially involved. The results showed that E2 is capable of inducing an upregulation of endogenous AMH and of the AMH promoter activity in the prepubertal Sertoli cell line SMAT1, signalling through ERα binding to a specific ERE sequence present on the hAMH promoter. A modest action was also mediated through the membrane oestrogen receptor GPER. Additionally, the existence of ERα expression in Sertoli cells in patients with CAIS was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. The evidence presented here provides biological plausibility to the hypothesis that testicular AMH production increases in clinical conditions in response to elevated oestrogen levels.Fil: Valeri, Clara. Preformulation Studies of Novel Menthol Prodrugs with Antiparasitic Activity: Chemical Stability, In Silico, and In Vitro Permeability Assays

    Get PDF
Based on the demonstrated and reported trypanocidal, leishmanicidal, and antiplasmodial activities of two menthol prodrugs, it was decided to proceed with preformulation studies, which are of key relevance in the drug discovery process. The aim of this study is to examine the stability and permeability of two new menthol prodrugs with antiparasitic activity. To determine the stability of menthol and its prodrugs, the corresponding studies were carried out in buffered solutions at pH values of 1.2, 5.8, and 7.4 at 37 °C. In silico permeability studies were performed using the free PerMM software and then in vitro permeability studies were performed using a biomimetic artificial membrane (BAM). Permeability studies conducted in silico predicted that both menthol and its prodrugs would pass through biological membranes via flip-flop movement. This prediction was subsequently confirmed by in vitro BAM permeability studies, where it was observed that the menthol prodrugs (1c and 1g) exhibited the highest Papp (apparent permeability) value compared to the parent compound. The study reveals that menthol prodrugs exhibit stability at a pH of 5.8 and possess sufficient in vitro permeability values as preformulation parameters

Planeamiento estratégico para la región Huancavelica

    No full text
The strategic plan of Huancavelica region has been developed considering a desired future situation that has overcome the high poverty rates through the exploitation of its main productive activities, looking for the social welfare in the population as a maximum goal. For this, an external audit of the region has been developed to identify the key success factors that make it possible to be clear about external threats to take advantage of own resources and to face them, as well as the opportunities offered by the market summarized in the demand for products globally. In the same way, an internal audit was carried out exhaustively to identify those weaknesses specific to the region in order to improve them, as those strengths that will be the main resource to define the strategies and thus reach the desired future situation. Knowing the general panorama of the region, both internally and externally, the long-term objectives that consider the sustainable and intensive exploitation of the industries of trout fillet, alpaca fiber and Hass avocado were defined, which will improve the social welfare of the population through the generation of adequate jobs. For this it was necessary to formulate the strategies that allow achieving the proposed objectives. These external and internal strategies carefully analyzed and selected will be part of the short-term objectives, which will be evaluated through the Balanced Control Board. The approach of the strategies is based on the growing demand of the external market, for which market development and penetration strategies will be implemented; while to convert the weaknesses into strengths, joint adventure strategies will be applied, as well as internal strategies such as process management and reengineering. With all this we hope to improve the competitiveness of the region that is among the last in Peru so that it can continue its development and growth in a sustainable manner.Tesi
