Single-stage experimental evaluation of tandem-airfoil rotor and stator blading for compressors. Part 1: Analysis and design of stages A, B, and C

A conventional rotor and stator, two dual-airfoil tandem rotors, and one dual-airfoil tandem stator were designed. The two tandem rotors were each designed with different percentages of the overall lift produced by the front airfoil. Velocity diagrams and blade leading and trailing edge metal angles selected for the conventional rotor and stator blading were used in the design of the tandem blading. Rotor inlet hub/tip ratio was 0.8. Design values of rotor tip velocity and stage pressure ratio were 757 ft/sec and 1.30, respectively

Review of Comparison Studies Investigating Bilingualism and Bilingual Instruction for Students with Disabilities

    Get PDF
The purpose of this article is to provide a narrative review of comparison studies regarding the impacts of bilingualism and interventions including the home and second language for students with disabilities. Although research is limited, preliminary findings from existing studies illustrate that bilingualism does not negatively impact language or academic abilities for students with disabilities. Additionally, researchers suggest that instruction in and through the home and second language does not negatively impact language and academic abilities of students with disabilities assessed within these studies. We conclude with a discussion of steps forward, given that acceptance and promotion of bilingualism cannot only be effective for students with disabilities but also is a component of culturally and linguistically appropriate services for bilingual students with disabilities

This is the publisher's version, also available electronically from http://amaejournal.asu.edu/index.php/amae/article/view/126.It is critical that we examine impacts that recent immigration policies such as SB1070 are having on Arizona’s youngest Latino learners. The large number of Latinos under the age of five, and the impact that this upcoming generation of Latinos will have on all aspects of life in Arizona merits a closer look. In this qualitative study, we examined the perspectives of five adults working in an Arizona pediatric clinic (i.e., “Pediatrics Plus”). The themes of fear and community tension which arose throughout the interview data demonstrate that the health of our youngest learners as well as their access and ability to attend extended learning opportunities provided by community partners such as Pediatrics Plus, is being impacted by the wider anti-immigrant policies in Arizona. By taking a comprehensive approach using Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory to examine the health and enrichment opportunities of Arizona’s youngest learners and how recent policies can impact young learner’s development, we can work with other stakeholders to improve their opportunities for healthier minds and bodies, for academic success, and for a brighter future

Blaze FM: An Examination of Student Listening Habits and the Uses and Gratifications Approach of Increasing Student Listenership

2012 Thesis by Kevin A. CheathamThe viability of college radio has been an issue in need of close examination for some time now. With the advent of new forms of technology aimed directly at fulfilling the uses and gratifications of a music-filled world, even commercial radio has seen a decline in listenership. However, with college radio, the problem is more serious. Not usually deemed commercial or mainstream, these stations face even greater problems than a decline in its audience. This exploratory study begins by attaining general knowledge about a group of students pertaining to their listening habits and music preferences, while applying uses and gratifications theory and then attempts to gauge whether or not the station meets student preferences. The narrower focus of this study is to address the severity of the small audience size on the Valdosta State University campus by addressing whether or not there is sufficient awareness of the station itself and, if not, to formulate a plan to suggest what exactly can be done to facilitate change. Of the 251 total participants, 140 live on campus and are within the frequency of the station known as Blaze FM, thus becoming the target audience for this study. A discouraging majority of students were not aware that such a station existed on their own campus. Data was collected and then presented to focus groups in order to seek relevant themes in the material. Such themes can be utilized to aid the college radio station in maintaining and strengthening its audience.Carl Cates; William Faux; James Shrader; Alfred F. Fuciarelli

The authors look at communication over least restrictive environment (LEA) educational approaches which place students with disabilities in classroom settings like those of students without disabilities. Topics include educational leadership in IEPs, parent participation in IEPs in U.S. special education, and school district responsibilities for IEPs
