Synonymy and Polysemy in Legal Terminology and Their Applications to Bilingual and Bijural Translation

The paper focuses on synonymy and polysemy in the language of law in English-speaking countries. The introductory part briefly outlines the process of legal translation and tackle the specificity of bijural translation. Then, traditional understanding of what a term is and its application to legal terminology is considered; three different levels of vocabulary used in legal texts are outlined and their relevance to bijural translation explained. Next, synonyms in the language of law are considered with respect to their intension and distribution, and examples are given to show that most expressions or phrases which are interchangeable synonyms in the general language should be treated carefully in legal translation. Finally, polysemes in legal terminology are discussed and examples given to illustrate problems potentially encountered by translators

PUŁAPKI JĘZYKA ANGIELSKIEGO JAKO DOCELOWEGO W PRZEKŁADZIE PRAWNICZYM

Translating legal texts into English requires that a translator should make a qualified decision with respect to a variety of legal English, or its modification, to be used as the target language. The analysis should be aimed at choosing the best possible “variety” of legal English at all “linguistic” levels – grammatical (morphology and syntax), semantic and conceptual (relevant terminological choice), textual (relevant text types/genres) and pragmatic (considering potential addressees). The decision relating to “which legal English” should be used may often be motivated by the type of target legal system (e.g. common law, continental law, sharia, etc.) and by an envisaged ultimate recipient of the translated text (whether the recipient has any legal background, previous experience in legal transactions conducted in English, etc.). The paper deals with the relevant aspects of such decision-making and provides examples of both useful options and confusing alternatives.Przekład tekstów prawniczych na język angielski wymaga podejmowania świadomych decyzji translatorskich dotyczących wyboru wariantu języka docelowego i jego ewentualnych modyfikacji. Analiza powinna mieć na celu dokonanie wyboru najlepszego z możliwych wariantów na wszelkich poziomach: gramatycznym (morfologia i składnia), semantycznym oraz konceptualnym (wybór właściwej terminologii), a także pragmatycznym (uwzględnienie potencjalnego odbiorcy tekstu). Wybór wariantu może być uzależniony od docelowego systemu prawnego (prawo kontynentalne, common law, shariat, itd.) i docelowego odbiorcy (jego znajomości prawa, doświadczenia w obrocie prawnym, itd.). Investment Life Insurance and the Methods of Its Optimal Petting for Clients of Company Partners For Life Planning, Corp.

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na problematiku investičního životního pojištění a její praktickou aplikaci na vybranou skupinu 50 klientů společnosti Partners For Life Planning, a.s. Předmětem práce je stanovení optimálního nastavení pojistných částek pro případ smrti, trvalých následků úrazu, závažných onemocnění a invalidity pro klienty v různých životních situacích. Obsahem práce je i analýza pojistných produktů pěti komerčních pojišťoven, jejich vzájemná komparace podle zvolených kritérií a diskuze výsledků. Poté následuje konfrontace dosažených výsledků analýzy s nastavením pojistných programů u 50 klientů poradenské společnosti.This thesis is engaged in questions of investment live insurance and its practical aplication for selected group of 50 clients of Partners For Life Planning, Corp. The scope of the thesis is the optimization of a sum insured setting by a death insurance, permanent accidental disability, serious illness and disability for people in various life situations. It includes insurance company offer in scope of investment life insurance, their comparision for engaged criteria and discussion of results. And than it confronts these results with a group of 50 life insured people.

Effects of hyaluronan on properties of eye drops

Modifikace očních kapek pomocí hyaluronanu vede ke zvýšení času zádrže na očním povrchu. V této práci byly dlouhodobě sledovány systému očních kapek Opthalmo-Septonex a Visine Classic s různými přídavky hyaluronanu z hlediska stability systému. Následně proběhlo zkoumání interakcí hyaluronanu s očními kapkami a s jejími složkami-benzalkoniem chloriem a tetryzolinem pomocí sledování velikostí částic a náboje molekul v čase. U vybraných systému proběhlo reologické testování a stanovení mukoadhezivního indexu pomocí mucinové metody.Modifying eye drops using hyaluronan leads to an increased retention time on the eye surface. Long-lasting observations of the stability of two different eye drops, Opthalmo-Septonex and Visine Classic, after the addition of hyaluronan with varying concentration are presented in this work. The interactions of hyaluronan with the eye drops, or their components benzalkonium chloride and tetryzoline, are investigated by monitoring particle sizes and the charge of the molecules. Additionally, rheological examinations of the samples are done and the mucoadhesion index is determined by using the mucine method.

Solving strategies for word problems that can be solved with equations

Cílem této diplomové práce je seznámit s problematikou řešení slovních úloh řešitelných rovnicemi, uvést a analyzovat různé způsoby jejich řešení. Diplomová práce se také zabývá porovnáním strategií řešení slovních úloh řešitelných rovnicemi volených žáky, které mají již daný typ rovnice probraný, a žáky, kteří ještě daný typ rovnice nemají zvládnutý. Úvodní část práce se věnuje slovním úlohám obecně. Je vymezen pojem slovní úloha, postup, způsob a strategie řešení slovních úloh. V dalším textu jsou charakterizovány základní typy rovnic. Ke každému druhu rovnice je vybrána jedna typická slovní úloha, u které je experimentálně zjištěno, jaké strategie řešení nejčastěji žáci volí. The signifikance of extrapituitary prolactin and innate immune reaction in severe immunopathological conditions.

Úvod: Komunikace mezi neuroendokrinním a imunitním systémem je mimo jiné zprostředkována hormony a cytokiny a to jak endokrinní, tak i parakrinní a autokrinní cestou. Jedním z těchto činitelů je i prolaktin, adenohypofyzární hormon, ale i imunitní cytokin. Sepse je systémová reakce na zánět, zprostředkovaná Th1 imunitní odpovědí, která je podporovaná i prolaktinem. Prvotní ochranu při sepsi zprostředkovává vrozená imunita. Toll- like receptory rozpoznávají molekuly, které jsou spojeny s patogeny a po tomto rozpoznání příslušného patogenu zahajují imunitní reakce s cílem ho zneškodnit a obnovit rovnováhu organismu. Předpokládá se, že v organismu těžce napadeném patogenem se zvyšuje genová exprese PRL, TLR2 a TLR4. Tyto hodnoty jsme sledovali u septických pacientů. Hodnotili jsme také vliv jednonukleotidového polymorfismu PRL -1149 G/T jednak na fyziologickou expresi PRL mRNA, a jednak na míru exprese v průběhu sepse. Materiál a metody: Pro tuto studii byly jako materiál použity vzorky krve 43 septických pacientů a 40 zdravých kontrol. Krev septických pacientů byla odebrána celkem třikrát s určitým časovým rozestupem, krev kontrol pouze jednou. Pro určení exprese mRNA PRL, TLR2 a TLR4 byla použita polymerázová řetězová reakce v reálném čase s fosfoglycerát-kinázou 1 jako endogenní kontrolou. Metodou...Introduction: Communication between neuroendocrinne and immune system is arranged by hormones and cytokines in endocrinne, paracrinne and autocrinne manner. One of the factors involved is also prolactin, a pituitary hormone and an immune cytokine. Sepsis is a system reaction to inflammation mediated by Th1 immune response, which is supported by prolactin as well. Primary protection against sepsis is mediated by innate immunity. Toll- like receptors distinguish molecules, which are connected with pathogens. Afterwards this identification of a specific pathogen toll-like receptors trigger immune reaction with the main goal of destroying this pathogen and also with the goal of renewing the balance of the organism. It is supposed that in the organism that is hardly attacked by a pathogen, the PRL, TLR2 and TLR4 gene expression is on the increase. We studied the levels of PRL, TLR2 and TLR4 mRNA production in circulating monocytes derived from septic patients. Simultaneously, the effect of PRL -1149 G/T SNP on physiological levels of PRL mRNA and its expression in the course of sepsis was evaluated. The Apocryphal Gospel of Bartholomew in the Slavonic Tradition

Apokryfní Bartolomějovo evangelium ve slovanské tradici (Martina Chromá) Abstrakt Tématem práce je slovanský překlad Bartolomějova evangelia (Otázek Bartolomějových), apokryfní památky sepsané původně v řečtině pravděpodobně ve třetím století. Do dnešní doby se text tohoto apokryfu dochoval ve dvou známých řeckých, dvou latinských a šesti slovanských rukopisech. Tyto slovanské rukopisy pocházejí ze 14.-18. století, přičemž čtyři z nich jsou ruského původu a dva srbského. Cílem práce je stanovení pravděpodobného místa a doby pořízení prvotního překladu památky do slovanštiny a nastínění cest, kterými se rukopisy ve slovanském prostředí dále šířily. Na základě podrobného textologického a lexikálního rozboru docházíme k závěru, že všechny slovanské rukopisy s textem památky vycházejí z jednoho společného archetypu, který byl s největší pravděpodobností pořízen v Bulharsku v průběhu 10. století. Dochované rukopisy dosvědčují, že původní slovanský překlad byl přenesen na Kyjevskou Rus, kde se rukopisy dále šířily a kde zároveň došlo k určitým úpravám textu památky, na základě kterých můžeme dochované rukopisy roztřídit do dvou redakcí či rukopisných linií. Součástí práce je také přehledná...The Apocryphal Gospel of Bartholomew in the Slavonic Tradition (Martina Chromá) Abstract The thesis deals with the Slavonic translation of the apocryphal Gospel of Bartholomew (Questions of Bartholomew), which is a literary monument written in Greek most likely in the 3rd century. The text of the monument has survived in two known Greek, two Latin and six Slavonic manuscripts. These Slavonic manuscripts are dated between the 14th - 18th centuries, with two of them pertaining to the Russian redaction of the Old Church Slavonic and the other two to the Serbian redaction. The objective of the thesis is to identify the most probable place and time assignment of the original Slavonic translation of the monument, and an outline of lines by which the manuscripts were spread in the Slavonic environment. By a detailed textological and lexical analysis we come to the conclusion that all the Slavonic manuscripts containing the text of the monument stemmed from one common archetype originated most likely in Bulgaria during the 10th century. The Slavonic translation was later moved from Bulgaria to Kievan Rusʼ, where the manuscripts were further spread and where the text of the monument was adjusted; this is how the manuscripts can be divided into two separate redactions. BRNO OBSERVATORY AND PLANETARIUM. IMPLEMENTATION OF CARCASS SUBSTRUCTURE.

Bakalářská práce se zabývá stavebně-technologickým řešením hrubé spodní stavby hvězdárny a planetária v Brně. Stavba je založena na základových pasech lemujících obvod suterénu a sloupech, které se ukotví do monolitických patek. Díky výskytu radonu je nutné provést protiradonovou izolaci. Hlavními kapitolami mé práce jsou technologické předpisy pro zemní práce, izolace a základy včetně provádění hřebíkové stěny. Na tyto kapitoly navazují kontrolní a zkušební plány, návrh strojní sestavy, časový plán a položkový rozpočet. V neposlední řadě je zde řešena i bezpečnost a ochrana zdraví při práci spolu s environmentálními požadavky na stavbu.This bachelor thesis deals with the structural and technological layout ofthe gross substructure of the Observatory and Planetarium in Brno. The construction is based on the footings and basementlining and the perimetercolumns that are anchored in the monolithic footings. For the occurence of radon, it isnecessary to carryout the radon insulation. The main chapters of my work deal with the technical regulations for the ground work, the insulation against the presence of radon. Further, the work describes the found ations of the building, including the implementation of tenail wall. These chapters are followed by the inspection and the test plans, the desing of the mechanical assemblies, the time schedule of the construction work and the proposition of the itemized budget. Finally, the issues of the health and safety at work are discussed, along with the environmental arrangement required for the planned construction.
