Optimization of the carrier concentration in phase-separated half-Heusler compounds

    Get PDF
Inspired by the promising thermoelectric properties of phase-separated half-Heusler materials, we investigated the influence of electron doping in the n-type Ti_(0.3−x)Zr_(0.35)Hf_(0.35)NiSn compound. The addition of Nb to this compound led to a significant increase in its electrical conductivity, and shifted the maximum Seebeck coefficient to higher temperatures owing to the suppression of intrinsic carriers. This resulted in an enhancement of both the power factor α^2σ and figure of merit, zT. The applicability of an average effective mass model revealed the optimized electron properties for samples containing Nb. There is evidence in the literature that the average effective mass model is suitable for estimating the optimized carrier concentration of thermoelectric n-type half-Heusler compounds

OT Graduate Students’ Perceived Preparedness for Level II Fieldwork: Traditional, Nontraditional and Mixed Fieldwork I Experiences

    Get PDF
This study explored the perceived level of preparedness of occupational therapy (OT) graduate students for entering Level II fieldwork after completing nontraditional, traditional, and mixed Level I fieldwork experiences. This mixed-methods exploratory study included an online 22-question survey that was delivered to Occupational Therapy Doctoral (OTD) and Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) programs throughout the United States. Participants were selected through voluntary convenience response sampling. Students (N=145) self-reported their level of preparedness for Level II fieldwork experiences. The quantitative data collected in this study reflected a statistically significant difference between Level I fieldwork experience-related questions for the three groups, including traditional, nontraditional, and mixed traditional and nontraditional fieldwork experiences. More specifically, students that took traditional fieldwork experiences felt that traditional fieldwork positively contributed to their preparedness for Level II fieldwork compared to those who took nontraditional fieldwork or a mix of traditional and nontraditional fieldwork. The qualitative data, analyzed through thematic analysis, indicated that students felt a combination of nontraditional and traditional fieldwork provided the most significant benefit from Level I fieldwork experiences. Results suggest that most OT students preferred either a combination of nontraditional Level I fieldwork and traditional Level I fieldwork or solely traditional Level I fieldwork for increasing their perceived preparedness prior to starting Level II fieldwork. This study has implications for OTD and MOT fieldwork curriculum development and implications for addressing the needs of OT students to feel better prepared for Level II fieldwork

    Get PDF

Biocompatible superparamagnetic poly(thioether-ester) nanoparticles via miniemulsion technique

    Get PDF
Biocompatible polymeric nanoparticles were obtained via thiol-ene polymerization of a biobased monomer in miniemulsion. The α,ω-diene-diester monomer was synthesized through esterification reaction of a glycerol derivative, namely 1,3-propanediol, with 10-undecenoic acid, a long-chain diene carboxylic acid. The biobased poly(thioether-ester), PTEE, nanoparticles were submitted to cytotoxicity and hemolysis analyses. High cell viability and no significant changes in cell morphology were observed. Lastly, hemolysis assays revealed blood compatibility and therefore PTEE nanoparticles have been shown to be a potential alternative drug delivery vector for intravenous administration. The poly(thioether-ester) was also employed to encapsulate magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) by miniemulsification technique. Please click Additional Files below to see the full abstract

The bromatologic composition of 8 selected eggplant lines (L006, L007, L008, L012, L014, L015, L016, L019), was evaluated based on humidity, ashes, total protein, ethereal extract and crude fiber using the methods of the A.O.A.C. 930, 15/90, 942. 05/90, 955. 04/90, 920. 39/90 and 962. 09/90, respectively. The total carbohydrates were calculated by the difference between the 100% and all other components but fiber. Within ashes calcium, sodium, phosphor, iron, and potassium were quantified. Potassium showed the highest quantity with a mean of 206,21 mg, calcium and sodium also showed high proportion levels with means of 68, 62 and 58,22 mg, respectively. Iron and phosphorus showed low levels in all genotypes but in line L014 with values above 15 mg. The genotypes with higher nutritious values are L016, L007, L012, L014 y L016 which, together with their desirable characteristics are the ones with potential for commercial exploitation in the national market.
