    Kinetic Parameters Evaluation for Isoprene Mixed with Aluminum Oxide

    AbstractWe analyzed the basic hazard characteristics for isoprene in the manufacturing process by evaluating the runaway reaction, kinetic parameters and safety parameters in this study. Experiments were carried out by calculating the thermal decomposition reactions for isoprene and mixed with aluminum oxide in non-isothermal conditions by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Afterwards results indicated that isoprene had a conjugated double bond of unstable structure, and therefore it was prone to produce exothermic reaction during the process of polymerization. Aluminum oxide was applied to mix with isoprene, which could increase the heat release rate. Based on the results, safety information should be provided to government and relevant industries for prevention the accident occur in relevant plants

    Time-reversal symmetry breaking in the noncentrosymmetric Zr3Ir superconductor

    We report the discovery of Zr3Ir as a structurally different type of unconventional noncentrosymmetric superconductor (with Tc=2.3 K), here investigated mostly via muon-spin rotation/relaxation (μSR) techniques. Its superconductivity was characterized using magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and heat capacity measurements. The low-temperature superfluid density, determined via transverse-field μSR and electronic specific heat, suggests a fully gapped superconducting state. The spontaneous magnetic fields, revealed by zero-field μSR below Tc, indicate the breaking of time-reversal symmetry in Zr3Ir and hence the unconventional nature of its superconductivity. By using symmetry arguments and electronic-structure calculations we obtain a superconducting order parameter that is fully compatible with the experimental observations. Hence, our results clearly suggest that Zr3Ir represents a structurally different member of noncentrosymmetric superconductors with broken time-reversal symmetry

    Uniaxial Phase Transition in Si : Ab initio Calculations

    Based on a previously proposed thermodynamic analysis, we study the relative stabilities of five Si phases under uniaxial compression using ab initio methods. The five phases are diamond, beta-tin, sh, sc, and hcp structures. The possible phase-transition patterns were investigated by considering the phase transitions between any two chosen phases of the five phases. By analyzing the different conributions to the relative pahse stability, we identified the most important factors in reducing the phase-transition pressures at uniaxial compression. We also show that it is possible to have phase transitions occur only when the phases are under uniaxial compression, in spite of no phase transition when under hydrostatic commpression. Taking all five phases into consideration, the phase diagram at uniaxial compression was constructed for pressures under 20 GPa. The stable phases were found to be diamond, beta-tin and sh structures, i.e. the same as those when under hydrostatic condition. According to the phase diagram, direct phase transition from the diamond to the sh phase is possible if the applied uniaxial pressures, on increasing, satisfy the condition of Px>Pz. Simiilarly, the sh-to-beta-tin transition on increeasing pressures is also possible if the applied uniaxial pressures are varied from the condition of Px>Pz, on which the phase of sh is stable, to that of Px<Pz, on which the beta-tin is stable

    Trends in tools and approaches for modelling the energy transition

    Energy system models are crucial to plan energy transition pathways and understand their impacts. A vast range of energy system modelling tools is available, providing modelling practitioners, planners, and decision-makers with multiple alternatives to represent the energy system according to different technical and methodological considerations. To better understand this landscape, here we identify current trends in the field of energy system modelling. First, we survey previous review studies, identifying their distinct focus areas and review methodologies. Second, we gather information about 54 energy system modelling tools directly from model developers and users. Unlike previous questionnaire-based studies solely focusing on technical descriptions, we include application aspects of the modelling tools, such as perceived policy-relevance, user accessibility, and model linkages. We find that, to assess the possible applications and to build a common understanding of the capabilities of these modelling tools, it is necessary to engage in dialogue with developers and users. We identify three main trends of increasing modelling of cross-sectoral synergies, growing focus on open access, and improved temporal detail to deal with planning future scenarios with high levels of variable renewable energy sources. However, key challenges remain in terms of representing high resolution energy demand in all sectors, understanding how tools are coupled together, openness and accessibility, and the level of engagement between tool developers and policy/decision-makers

    Patients with refractory cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection following allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation are at high risk for CMV disease and non-relapse mortality

    AbstractPre-emptive therapy is an effective approach for cytomegalovirus (CMV) control; however, refractory CMV still occurs in a considerable group of recipients after allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Until now, hardly any data have been available about the clinical characteristics and risk factors of refractory CMV, or its potential harmful impact on the clinical outcome following allo-HSCT. We studied transplant factors affecting refractory CMV in the 100 days after allo-HSCT, and the impact of refractory CMV on the risk of CMV disease and non-relapse mortality (NRM). We retrospectively studied 488 consecutive patients with CMV infection after allo-HSCT. Patients with refractory CMV in the 100 days after allo-HSCT had a higher incidence of CMV disease and NRM than those without refractory CMV (11.9% vs. 0.8% and 17.1% vs. 8.3%, respectively). Multivariate analysis showed that refractory CMV infection in the 100 days after allo-HSCT was an independent risk factor for CMV disease (hazard ratio (HR) 10.539, 95% CI 2.467–45.015, p 0.001), and that refractory CMV infection within 60–100 days after allo-HSCT was an independent risk factor for NRM (HR 8.435, 95% CI 1.511–47.099, p 0.015). Clinical factors impacting on the risk of refractory CMV infection included receiving transplants from human leukocyte antigen-mismatched family donors (HR 2.012, 95% CI 1.603–2.546, p <0.001) and acute graft-versus-host disease (HR 1.905, 95% CI 1.352–2.686, p <0.001). We conclude that patients with refractory CMV infection during the early stage after allo-HSCT are at high risk for both CMV disease and NRM

    Prosemantic features for content-based image retrieval

The images are represented by a set of low-level features related to their structure and color distribution. Those descriptions are fed to a battery of image classifiers trained to evaluate the membership of the images with respect to a set of 14 overlapping classes. Prosemantic features are obtained by packing together the scores. To verify the effectiveness of the approach, we designed a target search experiment in which both low-level and prosemantic features are embedded into a content-based image retrieval system exploiting relevance feedback. The experiments show that the use of prosemantic features allows for a more successful and quick retrieval of the query images

    Observation of Two New N* Peaks in J/psi -> ppi−nˉp pi^- \bar n and pˉπ+n\bar p\pi^+n Decays

    The πN\pi N system in decays of J/ψ→NˉNπJ/\psi\to\bar NN\pi is limited to be isospin 1/2 by isospin conservation. This provides a big advantage in studying N∗→πNN^*\to \pi N compared with πN\pi N and γN\gamma N experiments which mix isospin 1/2 and 3/2 for the πN\pi N system. Using 58 million J/ψJ/\psi decays collected with the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, more than 100 thousand J/ψ→pπ−nˉ+c.c.J/\psi \to p \pi^- \bar n + c.c. events are obtained. Besides two well known N∗N^* peaks at 1500 MeV and 1670 MeV, there are two new, clear N∗N^* peaks in the pπp\pi invariant mass spectrum around 1360 MeV and 2030 MeV. They are the first direct observation of the N∗(1440)N^*(1440) peak and a long-sought "missing" N∗N^* peak above 2 GeV in the πN\pi N invariant mass spectrum. A simple Breit-Wigner fit gives the mass and width for the N∗(1440)N^*(1440) peak as 1358±6±161358\pm 6 \pm 16 MeV and 179±26±50179\pm 26\pm 50 MeV, and for the new N∗N^* peak above 2 GeV as 2068±3−40+152068\pm 3^{+15}_{-40} MeV and 165±14±40165\pm 14\pm 40 MeV, respectively

    Some properties of the newly observed X(1835) state at BES

    Recently the BES collaboration has announced observation of a resonant state in the π+π−η′\pi^+\pi^- \eta' spectrum in J/ψ→γπ+π−η′J/\psi \to \gamma \pi^+\pi^-\eta' decay. Fitting the data with a 0−+0^{-+} state, the mass is determined to be 1833.7 MeV with 7.7σ7.7\sigma statistic significance. This state is consistent with the one extracted from previously reported ppˉp \bar p threshold enhancement data in J/ψ→γppˉJ/\psi \to \gamma p \bar p. We study the properties of this state using QCD anomaly and QCD sum rules assuming X(1835) to be a pseudoscalar and show that it is consistent with data. We find that this state has a sizeable matrix element leading to branching ratios of (2.61∼7.37)×10−3(2.61\sim 7.37)\times 10^{-3} and (2.21∼10.61)×10−2(2.21\sim 10.61)\times 10^{-2} for J/ψ→γGpJ/\psi \to \gamma G_p and for Gp→π+π−η′G_p \to \pi^+\pi^- \eta', respectively. Combining the calculated branching ratio of J/ψ→γGpJ/\psi \to \gamma G_p and data on threshold enhancement in J/ψ→γppˉJ/\psi \to \gamma p \bar p, we determine the coupling for Gp−p−pˉG_p- p-\bar p interaction. We finally study branching ratios of other J/ψ→γ+threemesonsJ/\psi \to \gamma + {three mesons} decay modes. We find that J/ψ→γGp→γ(π+π−η,KKπ0)J/\psi \to \gamma G_p \to \gamma (\pi^+\pi^- \eta, K K \pi^0) can provide useful tests for the mechanism proposed.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures.     Using \gamma \gamma J/\psi, J/\psi \ra e^+ e^- and μ+μ−\mu^+ \mu^- events from a sample of 14.0×10614.0\times 10^6 \psip decays collected with the BESII detector, the branching fractions for \psip\ra \pi^0\J, \eta\J, and \psi(2S)\ar\gamma\chi_{c1},\gamma\chi_{c2}\ar\gamma\gamma\jpsi are measured to be B(\psip\ra \pi^0\J) = (1.43\pm0.14\pm0.13)\times 10^{-3}, B(\psip\ra \eta\J) = (2.98\pm0.09\pm0.23)%, B(\psi(2S)\ar\gamma\chi_{c1}\ar\gamma\gamma\jpsi) = (2.81\pm0.05\pm 0.23)%, and B(\psi(2S)\ar\gamma\chi_{c2}\ar\gamma\gamma\jpsi) = (1.62\pm0.04\pm 0.12)%.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures. submitted to Phys.
