    Spherical Tuples of Hilbert Space Operators

    We introduce and study a class of operator tuples in complex Hilbert spaces, which we call spherical tuples. In particular, we characterize spherical multi-shifts, and more generally, multiplication tuples on RKHS. We further use these characterizations to describe various spectral parts including the Taylor spectrum. We also find a criterion for the Schatten SpS_p-class membership of cross-commutators of spherical mm-shifts. We show, in particular, that cross-commutators of non-compact spherical mm-shifts cannot belong to SpS_p for p≤mp \le m. We specialize our results to some well-studied classes of multi-shifts. We prove that the cross-commutators of a spherical joint mm-shift, which is a qq-isometry or a 22-expansion, belongs to SpS_p if and only if p>mp > m. We further give an example of a spherical jointly hyponormal 22-shift, for which the cross-commutators are compact but not in SpS_p for any p<∞p <\infty.Comment: a version close to final on

    Proximate analysis and mineral characterization of Barringtonia species

    The study about material contained in Barringtonia seeds were conducted at the first time using the standard procedure of AOAC. For present work, two species of Barringtonia were selected viz., B. acutangula and B. racemosa . The proximate composition and mineral constituents of Barringtonia seeds were evaluated. The B. acutangula seeds contained ash 4.24%, crude protein 9.23%, crude lipids 0.68%, crude fibre13.54% and carbohydrates 66.17%. While in seeds of B. racemosa, ash 4.02%, crude protein 12.09%, crude lipids 0.75%, crude fibre15.18% and carbohydrates: 64.67% were observed. Both the species have a high energy value on dry basis. Comparing the mineral content with recommended dietary allowances (RDA), the results indicated that seeds of B. acutangula fruits could be a good supplement for some nutrients such as calcium, fibre and carbohydrates, whereas the B. racemosa seeds could be a good supplement for some nutrients such as fibre, potassium, zinc and carbohydrates. The seeds of Barringtonia could be promoted as a carbohydrate supplement. Hence, this piece of work acclaims the potential of Barringtonia species indicating its proximate and mineral composition

    Influence of Waterlogging on Carbohydrate Metabolism in Ragi and Rice Roots

    Effect of different durations of waterlogging (4, 8 and 12 days) stress on carbohydrate status and activities of some related enzymes in ragi and rice roots was studied. In both ragi and rice roots there was decrease in starch and total sugar content in response to waterlogging conditions. Activity of α amylase was decrease in ragi roots while opposite trend was noticed in case of rice roots. The activity of pyruvate kinase was markedly increased due to 4, 8 and 12 days waterlogging in ragi roots while such increase was noticed in rice roots due to 12 days stress. Treatment of waterlogging caused enhancement in the activity of alkaline inorganic pyrophosphatase in the roots of both ragi and rice

    Morphometric studies in the genus Clerodendrum L.

    Six Clerodendrum L. species from Kolhapur district were morphometrically analyzed with the help of PCA, cluster analysis and CD. It was observed that the quantitative characters viz. petiole length, leaf length and leaf width have great significance in delimitation of all the species and corolla tube length, leaf width, gynoecium length and leaf length have great contribution in separation of the taxa.     MANGO STARCH: ITS USE AND FUTURE PROSPECTS

    Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is tropical fruit with high nutritional value. The aim of present work was to isolate the starch from black variety of mango and evaluate the physicochemical as well as functional properties. Starch is widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries for various applications. These industries depend on crops that are also the traditional sources of food resulting high demands with consequence economic implications. The results showed that the moisture content (14.93%) was higher while ash content (0.12%) was low. Amylose content was 35.06%. It was observed that the onset gelatinization temperature of the starch ranged from 50°C whereas, the conclusion gelatinization temperature was from 91-92.5°C. The starch show adequate properties and could be alternative source for the production of industrial products that may require starch.Â

    Extraction, purification and characterization of hyaluronic acid from Rooster comb

    Hyaluronic acid, is extract by different procedures from various sources like pig, rabbit, oxes and human are available, but these processes have certain imitations like low yield, and also it requires the killing of these animals which is against the experimental ethics. In the present study, we have carried out the extraction of hyaluronic acid from cock’s comb which was further analyzed with qualitative test, viscosity, UV absorption, endotoxin detection assay. Also, the protein contamination of extracted hyaluronic acid was determined by using SDS-PAGE of hyaluronic acid was studied for checking the protein contaminants and it was noted that there were no bands observed in the well loaded with extracted hyaluronic acid sample indicating that the final extract of hyaluronic acid is not contaminated with the protein. The extraction and purification of hyaluronic acid by using the method reported here give pure hyaluronic acid. The viscosity of extracted hyaluronic acid was found to be 2.55 poise which is economical and can be used for industrial production of hyaluronic acid having clinical application

    A prospective cross-sectional study to evaluate the economic burden of patients diagnosed with depression in a tertiary care hospital

    Background: The objective of the study was to evaluate the cost of care of depression in terms of direct and indirect costs.Methods: 150 patients diagnosed with depression attending psychiatry OPD at Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, Mumbai, fulfilling the inclusion criteria were explained about the study. Written informed consent were taken. Direct and Indirect costs were recorded in structured case record forms by interviewing the patients. Cost driving factors were identified.Results: Total annual direct cost were INR 6,378.16 which included drug costs, travel expenses, physician’s consultation, cost of investigations, hospitalisation cost while total Indirect costs were INR 16,860 which included days of work both of the patient and the caretaker.Conclusions: The indirect cost was almost thrice the direct costs. Hospitalisation cost and loss of working days due to depression was contributed the most to the direct costs and indirect costs respectively. Economic burden of depression is found out to be 16.30% of per capita gross domestic product in year 2018-19

    Effect of Ethrel® on Flowering, Sex-Expression and Yield in Cashew

    A field trial was conducted at Regional Fruit Research Station, Vengurle, Dist. Sindhudurg, (Maharashtra) to assess the efficacy of Ethrel® in relation to flowering behavior and yield enhancement in cashew on seven year old Cashew trees of Vengurle -7 variety during 2008-09. Three sprays of Ethrel® @ 100 ppm, 200 ppm and 400 ppm along with water spray were given before flushing, after flushing and during fruit-set. Control consisted of no. spray. Among treatments, Ethrel® @ 100 ppm significantly increased number of flowering panicles m-2 (12.0), number of perfect flowers per panicle (52.8), fruit-set m-2 (28.8), number of nuts per panicle (2.9) and yield tree-1 ( 1.51 kg tree-1) than control and water spray. Thus, lower concentration of Ethrel® had a beneficial effect on cashew

    Processing of Sorghum From Different Varieties and Hybrids for Semolina and Their Products

    The present study was undertaken with the objective to standardise procedures for preparation of semolina (rava) from sorghum, to identify the best genotype for preparation of semolina and to study the nutritional quality parameters of semolina. For processing of sorghum, ten varieties and five hybrids were used for preparation of semolina and their products. A process has been standardized for semolina preparation using ultra grinding mill from sorghum grain. The semolina yield ranged from 46.51% to 54.29%. Hybrid CSH-15R gave the highest yield of semolina (54.29%). Starch content in semolina ranged from 59.93% to 66.43%. The new genotypes Phule Vasudha, Phule Yashoda and M 35-1 showed higher levels of starch content as compared to the other genotypes. The Phule Vasudha and Selection-3 showed higher levels of total soluble sugars in grains, as well as in semolina than the other genotypes. Phule Maulee gave higher level of crude fibre content (3.12%). The amino acid profile of sorghum grain and semolina showed very minor differences in the content due to the processing of sorghum grains into various products like semolina. The new genotypes of rabi sorghum showed comparable results for the mineral with that of hybrids. The organoleptic properties of the sweet (shira), upama and idali prepared from semolina were judged on the basis of colour, texture and appearance, flavour, taste and overall acceptability of the products using semi-trained judges and 1 to 9 hedonic scales. All products prepared from semolina were like very much and gave highest rating of more than 8 hedonic scales. While considering the yield of semolina from sorghum grains as well as their nutritional composition and organoleptic properties of the niche products (shira, upama, idali) prepared from them, the varieties Phule Vasudha and Phule Yashoda were the best one as compared to the other varieties and hybrids and overall varieties were better than the hybrids
