    Image Data Compensation to Prevent Display Artifacts on an OLED Display

    This publication describes techniques for image data compensation that prevent display artifacts on an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display when the refresh rate and the clock speed of the display are changed. The OLED display may be implemented in a mobile device that supports multiple refresh rates. To conserve power, the mobile device may alter the refresh rate and clock speed of the OLED display from a first refresh rate and clock speed to a second refresh rate and clock speed. Image data intended to be displayed on a particular pixel row of the OLED display may be compensated based on the first refresh rate, the second refresh rate, and the location of the particular pixel row within the OLED display to generate compensated image data. Using the techniques described herein, the compensated image data may be output for use in preventing display artifacts while the image data is displayed in a first frame after the refresh rate and clock speed are changed

    Effects and treatment methods of acupuncture and herbal medicine for premenstrual syndrome/premenstrual dysphoric disorder: systematic review

    BACKGROUND: During their reproductive years about 10% of women experience some kind of symptoms before menstruation (PMS) in a degree that affects their quality of life (QOL). Acupuncture and herbal medicine has been a recent favorable therapeutic approach. Thus we aimed to review the effects of acupuncture and herbal medicine in the past decade as a preceding research in order to further investigate the most effective Korean Medicine treatment for PMS/PMDD. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted using electronic databases on studies published between 2002 and 2012. Our review included randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) of acupuncture and herbal medicine for PMS/PMDD. Interventions include acupuncture or herbal medicine. Clinical information including statistical tests was extracted from the articles and summarized in tabular form or in the text. Study outcomes were presented as the rate of improvement (%) and/or end-of-treatment scores. RESULTS: The search yielded 19 studies. In screening the RCTs, 8 studies in acupuncture and 11 studies in herbal medicine that matched the criteria were identified. Different acupuncture techniques including traditional acupuncture, hand acupuncture and moxibustion, and traditional acupuncture technique with auricular points, have been selected for analysis. In herbal medicine, studies on Vitex Agnus castus, Hypericum perforatum, Xiao yao san, Elsholtzia splendens, Cirsium japonicum, and Gingko biloba L. were identified. Experimental groups with Acupuncture and herbal medicine treatment (all herbal medicine except Cirsium japonicum) had significantly improved results regarding PMS/PMDD. CONCLUSIONS: Limited evidence supports the efficacy of alternative medicinal interventions such as acupuncture and herbal medicine in controlling premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Acupuncture and herbal medicine treatments for premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder showed a 50% or better reduction of symptoms compared to the initial state. In both acupuncture and herbal medical interventions, there have been no serious adverse events reported, proving the safety of the interventions while most of the interventions provided over 50% relief of symptoms associated with PMS/PMDD. Stricter diagnostic criteria may have excluded many participants from some studies. Also, depending on the severity of symptoms, the rate of improvement in the outcomes of the studies may have greatly differed

    Concept Analysis of Female Sexual Subjectivity based on Walker and Avant's Method

    PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to clarify attributes, antecedents, and consequences of female sexual subjectivity. METHODS: Walker and Avant's concept analysis process was used to analyze 27 studies from the current literature that relates to female sexual subjectivity. A systematic literature review of women's study in sociology, psychology, theology, law, health science, and nursing was reviewed. RESULTS: The defining attributes of female sexual subjectivity were sexual self-awareness, sexual decision making, sexual desire, and good sexual communication with partner. The antecedents of female sexual subjectivity were social environment, sexual education, sexual experience, and interpersonal relationship. The consequences of female sexual subjectivity were safe sex, prevention of sexual victimization, and sexual satisfaction. CONCLUSION: Female sexual subjectivity is defined as sexual self-awareness, sexual decision making, sexual desire to seek sexual pleasure and safety, and effective communication with partner in terms of sexual behavior, sexual experience and sexual health. Based on these results, a scale measuring female sexual subjectivity is needed

    Real-Time Depth-Based Hand Detection and Tracking

    This paper illustrates the hand detection and tracking method that operates in real time on depth data. To detect a hand region, we propose the classifier that combines a boosting and a cascade structure. The classifier uses the features of depth-difference at the stage of detection as well as learning. The features of each candidate segment are to be computed by subtracting the averages of depth values of subblocks from the central depth value of the segment. The features are selectively employed according to their discriminating power when constructing the classifier. To predict a hand region in a successive frame, a seed point in the next frame is to be determined. Starting from the seed point, a region growing scheme is applied to obtain a hand region. To determine the central point of a hand, we propose the so-called Depth Adaptive Mean Shift algorithm. DAM-Shift is a variant of CAM-Shift (Bradski, 1998), where the size of the search disk varies according to the depth of a hand. We have evaluated the proposed hand detection and tracking algorithm by comparing it against the existing AdaBoost (Friedman et al., 2000) qualitatively and quantitatively. We have analyzed the tracking accuracy through performance tests in various situations

    Let α\alpha be a composition of nn and σ\sigma a permutation in Sℓ(α)\mathfrak{S}_{\ell(\alpha)}. This paper concerns the projective covers of Hn(0)H_n(0)-modules Vα\mathcal{V}_\alpha, XαX_\alpha and Sασ\mathbf{S}^\sigma_{\alpha}, which categorify the dual immaculate quasisymmetric function, the extended Schur function, and the quasisymmetric Schur function when σ\sigma is the identity, respectively. First, we show that the projective cover of Vα\mathcal{V}_\alpha is the projective indecomposable module Pα\mathbf{P}_\alpha due to Norton, and XαX_\alpha and the ϕ\phi-twist of the canonical submodule Sβ,Cσ\mathbf{S}^{\sigma}_{\beta,C} of Sβσ\mathbf{S}^\sigma_{\beta} for (β,σ)(\beta,\sigma)'s satisfying suitable conditions appear as Hn(0)H_n(0)-homomorphic images of Vα\mathcal{V}_\alpha. Second, we introduce a combinatorial model for the ϕ\phi-twist of Sασ\mathbf{S}^\sigma_{\alpha} and derive a series of surjections starting from Pα\mathbf{P}_\alpha to the ϕ\phi-twist of Sα,Cid\mathbf{S}^{\mathrm{id}}_{\alpha,C}. Finally, we construct the projective cover of every indecomposable direct summand Sα,Eσ\mathbf{S}^\sigma_{\alpha, E} of Sασ\mathbf{S}^\sigma_{\alpha}. As a byproduct, we give a characterization of triples (σ,α,E)(\sigma, \alpha, E) such that the projective cover of Sα,Eσ\mathbf{S}^\sigma_{\alpha, E} is indecomposable.Comment: 41 page

    Homological properties of 0-Hecke modules for dual immaculate quasisymmetric functions

    Let nn be a nonnegative integer. For each composition α\alpha of nn, Berg et al.\textit{et al.} introduced a cyclic indecomposable Hn(0)H_n(0)-module Vα\mathcal{V}_\alpha with a dual immaculate quasisymmetric function as the image of the quasisymmetric characteristic. In this paper, we study Vα\mathcal{V}_\alpha's from the homological viewpoint. To be precise, we construct a minimal projective presentation of Vα\mathcal{V}_\alpha and a minimal injective presentation of Vα\mathcal{V}_\alpha as well. Using them, we compute ExtHn(0)1(Vα,Fβ){\rm Ext}^1_{H_n(0)}(\mathcal{V}_\alpha, {\bf F}_\beta) and ExtHn(0)1(Fβ,Vα){\rm Ext}^1_{H_n(0)}( {\bf F}_\beta, \mathcal{V}_\alpha), where Fβ{\bf F}_\beta is the simple Hn(0)H_n(0)-module attached to a composition β\beta of nn.     Fabrication of a Multi-Walled Nanotube (MWNT) Ionic Liquid Electrode and Its Application for Sensing Phenolics in Red Wines

    A multi-walled nanotube (MWNT) ionic liquid was prepared by the immobilization of 1-butylimidazole bromide onto an epoxy group on a poly(glycidyl methacrylate)-grafted MWNT, which was synthesized by radiation-induced graft polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate onto MWNT in an aqueous solution. Subsequently, a MWNT ionic liquid electrode was fabricated by hand-casting MWNT ionic liquid, tyrosinase, and chitosan solution as a binder on indium tin oxide (ITO) glass. The sensing ranges of the MWNT ionic liquid electrode with immobilized tyrosinase was in the range of 0.01-0.08 mM in a phosphate buffer solution. The optimal conditions such as pH, temperature, and effects of different phenolic compounds were determined.
